I think this is exactly what you do when you are rebuilding. You have cash to spare, its not needed for 3 to 5 years when your draft picks are coming off of ELC's. You need some veteran players, and the aquisition cost is zero.

Now one and 2 year deals are better as you can flip them at the deadline for more picks but signing mid level UFA's is definately part of rebuilding.

In 3 to 5 years is Wideman still a PP QB? yes so that is part of the future. Is Hudler a second line winger on a playoff team? Yes, you sign him.

The branch you're clinging to is the fact that despite their best intentions, they didn't deal a top 5 pick?

That's somehow a sign of a rebuild? Trying and being unable to deal your 1st round pick in a year when you already don't have a second rounder? That's what rebuilding looks like?

You're right, you really got me. It was all just a ploy by Feaster and Friends to make it LOOK like the flames were trying to trade their first, but ACTUALLY! they were trying to KEEP their first the whole time.

Maybe Cris Angel is running the hockey ops department?

It was all just slight of hand. Misdirection.

"There has to be another move coming."

"I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop."

"This is just a precursor to a bigger deal."

I said a million times that you cannot win with a guy like Ollie and I was right.

Pursuit of that oaf almost singlehandedly ruined the Flames. Both times, as he exercised his right to decline a trade at deadline the second time.

OMG I cannot believe the love people have for that oaf. He is evil incarnate and any team with him on it is cursed.

He's keeping you honest. The Flames never traded a top 5 pick, something you're deriding them for. You can throw a temper tantrum all you want but he called you out for making a silly hyperbolic argument.

Yet his first playoff appearance was while on the Flames.

The pursuit is what almost ruined the team, not Jokinen himself. He completely changed his game for the benefit of the team and the system, how many "oafs" do that?

Initially, yes he does. What you need to do is trade him away. Then wait for a year and trade for him again. Once he comes back he seems to have a spark that may or may not last for about 3 months. At least he is a good guy and actually he played really well here last year.

Dammit, I miss Ollie for the gifs and memes alone.

He has a point.

Never was crazy about Olli. I just found him to be too relaxed out there. He never had another gear where he could be a difference-maker. He really didn't do a lot of damage to his own team and was a solid if unspectacular player for us. His size was good and he didn't get beat too badly on the faceoff dot.

But, I was just never a fan of his style of game. Didn't do enough of the little things well enough to be a top line center.
