Hmmm.
One can argue that he was our most consistent player from October 2010 to April 2012.
Jokinen was pretty good in his second stint.

Imagine the backlash if the Flames brought Jokinen back for a third time.
Babchuk + Jackman for Jokinen.
Sadly he would probably actually really help this Flames team.

....consistently not the best player.
He brought what he brought on a consistent basis - but what that was, was not nearly good enough.

Don't care that the flames let Olli go, but i still think the flames plan for this year was very flawed. Flames could not afford to get worse at the center position and compete for a playoff spot. If they truley wanted to compete for a playoff spot they would have been better off re-signing Olli or getting another center.

Jokinen was actually decent for the Flames last year.
And while letting him go may have been a good move, overall the Flames clearly do not have any clue what they're doing.

Not to derail the thread but this is why I disagree with people who say the flames aren't rebuilding right now. The team would have been better with joki or stoll etc but they chose to allow backlund and cervenka to get more ice time with quality wingers.
Joki would have been an average second line center but really we needed to see what Backlund and Cervenka could do with those minutes to progress towards the future.

I agree with chosing to give Backlund more ice time. As for Cervenka, our scouts and Weisbrod did a horrible job in scouting him. He is not an NHL center, he is one of the softest players i have ever seen.
Also you don't sign Hudler and Wideman to big contracts if the flames were rebuilding.

Uh, I think even the most prominent Jokinen detractors on this board would be in favour of converting a Jackman into a Jokinen at the measly cost of a Babchuk.

Meant in the media...they would not care about the return, they lost their minds when we brought him back for free...know that most on here came around to Jokinen last season.

Bingo.
Management and the owners are rebuilding. They just haven't told any of the fans.

I've felt this way since the Regehr trade. It's just not an all at once firesale, but it's been slowly happening the past couple seasons. Will be very interesting to see what we do leading to April 3rd.

Have either one of those guys actually got those minutes? Seemed like Tanguay got the Jokinen top line minutes.
Also, not sure that adding a 26 year old center is much of a rebuild.

He was the Flames best player for the first 60 games last season.
Just don't expect 1st line type play from him.
Line him up against some of the bigger offensive threats and use him for Powerplay zone entry (arguably the best Flame at gaining the blueline we've had, and it is missed). He was effective in that role.

Does anyone honestly believe that the Flames would be in a different position right now if they had re-signed Jokinen?
The Flames had exactly the same amount of success when he was here as they're having now.
I thought the general desire among fans was to get away from all of the 30-somethings that have not gotten us into the playoffs.

I liked Jolli while he was here... honestly have not watched him play much for the Jets, but too bad he is not doing well this year.
