But then we would have to package at least a 2nd rounder for them to take him back.

hmmm how about they take Tim Jackman back too. Mind bottling signings by Feaster.

He's maybe more desirable because he's payed significantly less than Bouwmeester, but he's certainly not a better player.

Hamonic plays with a physical style that JayBo has never possesed. I want the impact d-man, not the one who logs a lot of icetime because he avoids physical play.

Not only would the isles be giving up the better and much cheaper d-man, but they'd be tossing in their top forward prospect.

Keep him.
Ullstrom's got Comeau's old spot.Ullstrom's younger and cheaper.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ullstrom outscored Blake this season.

So more physical = better dman...got it
My post was in response to the comment that Hamonic was a better player. I wasn't advocating the trade proposal, nor was I discounting Hamonic's value.

No.

Sure he was drafted 5th overall but he shouldn't of been. He shouldn't went about 10-15, but this is the Isles were talking about here.

Stempniak+Butler for Nino I would do. No reason for Gaudreau to be in there.

Gaudreau is gonna be a special player, I wouldn't be so quick to toss him into trade proposals.

I would love for Bouwmeester to be involved somehow

Soft? Niederreiter probably is better known for having a mean streak than being soft. Also...another? Are we talking Baertschi or going further back?

Correction - Nino was considered a 5-10 pick, mostly in the 7-8 range. Central Scouting had him at 12th NA skaters (I don't recall many European players that year), ISS had him at 7th, Hockey Writers had him at 8. I think McKenzie put him 7th as well. Islanders taking him at 5 was a slight stretch, but not as big as you make him out to be.

The value you suggest is way too low unless you're willing to bide your time ala Turris. We have to consider circumstance as well as exactly what the Islanders know. They know Wang likely used him as cap circumvention last year. They know they played him 5-6 minutes a night. They know that he's, outside of the Oiler's NHL starting line, one of the best power forwards in the AHL. Take away the fact that he no longer qualifies as a rookie because of a 6 game conditioning stint and he's second only to Justin Schultz in rookie scoring. I think his value to the Islanders is likely going to be similar to how we viewed Backlund early on in his career.

I keep thinking that a deal like this has to start and end with Bouwmeester or Giordano for Vishnovsky type of addition. The Islanders can't use him because he seems insistent on not being there and need something to add to their own frail blue line. If Nino is moved, it's to improve the team by reducing weaknesses and a team with a defence weaker than the Flames will certainly ask top a top 3 defender in return.

Did you accidently take a stupid pill today?, Nino can't make the friken Islanders and you trade a probable hobey baker winner and argueably the best forward at the WJ's for him.

I don't think you realize how rare it is what Gaudreau is doing at his age in the NCAA,you have to go back to Paul Kariya to find a player that won so much at an early age.

Whether he makes it in the NHL or not, you simpley don't take that chance to trade a player like him.
