Most of the hardware is in fact recognized by Windows out of the box, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get the initial boot completed to install the Apple provided driver package. You need bootcamp drivers for the hardware that Windows doesn't support out of the box, like the multitouch trackpad, the webcam, bluetooth, etc. The driver support is naturally worse out of the box on XP than Vista (for example, XP doesn't know anything about 9400m graphics chips, etc)
In fact, once Windows is installed into a bootcamp partition, there is nothing stopping you from using NVidia's standard chipset and graphics drivers if you want, just like a regular laptop. Apple provides drivers for the same reason as, say Dell - it would be lousy customer service to make you run around to nVidia for your graphics driver, Marvel for your network card, Intel for your wifi controller, Foxconn for the webcam, etc, etc, collecting up all the drivers needed for a fully functional system.

Heh shows you how much I know about clients I only work with enterprise stuff. I just assumed from all the complaints I hear about Windows on Boot Camp that it was some sort of sw layer on top of the hardware kind of like a hypervisor.

64-bit Windows 7 user here since the beta and I can say without a doubt this is Microsoft's best OS.
Happy with the beta. Happy with the RTM and went out and bought a 3 PC family pack for $199 as soon as it was available.
You couldn't drag me kicking and screaming from my Windows to a Mac. No how, no way.

after using the Os even more I'm convinced the new taskbar/quicklaunch is a bad idea. Either go with a dock like mac or stay with what has worked before

What kind of complaints do you get about boot camp, just out of curiosity? For the most part, the only complaints I hear are from people that underestimate how much disk space they should set aside for Windows.

I was wondering where a 3 PC family pack was available?

Hold down the Windows key and press G. This will cycle through your gadgets, which I think was your original gripe.

I really like the new taskbar as well, I prefer it to Windows Vista/XP and I also prefer it to the OSX dock (I have a MBP).

The main one I hear is already in this thread. And these are just my friends running Win7 on it. Battery performance is abysmal. Also apps that usually arent that cpu intensive are using quite a bit of processor power. I guess the drivers aren't Win7 approved yet and thats the culprit. Another thing I am hearing is that Win7 can actually install just fine on a Mac without any other software on there and it will run smoothly. I am sure it takes some rigging so probably not for all users.

Not directed at the op...
What's Mac's market share? They are already getting attention from the malware, spyware and hacker people. There will be a point where soo many people have Macs that Apple will have to start bloating their OS much like Microsoft.
So my question is why do Mac fanboys try to promote the OS?

Got mine at Staples. They had a wall of them.
Oh and I was against the new task bar to begin with, but have started to really like it. Just a change, that's all. It's quite useful when you think about it.

Right around 10% http://www.tuaw.com/2009/01/02/apple...ince-tracking/
I have no problem with Mac's, but also agree that they have had a free ride when compared to MS. The good news for Apple, however, is that they should be able to learn from Microsoft's mistakes.
Say what you want, but Windows 7 is a solid OS and should win back a lot of customers.

Ugh... I hope this isn't true. Being able to install OSX onto a netbook was the one thing that was making me take a long look at trying it. I could only imagine the gnashing of teeth and lawsuits that would happen if MS tried something like this. Hell, they'll get sued for giving out a free web browser these days...

Welcome to the difference between being a hardware company that writes its own software vs a software company that writes its software for all hardware. People keep thinking that Apple is a software company. They aren't. They are a hardware company who writes their own software for their own hardware.
There will be no lawsuits, nor should there be.
PS: btw, just so we're clear... What you were planning to do is actually illegal. Complaining about not being able to do it is akin to someone else complaining that the gas station down the street just installed an alarm system, so now they can't break into it like they were planning.
Edit: Also, MS never got sued for "offering a free web browser." They got sued for making it impossible to uninstall that web browser and install someone else's in its place.

I did not know Apple made it's own CPUs , ram, harddrives and motherboards. Or is the hardware you are talking about the computer case, keyboards and mice? hehehe
I mean that who needs a quad core Intel CPU to run their computer. All they need is apple's buttonless mouse.

It's like you live on a completely different planet from everyone else or something.
Does HP make their own processors, ram, etc? Even from you, that was a pretty lame comment.
