This is not the Phaneuf trade. The Phaneuf trade returned no prospects and no draft picks. Instead it saddled us with mediocre NHLers with significant contracts. This trade is much better for the team and fits the rebuild mold that we are going to be entering into.

Being a little over dramatic today Ari? It's not finalized yet, but even then, two prospects and a first round pick? Not a bad return for a month of Iggy IMO.
No.

Bartkowski is one of Bostons top defense prospects, and Koko is a small center with a ton of upside. Plus a first. Only time will tell if this is a good deal or a terrible one....or even the actual deal.
Bartkowski can barely be considered a prospect at this point.
175 AHL games
11 NHL games
He'll be 25 in about 2 months.

Exactly how I feel. How many people on this forum said that the time to trade Iggy was a couple years ago? How many people said the return wasn't what we expected it to be. Well here it is folks. This is it right now. I'm not surprised by the return. If anything positive is to come out of this, it's that the culture change this team has so desperately needed...is happening.
Before we all get the pitchforks out, lets wait for the official annoucement.
I'm not surprised at the return either, and honestly I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making it out to be (if that is indeed what we're getting back.) No team is gonna give up the farm for a 35-year old player on the downside of his career. And please don't get me wrong. Iggy is still an excellent player, but his best days are behind him, folks. If the Flames wanted a blue chip all-world return for Iggy, they should have traded him 2 or 3 years ago. I freakin' LOVE the guy and it's sad to see him go, but this is the start of a much needed culture change for this team.
I have to say, I like the Khochlachev and 1st part. I'll reserve judgement for the Bartkowski part. He is only 24, so we'll see. I like what I'm reading about him on HF, but that's HF.

People would've been calling fro Feater's head if all Iggy got was Joe Morrow, this is a much better return. Stop looking at where they were drafted. Jamie frickin Benn was drafted in the 5th round not long ago. Let Weisbrod and Co. do their job.

The Russian kid is fine, a potential top six guy, who is still in his teens.(turns 20 in September)
The first rounder is good too.
I would have liked another piece like the Russian though, another kid that aged with either top 6 or top four potential.
Where I am at too, I dislike the rumored deal due to the 24 year old depth D. Another young "hit or miss" prospect or even a second round pick would have been far more ideal.

What I'm wondering is are the Flames still gonna be in "win now" mode without Iginla? Or are we gonna actually try to get what we can for some of our higher value players and begin a youth movement for the future?
