This is in Canmore, this looks like it could be fixed once the creek goes down but there is another section of which I've seen video that will take far more than 2 weeks to fix. The highway is decimated.

Deerfoot is dangerous enough. We don't need several cars parked on the side of Deerfoot, and some close to the merging lane off Memorial.

Stay out of downtown like the police are telling you too. It is just that simple!

Lethbridge police are actually ticketing people who get too close to our river. Good on 'em, as it's flowing way more water than the Bow and Elbow.

I expect you'll be able to get there, but it might be a LONG detour.

That is Canmore. I'm no civil engineer or anything but I have my doubts the trans canada will be open by then. But good news. there are ways around that part of the highway. Theres a turn off before there to go into eagle terrace and a road going into the south side of Canmore and you can proabably get west of Canmore that way. There is a bridge crossing the river again to get to downtown but it is upstream from the damaged area and should be okay.
EDIT: beyond that you might be able to take highway forty down to the spray lakes road and travel to canmore that way as well if there more damage further east of Canmore.

I'd look into over the next few days. I'm sure something will be done over the next 2 weeks to open up a route, but who knows what kind of damage we'll see tomorrow.

That picture is Canmore.
The biggest issue at the moment is that it is expected to continue to rain heavily in Canmore and Banff until Friday night.
I am unsure how long the highway will be closed. There is quite a bit of damage.
I wish you the best of luck!

Why? Many places have to operate 24/7 and unless the building itself is flooding, there will be people working.
Oh and all the people that live downtown.

Little late to reply, but Sunalta is not expected to be evacuated. Not on the flood plain. Just drove into Sunalta and cars are still on Bow Trail .

Take a look at driving down the 1A. I don't think it got hit but unsure. Either way the #1 will be high prioity to re-open I would think. In Sask a few years back they had detours up pretty quick.
- - - edit - - -
Just realized the 1A might not take you past that. I'm not 100% sure where the damage is.

Oy...thanks everyone. My wife-to-be is losing her mind! We put a lot of money into this wedding so far and I doubt we can get it back if we have to reschedule.
So the detour would only be around Canmore? How long of a detour would it be and does anyone have an idea of a route?

You want to talk about fishing, make a thread about fishing. You want to talk about your lake, make a thread about that.
It's an off topic forum, but there are several threads in it that stay on their thread topic.
I don't live in Calgary, but I'm not going to come into this thread where people are losing things they can't replace and complain about something unrelated that makes me come across as an uncaring jerk.
Maybe I should post that the company golf tournament will be played on a wet course and there will be lots of mosquito and complain about how rough that will be?
Very thankful there is no river that runs through Olds, and very aware of the damage water does because of the people we know just west of here in Sundre. I'm genuinely sorry for anyone who has to deal with water damage.
We had minor water issues in our house the last round of 100+ MM of rain and I know and appreciate how difficult it can be to deal with even losing minor things. I can't imagine it on a much larger scale. Getting paid out or not on claims, the stress waiting to have things dealt with sucks.

Mike Commodore should never complain about Calgary in his life. Only reason he ever had a chance to be overpaid in the NHL.
He should send his cheques to Darryl Sutter.

if it's in two weeks I bet you'd be okay, that's awhile for things to dry up.

They aren't telling people not to go downtown but they are requesting they don't....big difference.
Can't arrest people for that...and police manpower will be stretched to the max as is with patroling all the closed areas.
