To add my 2 cents on unpopular opinions. Dion Phaneuf is one of the nicest guys you'll meet. My wife used to volunteer at the Childrens Hospital and he went out of normal Flames committment to really make a difference for tons of kids. Easily the most committed Flame to that cause and the void has yet to be filled after the trade. His girlfriend was big into the cause as well.

A CP poster and an all round great guy, made arrangements for my kids to meet some of the Flames as they were coming home from a game in Vancouver (it was a loss that night). It was very late, after midnight if I recall correctly, and the Flames were coming off the plane through the terminal and into the parking lot.(private area). All the Flames were coming out and the kids were polite and respectful in asking for autographs and pictures. All the Flames players were more than happy to sign their jersey and have a picture taken. Anders Erickson walked across the parking lot to chat with the kids. Very happy go lucky kinda guy. Dion Phaneuf was the friendliest of the bunch. He was giving the kids a hard time for being up so late and was generally very chatty and more than happy to pose for a few pictures. My kid's idol, Kiprusoff, was very quiet but happy to spend some time talking to my son (goalie as well).
Last guy out was Iginla and when the kids approached him, he was very blase about the whole thing. Yes it was late, yes they lost and no, I dont know what his circumstances were prior to the meet but my kids were 10 and 12 at the time and they were talking to one of their heros. In my humble opinion, you're a celebrity, these are kids, you're their idol, take the time and at least seem somewhat interested....your teammates were.
Thats the story.

Troy Ward is seriously overrated as a prospect developer.

My unpopular opinion for the day is that I don't like how many people feel they are entitled to other people's time at any point that is convenient for them.
Jarome Iginla plays hockey and that's his job. You and your kids can choose to pay $100 a ticket to watch him play, or not. Your kids can idolize them or not, but you are not entitled to his time at any point that happens to work best for you. If he chooses to chat with your kids great, but he certainly doesn't have to. He's going to have good days and bad. And frankly I'm rather pleased the Captain of the team was in a pissy mood after a loss and didn't feel like talking to people.

"Politically correct" is basically code for "not being an insensitive jackass." Why is being inclusive and tolerant and considerate of others' feelings a bad thing? Most of the time, someone complaining about political correctness wants to say/do something offensive/rude/bigoted without being called on it.

You should follow this PC post with a nice long winded post full on hate (an expert in the psychiatry field would probably identify the source of the hate in inferiority complex and "i'm a victim" attitude) on "white rich dudes"

Peter Maher has lost a step and needs to be packing it in soon, really soon. He's way behind the play way more often that he's not and he gets away with it because he's on radio.
If he were the normal TV guy, people here would realize.

Oil and gas aren't from decayed dinousaur blubber, aka "fossil fuels." These result from the earth's natural processes.

You sure this isn't your Mahr hatred coming out? You've disliked him for years so I'm not sure if I should believe you.
Which is weird because you're always the first guy to defend the media.

The oil and gas we extract today was around before the dinosaurs were said to have existed, but they are still made from dead organisms that are subjected to intense compression and heat underneath sedimentary rock. That's why they're called 'fossil fuels', not because they were made from dinosaur fossils.
So it's not really an unpopular opinion, you just don't hold the common misconception.

Exactly. Specifically, most of the organisms were plankton and algae.

I don't hate Maher at all. The man is a legend. I have so much respect for him and what he has done. And I don't dislike him, I just think he should be hanging up the headphones soon. But the man has done so much, he absolutely deserves the right to go out when he wants to.

What bothers me more is how much he tries to sell us that the Flames aren't that bad (Maher in the Morning and NHL Insider). It's kind of insulting to our intelligence. I know he works for the Flames indirectly, but he is approaching Oiler levels in putting lipstick on pigs. He is often digging up some stat or story to try and persuade us that things aren't that bad.
