if you're on the fence about going to work, safe to say you should just not go. How important is your job that you need to get to it when the city is flooded? Unless you're a cop or firefighter of course.

What are they going to do, fire you? That would be the height of ridiculous.

Not silly. I get it. I just look at the water levels and the loss of the riverbanks and the roads and the ground and I don't think you can get that kind of info for a couple of days yet, until they see what they're able to build temporarily.

Should be fine if the Three Sisters Parkway is good to go.

If Not, Highway 40 to the Smith Dorian Trail would be a good bet.

Regarding Canmore access at this moment: It's a complete no go. Hwy 1 and 1A have both suffered major damage and are closed. The detour through Eagle Terrace is not possible either as anything near Cougar Creek is fubared. We think our place is ok still, but there is absolutely no way to get out there right now.

Fairmont? Am I thinking of the right area, just east of acadia? How could that be under water?

So the detour would only be around Canmore? How long of a detour would it be and does anyone have an idea of a route?
I'm sure two weeks from now there will be some way to get to Lake Louise.

Highway 1A and Highway 1 have been washed out out partially or completely. Highway 93 has been covered in a mudslide.

What you COULD do, since the mudslide on highway 93 is likely to be resolved much sooner, is this:

ALTERNATE ROUTE

Unfortunately it is 490 km instead of 187.

You should check out if one of dammage79's suggestions will work too.

Just realized the 1A might not take you past that. I'm not 100% sure where the damage is.
1A is closed/washed out in a few places, from earlier reports. AEA just said they're evacuating Morley and that area so that's getting closer to Cochrane now.
