I know a lot of people in their 30s who like Metric.

Of course, many of them started liking them in their 20s. The band has been around for a decade already.

You just described a lot of post-Black album Metallica fans that I know.

If I didn't listen to 92.9 I probably would have never heard of them either, so I not surprised a lot of people don't know about them.

I think Ken King would say the # 1 complaint they get is around music. No matter what they select, more people will probably dislike a given song, than like it.

So, they can play lowest common denominator stuff, or try to throw a bone to every group.

I never heard of Metric and a year from now I'll probably say the same thing, but at least it wasn't country music.

I am not a Metric fan by any stretch, but just be happy they didn't get some crappy band like Stars to perform. *shudder*

As an old guy who has never heard of Metric (and who loves Iron Maiden), I have to say I thought they were pretty good, and I would gleefully wreck that lead singer (assuming that's a chick and not a guy in drag or a Lady Gaga - as I know nothing about this band, I have to include the disclaimer)...

Teenage vampire music?

Are you Tipper Gore by any chance? Saying that Metric is "vampire music" is right up there with Tipper Gore saying that Twisted Sister was "satanic" back in the 1980s.

He's probably referring to them contributing songs to the Twilight movies. It was a pretty weak dig.

Maybe. Since both did soundtracks for Disney movies, obviously Phil Collins and Elton John are hacks who've never contributed anything to the music world.

When something like that happens I assume the artist just said, "eff it, I've been in this industry so long, I just want a little extra spending cash".

If I started saying Nickelback is the best Canadian band of the last decade (um, they are- they have defined popular hard rock in this decade and had the top sales numbers) then people would be all over me and telling me I listen to crap music and I don't know what I am talking about!

That is the problem with indie music and their fans- they think they are soooooo cool because they listen to boring music. But they're smarter than the rest of us... and we obviously can't appreciate their crappy band in the way they were meant to be appreciated. These are the same people who think their shat doesn't stink.

ON topic: who watched the bands? I was too busy drinking beer and getting hammered to care. Go Nickelback, and go Flames!
I watched Metric & even though I don't know them or their music it was okay. One thing I do agree with that you say. I find fans of Indie bands do act superior like they think that they are way cooler than the rest of us because they know some non descript band only a few others know about. Or maybe they know the names of a few more Indie bands & then make a 20 minute conversation out of it at work usually on coffee... Like great, but who cares other than them?

does anyone have links to the metric concert and the tokyo police club sets played during the game? I was unable to catch them, and I don't see them on youtube.

i had heard of metric before the concert, and i was interested in seeing what they were like. it was a typical tiny speakers in a cavernous stadium sound. they didn't convince me that they were unbelievably amazing and i have to get the discography, but at the same time i will listen to see if i hear some of their stuff on the radio or around the house. live music to me both captures and reflects the atmosphere of where and when it was played, and is usually a completely different experience than recorded sound. i have seen many bands live that i would never buy an album from, but after seeing them live i usually buy the record. it is a funny thing.

kudos to the nhl for giving a different band a chance to play.

i love 80s music and i would have been fine with that too. nickelback would also have been fine.

i thought 5 for fighting were good as well.

i guess i don't understand why people can't just like or not like music and have to bring the hate/love to the poster. i personally wouldn't have minded kiss, and while i wouldn't have picked iron maiden, i could understand why people would like to see them play live.

all in all though...it was a hockey game.
