I'd bet $5 that the Flames had a jersey with Lindholm's name stitched on it.

If this kid is really a RW I feel a lot better about the pick. He's definitely going down the right side a lot in his highlights

No doubt. I asked in the other thread whether or not we'd have still taken Monahan if we had the 5th overall pick instead. Meaningless to spout off about now, but interesting.
It's tough to tell if the crack in Feaster's voice at the end of "Monahan" when he's up at the podium is a crack of joy or a crack of profound sadness.

Trading down up and down has to be part of your calculations. If you have a guy ranked well above his consensus spot, your best bet isn't a big reach, but a trade down.
Poirier wasn't the only reach in the draft, nor was he a massive reach, but he's the one I'm talking about because I happen to be a Flames fan.
Heck, if Shinkaruk wasn't on the board I probably wouldn't have minded the pick at all. But Shinkaruk is in a different class of statiscal comparables than Poirier, and that's why it's a big deal.
|
Okay yeah, McKenzie's list is a rough idea of where guys will go. He takes info from most of the teams (or all) and their scouts and comes up with a best possibile list. Still, it doesn't matter.
If Montreal had Poirier as high as the Flames did then it doesn't matter if Florida, Tampa, etc didn't, Montreal was up soon and the Flames might didn't want to risk it by moving down.
The guy you want is available... take him for eff sakes.
Glad they did.

Wanted Shinkaruk at the time, and was pissed when it wasnt him.
But I remember also wanting the last guy who was a sure top 5 pick heading into the season, then a sure top 15 heading into the draft, who then fell into the 20s during the draft... Angelo Esposito.
Will wait to see how it turns out, but the video on this kid is promising. Explosive speed and good hands.

They probably had jerseys with about 15 players names. They like to present players with personalized jerseys as a special touch. If they don't use them they could always rip the namebar off and put Cammalleri's name on and use them for something else (barring trade I suppose).

A poster had joked whether they would have taken Poirier at #6 if Monahan was already gone. I was implying that Lindholm would have been the obvious pick and I'm sure they had a sweater ready for him.

I like this pick a lot. I like the fact he is gritty, fast and plays with an edge. Also that he is RW

Hehe, they just have the name banners created and they pin them on a blank jersey... They don't have a hundred+ jerseys made up

Each of the three guys picked in the first round by the Flames were given jerseys with their names stitched on.
Now, of course, they probably had at least another 10 jerseys with other guys' names, but it's a nice touch, and you could tell it was something that Jankowski took a lot of pride in last year. It's usually something you only see with the top-5 guys.

I get being a fan of a certain team, but tons of players have been picked by teams they never cheered for growing up.
What a smug ######bag. I'm glad he fell, and I'm glad the Flames didn't take him.

He's been an arrogant dbag since he was a kid so I'm not shocked he's still acting like one
