When you have an unlimited bank account, you tend to spend carlessly. Thats one thing I would like to see the Yankees improve. Spending their money more wisely and getting a better return on their investment. It will be interesting to see how they treat Derek Jeter this off season.

Jeter is coming back, you know that.

They definitely don't want to sit that big bat out of the lineup. As long as he doesn't hurt them defensively it should be a good move.

Oh for sure. Still I don't think he deserves to be one of the highest paid players in the majors anymore. Will his pride let him play for a significantly reduced pay cheque? Will the Yankees just offer him a truck load of money regardless? How much longer can he play short stop?
Mickey Mantle played until he decided he didn't want to play anymore (or as long as his body would allow him). The difference between him and Jeter, was that the Yankees dictated how much Mantle would be paid.

I'm thinking the same, but I think Lincecum and Sanchez each eek out a win. Cliff Lee can only do so much himself, but the AL always seems to have better hitting.

It is but Hamilton will love that short right field wall. Only 307 down the line. I think Texas wins not just by their bats but their speed as well.
Posey will definitely be tested behind the plate. Andrus is the key, if he gets on, he'll run havoc.

Another World Series and another cursed team. So far this decade we have seen the reverse of the Curse of the Bambino, reverse of the curse of the Black Sox, and the reverse of the curse of Billy Penn.
Now with the San Francisco Giants some of you may have heard of the curse of Coogan's Bluff. However until this past week I had never heard of the Plague of the Plaque.

Quote:
Lesser known is the Plague of the Plaque, which some blame for the San Francisco Giants’ failure to win a World Series title since their move from the Polo Grounds in New York to The City.
The story starts close to 100 years ago, when a graceful utility infielder named Eddie Grant spent 2½ seasons on the New York Giants. He was not a typical ballplayer — in offseasons, he went to Harvard University and acquired a law degree, said Mickey Bradley, co-author of “Haunted Baseball: Ghosts, Curses, Legends & Eerie Events,” a collection of baseball superstitions and mythology.
“Harvard Eddie,” as he came to be known, retired from the game at 32 years old in 1915. Two years later, World War I broke out, and though he wasn’t drafted because of his age, he volunteered. In 1918, he was killed in a dramatic battle in the French Argonne Forrest.
On Memorial Day 1921, the New York Giants honored Grant by placing a plaque on a memorial — right in the middle of deep center field at the Polo Grounds.
The plaque remained there until 1957, during which time the Giants won four World Series titles. But when the Giants decided to move to San Francisco, the plaque disappeared
|
Can the Giants really be cursed? They have not won a World Series since they moved to the Bay area from the Polo Grounds to start the 1958 season (hence the curse of Coogan's Bluff). Only three teams have had longer championship droughts in the Majors. The Chicago Cubs(we all know about the curse of the Billy Goat) and the Cleveland Indians. Not only that, but the Giants have had some natural disasters occur to their home park during the World Series in 1962 (torrential down pours that delayed play for 10 days) and 1988 (San Francisco earth quake that also delayed play for 10 days). In 2002 the disaster was on the field when the Giants blew a 5-0 lead with 8 outs to go in what would have been the deciding game.
What does the 2010 World Series hold for the San Francisco Giants?

Lee's command just isn't there tonight, he's pitching ok, but just ok.
Lincecum had a rough start but was able to pitch well when it mattered.
That said it's still anybody's game, Go Rangers Go

Jeebus an incredible inning. Lee needed one pitch to get out of it, couldn't do it.
A 6 run inning all after 2 outs.

What a strange game, I think I've seen every sort of mistake in this game.
Must be two nervous teams in Game 1.

I know the talking heads are saying Kinsler fracked that up. However if the base runner knows the potential of a pass ball, wouldn't it be up to the first base coach to tell him not to go? In my mind that was Pettis' mistake, which cost the team the deflating out
No one said this would be a 4 game sweep. My gut told me the Rangers would lose game one on nerves (see game 1 against NYY, and game 5).

No, you could clearly hear the 1st base coach yelling No! No! No!
And if you watch the reply, Kinsler did that on his own. I guess you could say he maybe heard "Go! Go! Go!" but that's still on the baserunner. Hit first, find the ball. Basic stuff I teach kids.

Kinsler is driving me crazy - does he have to adjust his hitting gloves after every pitch?
GS is right - two nervous teams. I didn't think SF would be nervous after a month of intense games.

Didn't think so either but it does show how huge the World Series is.
You could have made a bazillion dollars if you predicted this game would be 14+ runs in a pitcher's park

Texas is just getting shelled.
Hopefully the Giants aren't using up all their offense in game 1!
