Those scenarios are not accurate in terms of what we individually talked about......we discussed different aspects of each however.

Ya sorry Andrew- I just added a disclaimer that I was driving and may not have it exact. I'm pretty sure its close though? Please correct if I am wrong.
Also yes, they were posed more as questions than suggestions.
edit: hmmm, I just showed this post to a coworker that was listening and he was was pretty sure he heard the first 2 as well, while Boomer asked the question if Gaudreau was enough alone to get it done..

I wouldn't trade Brodie straight up for Nino. We need defence more than we need wingers.

IMO take out the 4th going to Calgary and instead add a 4th or even 2014 3rd going to NYI. Might still be very far off from the Isles' perspective.

Like you said, they were posed more so as questions - would you do X for Nino? Would X get this done? etc.
I found it amusing that when Rhett threw out Brodie and a first there was a moment of semi-stunned silence from Walker and Boomer, and both agreed that would probably get done (and probably isn't the kind of deal the Flames are in a position to make for a number of reasons).

Yup, Warrener's suggestion would for sure get it done- I would maybe consider it if we knew the pick was going to be 20th or higher ;-)

I would not move Johnny Gaudreau for Nino, no way.
It really sucks not having that 2nd rounder this year.
I was thinking along the same lines as handgroen.
NYI: Chris Butler + Max Reinhart OR Greg Nemisz + Maybe a 3rd rounder
CGY: Nino Niederreiter
And even then, we have no clue what the Islanders would want for Niederreiter, or if they even care about having a second Reinhart.
Boomer posed the question that if the Isles wanted more than Chris Butler, for example, or that if they wanted a 1st (which obviously we don't want to give), then would the Flames be open to moving Bouwmeester in a bigger deal involving Niederreiter?
If Bouwmeester goes to the Isles, then obviously they need to add more than just Niederreiter. Looking at their roster on CapGeek, the only D-man I am interested in would be Travis Hamonic. Even if it means we need to add Max Reinhart or Greg Nemisz. Or am I completely out to lunch?

Gadreau is exactly that though, so I don't see how you can call him for Nino an overpayment. Regardless I can't see the Flames being eager to offload Johnny Hockey after his WJC performance this year.

^ I was thinking a Bouwmeester for Nino and Hamonic would be a good deal. I'd throw Reinhart in to get it done.

Snow laughs his azz off.
Isles would not move one of those pieces for Bouwmeester.
Hamonic is younger, much cheaper and a easily better defenseman at this point.
Nino's development is back on track, after a rotten rookie season. He's tearing up the AHL.
Isles couldn't care less that Max is Griffin's brother.

Hamonic being a better defenseman than Bouwmeester is pretty laughable.
He's maybe more desirable because he's payed significantly less than Bouwmeester, but he's certainly not a better player.

Unless the Flames are getting an established superstar under the age of 25, they should not be trading any 1st rounders. Good young players are gold in the cap system and you keep as many as you can, this goes for Sven, Gaudreau, and Brodie (more because of a general lack of this type of prospect in the system).
Any other asset other than the above mentioned should be moveable.

If you think the value of Gaudreau compared to Nino's is lopsided in Gaudreau's favour then you might as well stop speculating. The Islanders aren't going to want our garbage for Nino, and low draft picks + mediocre prospect/s isn't going to get it done.
With that said I would keep Brodie over Nino if that's the question.

Honestly, I just want the Flames to keep Gaudreau because of the emotional investment I've put in. It'd be nice to see an actual Flames draft pick blossom into something special. Sure the guy could be a bust, but he could also be a superstar. For that, I wouldn't trade him. If it was pure hockey sense, then yes it would probably make sense to dangle him for Nino.

I think you could get him for Nemisz and Bulter. Nemisz being your first round and Bulter just there to carry the bags.

I know what you mean. It's important to keep expectations for a 4th rounder grounded, but hearing comparisons to Paul Kariya makes me want to take the chance with this one. We are due for an off the radar homerun at some point. It might be a long shot that it happens, but for once it would be nice to have one we can call our own.
Having said that, I don't think he is an untouchable prospect. I just can't figure out if Niederreiter is the player to go for. How much of his disappointment so far is Islanders induced and how much is on him? It's hard to say.

They have to keep him since I invested in a Gaudreaubey Baker T-shirt.
