I know the vote was supposed to be the week after the flooding, but of course all the flooding damage and stuff put the vote off to the side.
The vote was (and still is) scheduled for July 22nd.

Members of Council and Priorities and Finance Committee were alluding to it yesterday. A proposal is being drafted up right now.

Oh, I thought the vote was earlier. Good to know it's still on track?

Proposal for what? Another option? Ie: flood relief?

Poutine would be good, but in the winter ... no one wants cheese and gravy when it's hot out

That's kind of simplistic though... as mentioned, the $52M is an annual thing, and furthermore the city may have access to other funds for infrastructure repair.

Nenshi just announced the blue cart recycling program will be suspended until further notice. I could have missed it, but why has it been suspended? Was the facility damaged? Manpower issue?

My bin is full and the blue carts have spoiled me to not want to drag my recycling to community recycling bins. Are they still being picked up?

They are hoping to resume blue cart pickup next week.

Trucks/staff are being used to remove flood debris.

Please do drag your recyclables to the community depot. Stop being so damn lazy!

I thought that as well but this tweet from the City of Calgary doesn't sound so good.

This can't be true? All recycling is actually recycled, right?
Some of the stuff is just currently stored. The market fall of 2008 put a dent into the market for some of the stuff.

Styrofoam is recyclable, but the city has never accepted it in the blue bins, as there is even less of a market for that.

The city does try to find uses for some of the materials. For example, they are using broken glass as aggregate in asphalt paving.

These aren't problems that are exclusive to Calgary. This is also why reducing and reusing are more important than recycling.

If they are going to discontinue it, they better damn well remove the fee I pay on my City Services bill each month, where I pay for this service.

Jesus Christ Penny. It's $8 a month.

Since they've put concrete jersey barriers to block off Heritage Drive under Glenmore, does this mean more intensive repairs will finally happen to Heritage, or is it just for all those trucks dumping gravel at the park site right now? I was surprised at how much damage was done to the parking area, but I can't imagine that amount of effort closing off the road would be just for the park.

Come on, you know silly hall is just tacking that $8 onto their $52M that they're planning on spending on another bridge.
Its not like the city will have massive costs incurred as a result of the flood or anything, nor will we end up paying for those costs at the end of the day anyways.

Gimmie my $8!

And it will likely be only 2 maybe 3 weeks. So $4 or $6 worth. Consider it a small donation to the flood relief effort, since the trucks are being used to pick up flood garbage.

No ETA yet, but Transportation is working on their plan to restore this and the other bridges that were wiped out. They will be straight forward in design like the old bridges were, but to more modern code.

I was also surprised that the Heritage-Glenmore underpass was still closed today as they have been working on it since at least Friday, but today I got a closer look and it appears that some of the pavement is broken just before the Burnco exit. Hard to tell as they were still clearing the silt out of the area. At least the car that was up on the fence posts was finally gone today.
