Guess you'll just have to come to one of the games in early June this year.

EDIT: Mind you the women are much "friendlier" here than in Calgary, so that's a bonus.
Victoria also has some of the most snarky and wealthy street kids out of any city in Canada I have been too. Nothing like some kid wearing $200 dollar leather boots asking you for spare change.

Depends on what you're used to. I'm a prairie boy and have lived all over the west. I'm used to all the snow and mess that comes with it, but I absolutely hate the dreariness of Vancouver. I love Vancouver in August though. Calgary has the things I love the most: big prairie skies, amazing mountains, a thriving metropolis and a great standard of living.

I totally agree.

The main thing that would stop me from living in BC is just the lack of sun. I remember visiting a buddy in Victoria for reading week a couple years ago, and not seeing the sun once the entire time. It was depressing. For me, -10 with sun or snow beats +3 and rain/cloud any time.

That being said, every part of BC that I've seen is gorgeous in the summer, and I love spending summer weekends in Kelowna.

Victoria gets its rainy spells from about December to March and then it clears up again, and even then it's not like it's rainy the entire time. Victoria is actually 6th when it comes to the number of sunny days out of all the major Canadian cities.

I would never live in Vancouver.

Too many Canucks fans. Not enough aylums for the insane.

That being said, it saddens me to think that most people down here (of all ages) just consider Florida a place to go to escape snow. You very rarely hear "Oh, I love the wildlife, I love checking out the swampland and the scrub".
It's all "Oh thank God I'm not up north with those fools shoveling snow."
No one is going to brag about our educational system, or how wonderful the people here are.
Yet when anyone says they want to leave here, the general consensus is "Why? You're crazy!"
As far as the weather goes, these folks won't act so smug when we get a Cat4 hurricane or something, and property values slide even lower.

With that, I'm off to look for some gators. The wildlife/nature is what I love about this place.
And I've been told that if I went to Van I would never come back here.

International Living ranked it as the best city in the world last year. But if my fellow Floridian Mrs Luongo doesn't like it, who am I to say?

Apparently if you want the whole list you can subscribe for $300+.

The "top 10" is just a teaser to get folks to pay for the whole list for things like planning compensation for expatriates. (IE, you get extra pay for the unhappiness of living in Zimbabwe for work, but not for Finland)

If you can't read your license plate because it's covered in filth, it's time to wash your car!!!

And the weather......no thanks. I don't like having to bundle up everytime I step out the door.

Having said all that, I've never really been outside of Vancouver(Cancun, Disneyland and Okanagan towns are the exception) so I can only compare your city to the BEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!
Haha, yeah, well in the winter the city can get pretty gritty. Nothing you can do though. If you try and wash anything it'll freeze damned near instantly.

Calgary is very dirty in the winter. Everything looks so much better in the spring when they clean up the gravel and brush it out of the medians.

For that reason I say bring on the snow. Everything looks better here covered in fresh snow.

That is true of every winter city in the world.

That's just the way it is, both the good and the bad.

Then how do cabs and the black sedan I took from the airport into town keep their cars clean??

Do they wash them indoors and keep them in a warm garage overnight?? I'm actually seriously curious how they keep them clean and not have anything freeze.

I'm pretty sure that the cabbies can wash their cars indoors. They also wash their vehicles frequently when it's sloppy outside.

For me personally, what's the point in spending a lot of time/money washing a vehicle that will be dirty again within 30 minutes? I literally have spray marks up and down the sides of my truck right after washing in the winter. I just rinse of the mud/salt every few days and that's it.

Actually, I think thats exactly what they do. I dont have heated parking, so if I wash my car, not only will it be dirty again the moment I leave the car wash, but the doors and likely the locks will be frozen in no time.

I always assumed you were an ex-Calgarian. How did you become a Flames fan?
