If he's in Vancouver now, you might wanna tell him to look out the window today. Sunny, blue sky and 4 degrees. Awesome day today.

If you're going to come back and give me the old and tired downtown east side argument, might as well stop now. Every city has bad areas. Downtown east side is pretty disgusting and is a big problem, but it's such a small area of the city. Downtown East Side does not define Vancouver as a city like you tried to do with your above comment about the garbage.

Walk in Yaletown, Kits, Coal Harbor, Point Grey, Kerrisdale, Commercial Drive, False Creek etc and show me evidence of littered streets. Your argument is ridiculous.
Where were you walking in Calgary that was so dirty? For its size, Calgary has one of the cleaner cores that I've seen, and I've been to several major cities across Canada and the U.S. And I don't think pointing to the more upper class neighbourhoods in Vancouver is solid evidence of what you're saying. I could do the same thing by pointing to neighbourhoods in Calgary like Pumphill and Mount Royal. That's not to say that Calgary doesn't have it's fair share of disgusting areas, mostly in the NE and SE corners of the city, but downtown and most of the surrounding beltline communities, as well as a lot of the newer suburbs are usually pretty nice.

Calgary is quite muddy/grey right now. The constant snow and chinooks, make for a messy city. Washed my car yesterday, and it is already filthy again.

I like Vancouver but I wouldn't have it at 1, there are any number of places in Europe/Australia that I would have higher

in terms of North America though I think it's right, I would have Calgary ahead of Toronto though, same with Montreal

nice to see Canada so well recognized though

and ya, the weather is great today, and it snowed for about 45 minutes yesterday, the weather here is certainly never dull

My ideal place would be one that has Vancouver's winter weather, and Calgary's sunshine. It's just so cheerful and awesome when you go outside on a sunny, cloudless afternoon. It always brightens up my mood. Even during the winter in Vancouver it gets kind of depressing when it's cloudy and grey all the time. Heck, I don't even mind cold days like Sunday because of all the sunshine we had.

VANFLAMESFAN - Calgary was voted as the cleanest city in the world last year.

But I see what you did there.

The roads were disgusting, and like I said, I understand why it's like that and there's not really anything to be done, but it's still gross nonetheless. I was downtown pretty much the entire time of my stay, and I couldn't believe how dirty everything was.

Yeah, I'm not talking about garbage or sewage or anything like that. I'm just talking about the dirt on the roads, store windows, cars etc.

If you can't read your license plate because it's covered in filth, it's time to wash your car!!!

And the weather......no thanks. I don't like having to bundle up everytime I step out the door.

Having said all that, I've never really been outside of Vancouver(Cancun, Disneyland and Okanagan towns are the exception) so I can only compare your city to the BEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!
When it snows, then chinooks, then snows, then chinooks, then snows, then chinooks, people get tired of having to constantly wash their cars! Calgary doesn't have the luxury of 200 days of rain (or whatever the actual number is) to wash them for us.

Case in point. It was too cold to wash my car for the past couple of weeks, and so I finally am able to wash it yesterday without it freezing my door shut. Today, it looks like I didn't even wash it at all.

It's actually 365. It doesn't stop raining over here. Seriously.

Victoria, BC beats out Vancouver, BC anyday of the week. Vancouver is a mess!

How many days do you spend shoveling your side walk per year?

That's fair. I was meaning more when it's not snowing. Calgary can be quite nice in the summer.

Weather-wise, yes, but I'll take the people in Vancouver 9 time out of 10 over island folk.

I can't seem to find the whole list.

Can someone link it for me?

Calgary is the friendliest out of three cities. Victoria is the worst. It's very cliquey over here. People just aren't very friendly or willing to accept strangers into their little groups. The only people I've made friends with out here aren't from Victoria and they all say the same thing.

EDIT: Mind you the women are much "friendlier" here than in Calgary, so that's a bonus.

Yeah, I've been to Calgary 3 times. All during hockey season for obvious reasons and have always been amazed by the amount of dirt. I'm sure it's a beautiful city in the summer.
