The vast majority of people would move to the new house.

The vast majority of prospects sign with the team they are drafted by if the team shows interest.

Thats all there is to it.

(only managed to read 10+ pages of this thread, sorry if its been brought up...)

Why didn't we dump a contract (Stajan,Hagman???), if we had to lose Erixon? Feaster's so busy reminding us how bare the cupboards are, when its not even the number 1 issue facing this franchise....its - overpaid deadweight.

There is another side to the coin too. Deliert, Bjorklund and Bennett were all drafted by the Flames and unable to negotiate with other NHL teams for 2 years, and they have nothing to show for it. It's a crappy business sometimes.
that is a very good point, and I would accept that, as long as teams can pass on their draft choices in the later rounds

someone previously suggested not allowing bonuses on contracts of players that re-enter the draft by their own choice, I think this might be a good idea

it wouldn't have mattered, Feaster told Erixon he would make room for him and it made zero difference... and everytime Feaster offered a solution they came up with a new excuse

No, I meant after the fact (we were losing Erixon, no matter what), why not force the NYR to take one of our sexy contracts as well.

Because they probably would have said no and then just drafted him instead. Why would they agree to such a deal? Makes no sense from their point of view.

What Jiri said... there is no reason they would take one, they would chance it and package their 2nds to move up and try to draft him

In all of this controversy, we have lost sight of the 'winners' in all of this:

Horak and Howse.

I am sure they will enter Abby much more comfortable and with the best chance to develop.

The way I see it we have lost the last 4 or 5 trades the Flames have taken part in. Rebuild, it is inevitable.

The White trade went pretty well if you ask me. A couple free agency pickups also look good. However, too say this team is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now isn't an over stating things.

Babchuk & Kostopoulos >>>> White & Sutter

The Flames very clearly won that trade and that was the last trade before the Erixon trade which was forced upon us...

Erixon was gone no mater what we did, so turning a compensation pick that would have been 53rd into 45th, 57th and Horak is a win as well

Horak, 45th, 57 will all be stars, the sucker that went to NYR will fail and head back to SEL.

Wish I had your confidence. However, I still think we have a shot at Richards. So calling you delusional would be a bit hypocritical.

While we did win that trade it was part of one of the worst trades during the Sutter regime. Knowing what we could have got for Phaneuf and what we are saddle with now is depressing to say the least and the fact that Babs doesn't seem to be in the fold as a UFA makes the above trade meh at the end of the day.

we could have gotten a different deal in the off-season, absolutely. I'm sure we could have gotten some picks/prospects in the deal - but Sutter was trying to save the season, and ultimately it was a big reason why he lost his job.

I wish he would have waited until the off-season. Even if it wasn't "better", so long as it was a different package for Dion, we'd be in a better situation. Sutter really did some significant damage to this organization in that 2-3 month span from the Dion trade until the end of the season.
