I asked about this Russian player yesterday as I have similar fears. Apparently he played for his dad's team in the KHL and came over to play in the AHL? If true, stay far far away.

Frankly, stay far far away regardless.

I'm a bit surprised people think Iginla would come back... IMO when he's gone, he's gone. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that wants to be a cheap rental, he wants to be part of a team.

Good section from Friedman:

They want good young players, whether at the NHL level or prospects. They are also looking for high draft picks. It is not an insignificant price. Reports out of Pittsburgh indicated the Penguins considered it too rich for them.

There are two factors conspiring against Calgary. One is the low number of teams currently part of the process. The other is that Iginla's had a certain comfort zone for a long time. He's been the Alpha Flame. How easily will he adapt to a new situation where he'll be asked to play differently?

More less in line with my points in another thread about how the limited amount of teams and issues with team chemistry would most likely reduce his trade value.

I think his dad was coach of World Juniors not KHL team but I could be wrong or it could be both.

This, and there's no way that he would resign with a team that's going to be terrible and rebuilding for the next few years.

I would think that if he gets traded, except for being a visiting player it would be a looooong time before he steps back into the building as a member of the Flames or to be saluted by the Flames.

Bizarre conclusion you draw there. How else do teams end up with up to date scouting reports on every NHLer and every AHLer without pro scouting?

Either way from hearing reports on him earlier this year he does seem like a talented yet questionable guy so typical Russian prospect in today's game.

He played in KHL for his dad's team. I believe his dad was let go as the GM. He played for Russia in the World Junior tourney. He then went to Windsor after the tourney. Windsor failed to make the playoffs so Boston assigned him to Providence.

I think it will come down to LA and Boston with LA getting Iginla. Bernier will be part of the package going to Calgary.

I hope you are right about those 2 teams. They are my 2nd and 3rd favorite teams in the league.

Someone somewhere put, Bernier Toffoli and a 1st. If that's out there we should take it and run to the bank because I would be shocked LA would offer so much.

Even if its Bernier + Toffoli that's a pretty damn good deal IMO.

A lot of folks saying this. I just don't see it. Why would Calgary want to minimize the impact of the trade by acquiring an unproven goaltender? At this point, John Gillies could easily be the starter in 3 years. Why do they need Bernier?

I would burn my Iginla jersey if he signed with the Canucks. Seriously. That would be a huge slap in the face.

I would not burn it, you could probably get 30-50 bucks on Kijiji
