Because Calgary's drafting record has been so much better? He had terrible scouting in Tampa (his fault) and he has terrible scouting in Calgary (again his fault, since he's the one in charge and everything). How is our drafting supposed to magically improve with a bad GM listening to bad scouts?

Until one of those players actually plays a few games for the Flames and can make an impact, I don't care what is said about them. The reason I focused only on his Tampa years is because that is known, while his Calgary record isn't. And what is known about him gives me zero confidence in his ability to turn this franchise around

Our scouting has been better than average since Feaster took over...

I don't want to see Flames fans ever booing our team off the ice. You can boo the ref, other team but no our own team

How do we have terrible scouting in Calgary? There were reports that Darryl ran a tight ship with the scouting department and his say was the last word on who we were picking but with Feaster it seems Todd Button has done a decent job drafting different types of players who are successful in their leagues.

Theres no way he can screw up the 1st overall pick this year, its the rest of the picks where he has to bear down and make a name for himself.
This 2013 NHL entry draft will be the monumental draft in Flames history. This should set our franchise up going forward for the next 10-15 years, not set it back.

This is based on all their stellar performances in the NHL?
There are ton of guys who look good pre-NHL that don't turn out and every team has a bunch of guys doing well in their leagues, that is why they were drafted because they are the best players of their age group/league.
It is way too early to say how the drafting has been with a grand total of 10 games being played by those picks and nobody close to a sure thing of even making the league.

I don't want to see Calgary lose night in and night out. I don't want to see Calgary get a top 3 draft pick as a result of a bad season, but I don't want to see Calgary mortgage their future in futile attempts to make the playoffs. I accept what is happening, but what makes it really hard is to see some of the key players just not care. Yes, your leader and friend, Jarome Iginla was traded away as well as the top defenseman. Yes, the team is not going to make the playoffs, and going in a different direction. Deal with it. Stop sulking and play hard.

So you don't want to wait and see how the Calgary draftees pan out before judging him on what he did 5-6 years ago with a different scouting staff? His pick from 2 years ago is already being considered the next franchise player in Sven Bartschi and while he hasn't been tearing up the league everyone around knows he has the potential to be a first line player in the league.

Feasters draft record with Flames soo far. Lots of potential, I agree that none have actually panned out yet. But it sure seems like he's going in the right direction and making good picks.
|
There is a lot of potential with the picks, but can we judge them right now? I don't think its fair, to say he's done good or bad so far.

Agreed. But you can't call it "terrible" either without seeing any results within 2 years of Feaster's first draft.

I agree that the jury is still out, but I think most of those guys (especially from the 2011 draft) would have been drafted much earlier if they re-did the drafts today. Based on that, I'd say that his draft record in Calgary is looking promising.

This is a real question?
We've had the same head scout for the last 12 years. Todd Button has survived 4 GMs.
Show me one organization who has had a worse track record than us when it comes to the draft. Sadly, the only organization that may rival us in overall futility is Tampa Bay... well, you know the story.
I get that the last two drafts look fairly pretty, but prospects always look great 2 years out. Last year we were talking about how we had a 5th round steal in Ferland. The year before, it was the surprising Patrick Holland. Matt Keetley and Kevin Lalande were the tandem of the future. Or Adam Cracknall, who was 6'4 and had a great shot.

The head scout has remained, but we have done a overhaul of our scouts as well.
I agree Todd has a pretty bad track record, but he was also hindered by Darryl Sutter and his insistence on certain things.

I would say the jury is out with it most likely turning out average when 5 years or so has passed.

Yes, this is exactly what happened as a kid growing up in the late 90's and pre 2004. It seemed like everyone was a Colorado or Detroit fan and it drove me crazy. Of course after the run everybody was back on the Flames wagon, let's hope we don't create a generation of Chicago and pitt fans with this run of mediocrity this teams on.

I don't want to see any more ex-Flames brought back via trade or free agent signings. Let's move forward.
