Agree, and interesting idea.
But... didn't the Sedins strongly imply they'd prefer to play on the same team and not be split up? And most people felt they'd be much better together than separately? Thusly, their value as separate entities dropped a little bit?
Dunno if that applies to Drouin and MacKinnon, who seem like they'd be able to adapt alongside other skilled players like anybody else.

I am so happy that I will never have to watch Jay Bouwmeester play a hockey game wearing a Flames jersey ever again. Get the f off of my team.
St. Louis is not going to make the playoffs this year. The curse will continue.
See you later Jay, please let the door hit you hard on the way out.

We only know that he was Blues property and they were willing to trade him. We don't know how he was valued within the organization.

I am just glad that 99% of you dont even come close to being qualified as GM of an NHL team.
"Trade (insert any Flames player name here) for a bag of pucks, he's useless". Then when it happens, no one is satisfied with it. Its unbelievable.

Nothing wrong with that.

I'm always amused by fans who pretend to be experts. I am totally ignorant of this goalie we just got so I'll just shut up about it. Wish the majority of crazies posting on a day like this (and draft day) would take that approach.

I would've preferred Teravainen, and don't understand why you trade down when a guy like that is still on the board (although Jankowski could very well make me eat these words). But mostly, I just have a bad taste in my mouth after both the Iggy and now the Jay trades and really question what they'll end up doing at the draft.

Nobody who has commented on these players negatively knows anything about them. Same with Hanowski and Agostino.

yup, I have 100% confidence in the ability of Flames management to identify diamonds in the rough, I mean just look at their track record in this regard:

Not that I hate this deal, but it probably could have been better.

I don't disagree - I wonder why they felt they had to trade him now. Possibilities
- They want the cap space
- They worry teams in the offseason aren't as interested
- They worry his play regresses again next year.

Exactly! Also with the cap going down there are only going to be a handful of teams under the cap this summer that can take on players with overpriced contracts. I suspect we will be making deals for players that are overpriced and we will be getting more picks with those players. As well with these 1st round picks we will also be able to get really good players with those picks, again teams will not be able to keep young players ready for a raise that put their salary structure out of whack. I think all these moves will pay more dividends in the offseason. I think there is going to be a lot of craziness in the summer with teams desperate to get under the salary cap. Its about asset management and cap management going into the summer.

Sure is a lot of complaining about the fact we just traded an underperforming $6million per year defenseman for a First and some prospects not to mention it frees up LOTS of cap space.

It's a first this year or next. That's fine.

This thread is oozing idiocy right now. The team is finally moving out the core group of players that weren't winning for 2 first round picks and counting. Jay Bo wasnt going to demand high end prospects and a first rounder. He just wasnt. Get over the over valuation you had for these players.
How can this be ANYTHING but positive?

First round picks look damn good, but we still have to rely on this group that's trading to do the drafting. Balderdash.

Feaster on Sportsnet:
-talked to Bouwmeester same time as Iggy
-given "bit broader" list of teams
-Bouwmeester's salary limited field
-multiple teams said can't make it work for next year
-felt time was now (deals not going to get better)
-scouts say Ramo and Berra best two goalies outside NHL and now we have both
-no update on Kipper, no info until deals announced
-stockpiling assets
-don't want to be where we've been, missing the playoffs
-not fan of "re-build" but direction has changed
-uncertainty over goaltending situation for next year because of $1.5 cap next year
-Brodie, Giordano mentioned as key players going forward
-cap space is asset going into next season
