I think the Flames lost 10-2 at home to the Oilers at some point in the last 13 or so years.

And I think the Flames beat the Oilers in their rink roughly 9-2 in the same time frame as well.

There's losing and then there's losing like last night.

Last night was probably one of the darkest days in franchise history. No way should your biggest rival walk into your barn and completely dismantle you like the Oilers did last night. 4-3, 3-1, fine but 8 to freakin 2!?!? are you kidding me!?! Couple that with Oilers fan coming out of their holes in waves and not providing the fans with anything to cheer about for a push back is a sad excuse.

I've come to accept the fact that the Flames aren't very good but you know what, either are the Oilers and last night the Flames made them look like an all star team against the timbits(no disrespect to the timbits).

If you are going to lose fine I get it but have some professionalism and at least go out and try and earn your money, if you aren't then give some of the young guys a shot and gtf off this team. Post-apex, money wasting, pieces of garbage your NHL careers are a privledge not a right.

I was at the Dome last night and was also stunned by the number of Oiler jerseys in the crowd. I said to my son that this was the type of game where I really have to question why I spent so much on tickets, parking and food, for a night out with my kid, only to have left feeling ripped-off and more importantly, slightly indifferent. Not sure where all those jerseys were during their own dark times, which only demonstrates that they have as many bandwagon jumpers as anyone else.

The difference between these two franchises now is that the Oiler sell hope, wherein the Flames management and players have provided nothing whatsoever to provide this fanbase with any. I may be wrong and hopefully so, but names like Reto Berra aren't cutting it right now. It's just so very disappointing. I feel like I've been had.

We have already brought in the best coach outside of the NHL, the two best goalies outside the NHL, and the best center forward outside the NHL... can the best defenseman outside the NHL be far behind?! Another thing to add to the list of things I don't want to see is the addition of any more of this "best outside of the NHL" business. In reality it means "not good enough for the NHL".

At least we know it can never get as bad as the 97-03 Flames years (..right?). As long as we draft well (and that's a big if), this team can rise again, and can already compete financially with any other team. Back then I honestly didn't know if we'd make the playoffs ever again. Hell I didn't know if Calgary would even have a TEAM in a few more years. Nothing in the next few years can be as bleak as those days, we've been through worse.

In those days, when Portland, Oregon was flirting hard with the Flames, the Calgary Sun was covering it and had a few page spread of Portland's attractive proposal, and had pics of their then new Rose Arena. I was sick to my stomach looking at it, it was so much nicer than the Dome. It was like seeing your ex happy with a guy who's clearly an upgrade from you. Just an awful time to be a Flames fan back then.

Did any of that make anyone feel slightly better? Not at all? Ok then..

I think we can all handle losing. It's the lack of effort part that RGMG. 8-2 at home, is inexcusable. Clearly no effort.

Hartley not playing youngsters, and letting floating invisible vets like Cammalari and Tanguay lead the time in icetime is inexcusable. Especially Tanguay. FFS, your a first line forward who is paid to make a difference. No shots on goal, no physicality. Head down everytime, and leisurely skating around the rink. I'm sick of seeing that night after night. I don't give a crap about how many points he has put up, or that he leads the team in them. Start playing like you care.

l can hangle losing, but FFS go down swinging! This offseason can't come fast enough. I can't wait until the playoffs so that I can actually have something to cheer for (Iggy).

This is why I have zero faith for a rebuild with Feaster at the helm. Just look at his draft record while in Tampa (2002-2007):

True, but when the GM comes out and says that he tried to trade everyone but 4 guys, how are you going to feel? You need to be a professional, I get it, but they can be forgiven for a game like that on a day when the GM says that.

They need to play for pride the rest of the way.

A quick rebuild is attainable. There are many teams that are going to have cap trouble next year, and for once it won't be us. Players will be available at $0.50 - $0.75 on the dollar in trades. Have a good draft, scoop up some players on value trades and things may not look so bad.

As a Season Ticket Holder I was embarassed by the game, but more embarassed by the number of ticket holders who gave their tickets to the Oil Nation. It was like a new theme night at the Dome - "Trailer Park Night" as all the sweat pant wearing, losers came out in their Oil Jerseys. Don't know if it is just me, but I don't ever recall Flames fans acting as smugly in the Oilers' down years. Yeah, they beat us badly and we sucked, but Edmonton hasn't done anything in years either. 3 consecutive 1st overall picks should give you great players, but get real your team still has lots of work to do!
As bad as we are, I look at our prospects on defence and goal think we are way further ahead in that department. A few quality forwards in the next few drafts and this team will be much better.
To all other STH's - show some pride, don't let the Oiler Trailer Park invade the Dome and no matter what, support your team...

I don't want to see the Flames drafting small skilled forwards. I want large bodies, I want them to be a grumpy team again. Grumpy teams care and even when they lose a stinker they get chippy and want to take your head off.
I'm hoping this rebuilds both the Flames and the battle-of-Alberta and the hatred. Because mine has sparked again with the Oilers and their fans that seem to forget the roots of their team are black and rotten from being the joke of the league.

Hmm, I didn't realize he fired all the Calgary scouts and support staff and hired all the guys he had in Tampa when he became GM here. Learn something new every day.

His draft record doesn't shine I admit but in Calgary he is surrounded by good hockey people like Weisbrod (Stanley Cup with Boston) and Goulet (2 Cups with Colorado) who help him make decisions on trades and draft.

With his picks in Calgary we have players who play huge roles with their respective teams aka Gaudreau, Gillies, Brossoit, Wotherspoon, Sieloff and are getting recognized by hockey writers and media.
