Exactly my thoughts. Given her excellent academic record and involvement in extra-curricular activities (based on the article), she shouldn't have had a problem receiving full scholarships from some top 10 schools in the US and the top schools in Canada. No offence to McMaster or McMaster graduates but with those achievements I'd be milking those grades for all they're worth and attend a much more prestigious university. Going to McMaster just seems like a little bit of a waste. Why go through all the trouble if you could have got into McMaster with lowers grades and still get substantial money rewards?

I know a guy that graduated with a 100% on both the Chem 30 and Bio 30 diplomas, and those are legit 100's, not standardized IB 100's. She's impressive no doubt, because I think if I put that many hours I'd still be in the 95-98 range. It's pretty hard to get every question right for the whole damn year.

Hey so for sure those 100% aren't totally legit?
At least your friend is believable unlike some other stuff in this thread. including my stupid link.
So disappointed.

Is that why it took you 12 years to graduate....... from elementary school?

What school is this and when was this? I went to one of the schools in Calgary that's full of bright kids and nobody had a 100% average... even the kids who were on the IB curve (which does make getting 100% a lot easier).
I laughed at this, because clearly whoever wrote it is clueless:
"What makes her achievement even more impressive is that Smrke was enrolled in the acclaimed International Baccalaureate program, which has a more difficult curriculum."

I don't know if the Ivy league goes after anyone... you apply to them, not the other way around. They also claim to have no merit-based scholarships, everything's based on financial need.

It's highschool. In the grand scheme of things it means nothing, especially because she didn't capitalize on it and get into a really good school.
Check out Myron Rolle if you really wanna see some amazing accomplishments.Has his own charity foundation, belongs to a fraternity, plays starting safety for FSU, Graduates in 2.5 years with a 3.75 GPA, get a Rhodes Scholly and takes a year off of football, still gets drafted to the NFL.
On a side note, I would not hit that.

I wonder if she just studied the high school curriculim or if she learnt other things on her own. To me it would be the biggest waste if she was putting in that amount of time on the small amount of material covered by high school.
I that amount of time you could chug through huge amounts of the great books that exist. Study all different kinds of History. Cover all kinds of science. I have much more admiration for the Science Fair winners, the Computer programming winners and the Entrapurnureal competition winners. These people usually are pulling high 90's but putting in that extra time used from going from 95 to a 100 into producing some real value for society.
So if all she did was study the high school curriculum I am sad for her because she just wasted a prime learning year.
I also don't believe 100's are possible outside of Math. It is all part of the Grade Inflation that has occurred ever since Macleans started ranking university's on their entrance average so university's in turns gave out purely Grade based scholarships so high school teachers help kids out by bumping marks here or there or giving kids extra credit oppurtunities.
