By the way, the Pens were said to have offered more before they pulled the trigger for Morrow but Feaster told them it wasn't enough. Iginla all along said his first choice was the Pens so once they stepped up his decision was really simple.
Sounds very propable, and pretty much confirms what I think of Feaster.
He is not very good at his job. Joe Morrow was up for grabs, but Feaster missed out on him, ending up with a couple of 'meh' prospect instead.
I really wish we had a better trader in charge right now. There are so many important trades to be made in a short span, and it's very propably that Feaster is going to get suboptimal returns out of pretty much every deal.
The only upside is that he has so much to work with that it would really take a colossal failure not to get something really good back for the future.
As things are, I'm not very excited for that late 1st rounder, because it's basicly just making up for that high 2nd rounder we are missing.
Feaster is an idiot and God help us if he's going to lead te rebuild. Just because Pens made this offer doesn't mean he HAD to accept it. Boston deal was bad but was at least better than this crap we got.
I've also lost some respect for Iginla as well, and it's a terrible way to end a great 15 years. Once he gave his list, he shouldn't have had any negotiation power. I get why he went to the Pens instead of Boston, but he was willinf to waive his NMC anyway to go to Boston and should have let the Flames get the best deal available. He shouldn't have been driving the trade.
Still, can't hate a guy who was an icon to the city and tje franchise. But the way he left certainly left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Well, the wife is a Crosby fan. When she thinks of Crosby her eyes go all dreamy and she breathily sighs "Sidneeeeee......"
Happy wife, happy life I guess.
my better half isn't a hockey fan so no such outside influence for me.
I just can't respect a franchise that has clearly thrown games in the past just to get a top pick, as they most definitely did it to land Mario and facts tell me they did again in '03 (Ovechkin/Malkin draft). Also I have zero respect for an owner who quit the game calling it a "garage league". I think that organization is a disgusting example of what is wrong with professional sports, I think its worse than the way the Canucks make a joke of the league with their diving and other antics.
But I guess this is probably not the place for that discussion.

You guys all do realize that Iginla's chances of playing for the Flames in the 2013-14 season hasn't changed right? He could have walked in the off season for a contender (he deserves this) or even come back with a ring on next season (his family could stay here). Either way, the chances of him back on the Flames for next season or seasons after hasn't changed.
There's no conditional picks, and it's quite clear we aren't going to benefit from Iginla's services this season.
As much as I'd have loved to get a steal back, the reality is... this season is a loss with or without him. Whether he's playing for the Flames next season or not hasn't changed. Maybe he'll sign a 1-2 year with the Pens if they don't win this year... who knows.
I guess what I'm saying is... this hasn't sunk in yet. He's been rented, but he's not gone. Until Iginla retires with another jersey on, he's still our Captain in my eyes.
The fact that we have 2 1sts and 2 prospects to show for our generous rental is great!
While I'm not saying this is a guarantee (or that I'll give Iginla in red again for 2013-14 high odds) I still think this is a great return for what (in the Pens eyes) is a few months of Iginla.
Far better than what Morrow returned (I as well immediately screamed 'Morrow returned more!' until I re-evaluated) but IMO Hanowski, Agostino and a 1st gives the Flames a higher probability of turning in an impact roster player than Morrow (who was having issues in the Pens system already) and a lower draft. Not that I wouldn't have loved Morrow, it's just an alternative POV considering we're talking in unknowns and theory already.
As a London boy, I really would have loved to have Harrington or Maata come back though. Love watching those guys play, and would have been awesome to pick up a off-white London jersey with a Flames prospect on the back
Years ago? Oh you mean a whole 2 years ago! Last year he scored 32, I guess he isn't worth more than a couple 5th rounders and bottom line plugs.
That is hilarious you defend a brutal trade like this, it is like Phaneuf all over again, get nothing but junk.
I never defended the trade. I took great pains to say I don't know the two NCAA players coming back and therefore can't judge the merits of this deal for a while.
Now you say they're both 5th rounders and are bottom line plugs? Oh my.
Sorry, either you're a troll or you're just not rational, as every post you've made tonight confirms.
Holy hell. He had nearly identical stats to Zach Parise last year!
I SO hate all the talk from idiots around the league about him being "nearly done" or washed up, or any talk of the sort.
He's STILL in his productive years. They haven't ended yet. I don't even take into account this season with the total anomaly that it's been. He's looked every bit as much himself this year, and has already fired 100 shots on net, no one else on the team can come even close. Also taking into account his shooting percentage is way below his average. It would improve over a full 82. We know exactly how it goes for Jarome over a full season. He would've had 30+ again this year.

Another reason I'm pretty jacked to see him heading to Pitt. He's been putting up numbers on a largely lacklustre squad. Imagine what he could do with Crosby or Malkin centering him.
He earned that right. The boneheads that ran this team had 17 bloody years to get him a centre. And he took 2 hometown discounts that cost him 10-15 million over his career.
Flames can get bent right now.

This.
I will always love the team but any of you acting like Iginla was out of line for wanting to get out of dodge while he's still able to contribute to a team with a legit shot at a cup have another thing coming.
Honestly, David Frigging Moss and Blake Friggen Comeau had a shot (out of sheer desperation) centering our top line this season and last.
That revolving door of grinders/wingers and 2b centres that they tried to pair with Iggy was nothing other than blatant failure in drafting, trading and managing this team.
It's no surprise we're in shambles now and Iginla had every right to move on.
The handful of posters confused about the quality of the return for a guy who's contract expires at the end of this season is also really puzzling. Getting a late first was just about what could be expected. A crap shot in the two prospects is par for the course.
IMO the best thing in all of this is seeing Iginla getting to play with Crosby and having a very good shot at the cup. Good for him. He deserves it.
