Default Windows 7: More disapointing as the days go on

After using a friends mac and screwing around with iMacs at future shop, I have to admit I'm really disappointed with windows 7. At 1st some of the obvious mistakes and cosmetic touch ups were nice, the new hot links on the my computer window, for instance (great addition). Yet as the days go on I run into frustrating issues, like the confusing and complicated ownership commands (to try and rename windows sidebar... the vista side bar had more options, if you can believe) the taskbar/quick launch also has a funny quirk; when you click a link on yoru task bar it often expands as the active window. problem is if your in a site that wont let you start a new window, liek a java chatroom, you have to open the start menu as clicking the firefox link only switches to the chat room (unless you right click, then hit new.. a seemingly small gripe but it completely mitigates the function of a quick launch bar)

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been, and Mac continues to march and improve their hardware and OS. Very disappointing.

How's everyone else on 7 so far?

Have you seen the new mac mouse? It's a thing of beauty and a huge leap in functionality for mice. Not to mention Mac displays are the tops, they are gorgeous.

mice are not hardware though, they are peripherals. The hardware is the same in PCs and Macs now.

if your comparing the displays/monitors than Microsoft has nothing to do with that. You can ask Samsung LG, HP Acer and the other manufacturers why there displays don't look like apples.

I've been a Mac user for almost a year now, but this almost seems like a veiled attempt at trolling PC guys...

yeah baby if you think this is a veiled attempt at trolling PC guys you might as well be accusing me of trolling myself. I just bought 7 and have always had a PC, and I'm expressing my frustration. Is everything trolling to some people? holy crap

Sigh... Mac has done a good job of promoting their product to the lowest common denominator.

Windows 7 is fantastic. Many, many improvements too numerous to mention. By far the easiest O/S to use and adapt to (unlike Mac).

Snow Leopard was a disaster but you don't see Microsoft making, IMO, petty ads promoting this failure.

I still don't get this whole display thing. How are they different. I have a 26" LCD and it is easily comparable to the 27" Mac all in one display. Maybe it's the O/S, which some think is slicker that makes the display seem better?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but windowsxp was a fantastic operating system, especially after SP2. Vista is absolute garbage and I'm hoping Windows 7 is better. The problem seems to be Windows now wants to be more like Mac, when they should just be trying to do their own thing.

I find windows 7 better than any mac i have used, i dont like the mouse system on macs, dont like the orientation of how it works with the application bar, or even the menu systems at the top.

And with the display.... get a good monitor

I have a samsung 24", it's a great monitor but pales in comparison to the mac monitors.

My beef with 7 and vista is, as far as I can tell and feel, they've tried to make the windows enviroment like the mac enviroment, and in doing so screwed up what was great about windows and missed the mark in being like mac

It was never on course in the first place.

It's always how a typical OS complaint goes... usually it focuses on how it looks different. Do people forget about the background changes in security or anything that actually matters?

I'm not making the switch between XP and windows 7 anytime soon. I love XP, so easy to use. I don't like Macs but don't overly insult them. Every time I talk to my friend who has a Mac he always bashes on PCs and thinks Macs are superior in every way.

Macs are way overpriced IMO and I've never liked the OS. If you have a Mac good for you, but stop thinking they are so superior to PC's. I just wanted to say that.

Hey, Hey, I pay extra so I can be entitled to a sense of smug superiority.

Well, Apple doesn't make the actual video panel. They buy them from other companies. For years the Dell 240X has been the same panel as the ones used by Macs (of the same size) (btw - these were made by Phillips). The only difference may be the electronic processing of the signal.

But the panels themselves are the identical ones as other manufacturers supply, if you are willing to figure out which is which.
