I was wondering why he reminded me so much of somebody, and then...

This guy looks like a slightly smaller/faster Nichushkin from his highlight reel.

The more I read and see him, the more Poirier starts to grow on me. Sounds like he could be a steal. We'll see in a couple of years.

I'll trust the people who do this for a living over a bunch of angry people on Twitter.

Because he had Poirier ranked in the top-10. They were going by their list. Klimchuk was 13th on their list.

Driving back to Edmonton and was able to catch part of the 960 broadcast. They were so excited with each pick Shinkarek wasnt selected. The one guy was going to say his name at 21, and the other says that if he does jinx it, "i will choke slam you". Then when they go with Poirier, you could tell they were so ticked off.

Flipped over to the Oilers station and they were laughing about th pick. "flames got the second round pick they desperately wanted" was a tweet they read. So funny ha ha ha they thought.

Then 960 interviews Poirier. He interviewed in Calgary for 2 days and knows The coach and Gm now,but didnt even watch the team. He knows nothing about the organization.

If feaster had him 10th, then he'd better release that list.

Looks like Matthew Lombardi but with better hands. Very hopeful that he is able to live up to his potential!

So what's your point here?

That radio guys from Shinkaruk's home town and an Oiler fan know more than the Flames scouts?

His speed reminds me of watching Duchene rip apart D. Excellent top speed and explosive first step.

Oh didn't realize the crack squad on the Calgary and Edmonton radio station didn't like the pick. Those guys always know their ####, we should burn Feaster at the stake

The more I read about Poirier, the more I like this pick. WTG Feaster and Co. A great first round draft IMO.

I don't know anything about Poirier, and little about Shinkaruk, but I do remember Calgary trading down, then having Jamie Lundmark slide to the spot where Calgary would have picked and everyone freaking out becaused they'd missed out on a can't miss #1 centre.

Now the guy Calgary did take with their first pick, Saprykin, didn't pan out either, but it will always stand as the prime example of why people need to really chill out on draft day.

1) ive never heard a media person threaten to choke slam his co host at a draft

2) when teams ignore the obvious selection, they are open to criticism.

3) other ranking schemes had him way, way down the list

That enough for you smart ass?

Interesting pick, but not as off the board as some think. A couple of draft guides had him ranked in the late first round.

He's also one of the youngest players in this draft, Born 2-3 weeks later and he would have been in next years draft class.

Detroit could have taken Hunter as well, and didn't with their 20th pick. Like I said before earlier in this thread, the fact that they didn't is very telling.

Who cares, we are talking about a late first round pick, it doesn't matter where other ranking schemes had him at this point, because margin for error and variance of opinions is so high. And that's the point, at that point in the draft its not even close to obvious what the picks should be, people need to stop crying about #### they know nothing about. 90% of this board (myself included) isn't remotely qualified to know if this pick is good, so lets just see how the picks pan out then judge.
