Iggy would sell jerseys. Even his nickname (Iggy) is marketable.
No way Pens will tinker with their top two lines right now. They have incredible chemistry. Kunitz, Dupuis having career years.....Crosby leading the league in points. They aren't going to put Iginla in the mix and ruin the chemistry. No way. besides, they need defensive help, if anything.

A light-hearted evaluation of Iggy's possible life choices. My favourite:

Refuse to be traded, give an inspiring speech about believing in your teammates even if nobody else does, then shock the world by leading your team to a stunning championship

Also known as: Fantasyland.

The precedent: None. Sorry.

Pros: Would be, without question, the best possible ending for the Jarome Iginla story.

Cons: You know this can’t happen, because you are not 5 years old.

Unintended consequence: Disney makes a movie about the story, Will Smith plays you, and the soundtrack features the hit single “Getting Iggy With It.”

If Iggy is traded to Pitt ( i don't think it will happen) there is no doubt he plays with Crosby.

I don't think there is anything in the organization you don't look at trading other than draft picks if it means you can acquire another top 10 or top 5 pick this year.

There is such a lack of can't miss in our system that I would deal Baertschi if it meant another pick in the top 5-7 of the draft this year.

This franchise absolutely needs quality before anything else. I like Baertschi and think he is a quality prospect, but he's a tier below where the Flames need to be and as such, for me, wouldn't be untouchable if it meant getting a very high end draft pick, or the equivalent under 20 years old.

Didn't they just trade for Morrow to tinker with their top two lines?

I guess this is better than the garbage too slow BS you have been trying to promote.

Yeah I'm with Duhatschek on this one. He felt the two situations were markedly dissimilar because the Sundin affair had dragged on for a couple of years and that he didn't really want to go anywhere and was forced to by pressure. Also he said he's in fact older. Not a ton, but older.

Depends on where he goes.

But firstly, Iginla has a 'brand' that he seems to have developed over the years - fantastic hockey player, tough as nails (used to be, anyways), terrific leadership, uber-athletic, Team Canada veteran, well-spoken, professional in all respects... these are what make up the Iginla brand.

Throw in 'stepping stone facts' such as that he helped Crosby score the Golden Goal, he went into sub-human beast mode during the 2004 Playoffs, has scored 50 goals twice, has never scored less than 30 for many years... people know what he has done. It sounds silly, but it all adds up.

And whether people like to admit it or not, his skin color is marketable, too. He is an ideal role model in professional sports, and playing in cities like Boston, Los Angeles or Chicago - where the African-American communities are significantly larger than Calgary's - presents an opportunity to gain a stronger foothold on those potential markets.

Iginla is a known commodity even out east; I just don't believe he has the same type of reputation that Sundin has (Sundin is a great character as well). Iginla's is just more marketable is a variety of demographics.

Trading for Bernier would be singularly stupid, we don't have a goaltending depth issue.
What would be singularly stupid is handing the starting goaltender job to a guy who hasn't played a single game in the NHL. Apprenticing as a backup for a season or two is the normal route to becoming an NHL starter.

And the rest of the Flames' goaltending depth is 4-6 years away from NHL-starter ready.

So I guess you wouldn't mind Ramo coming over then to challenge for the starting position?

Sorry, but that's only the case in a few Canadian markets. Most hardcore hockey fans in Boston or LA have no doubt heard of Iginla. But I doubt most would recognize his face.

Did the Red Wings sell loads of Modano jerseys when he joined the team? And as an American, Modano would have been a very well-known figure to Detroit fans. How about Shanahan for the Rangers? Sundin in Vancouver?

This isn't Sidney Crosby we're talking about. Iginla won't even be among the top 2-3 players on any team he goes to, so I wouldn't expect any marketing bonanza. The boat on Iginla having that sort of impact on a new team sailed 3-4 years ago.

I've heard some people say that, while the 2014 draft isn't as top-heavy as 2013, the draft is deeper overall.

If we're going to be trading with a team that's going to pick 25-30, a 2014 1st rounder may not be a terrible idea.

Not sure if posted yet but Mark Cullen outlines the four teams interested in Iginla and what they could offer, as well as past deadline deal trades for comparison:

The Pens have Dupuis in their top 6. Don't tell me there isn't room for improvement.
