You may not be a hypocrite but you are ignorant! What about the people they wake up who may work weird shifts, or the people they bug for weeks & weeks even after saying no?
I don't care if they only waste two seconds of my life, but when they wake me up and I tell them that, why do they keep coming back? Just because they have a weak religion that you have to sell people on is not my problem, maybe they should be a little bit more considerate to others. Last time I promised them I would be bringing out my paintball gun....I have not seen them since.
Is that what it has to get down to, to get rid of those useless people? Sad.

And you think I'm ignorant?
Personally, the last time I spoke with a Mormon missionary, I was polite but challenged them to consider doing something for the betterment of the community they are doing missionary work in, such as volunteering at the Mustard Seed or organizing a collection drive for the food bank.
Does that sound like a more respectful way to interact with others, or do you prefer to get in a good sleep and not waste your time helping "useless" people?

The problem is there is only so much time in a day..I finally got rid of the Jehovah"s Witnesses by telling them I was in an organization that deprogams religious cultists and that I felt they are a religious cult. I just found that if you're too nice to them they just see it as a potential way in...you cant convince someone like a JW to just go work in the soup kitchen..It's too bad because they seem like such sweet people and aside from perhaps some Orthodox Jews that I've known for years I've never met another group of people who seem to follow their religion as closely as the JWs do.

I scared the hell out of my family when I picked up the Satanic bible from a book store downtown and started reading it.
There is no real such thing as a good Satanist, when you put yourself and your path of "enlightenment" over all others, and you use revenge to subjugate all others its evil. In its purest form.

How are they helping anyone? They could spend their time doing better things for the community then annoying the neighborhood.
I tried polite and it didn't work so I tried a harsher tactic and it worked. Just like another poster said, it is almost like if you are polite in telling them to go away they see it as a weakness to keep on knocking week after week.
How is me getting up and answering the door helping people?

I've seen multiple threads closed and posts 'mod-edited' because the content has strayed too far from the subject title. To say that the discussion goes where it will may be true. But it's always at least somewhat regulated. Hate speech, unfounded speculation on Flames' players personal lives, and poster insults are all examples that I can think of that require the invisible hand of CP moderation. So maybe it's a matter of degree... maybe what it is, is that nothing here is all *that* bad... and fair enough. I agree.

Keep in mind when it comes to "straying off topic" more leeway is given on the o/t board, then on the hockey board.
To put it another way - if we had just closed the thread when requested a pretty interesting discussion would not have happened.

I was infering that if you thought Mormons were useless, then you might also feel that the homeless are useless too.
Here's a question to all: If "spreading the word" is an important facet of religious beliefs of JW's and Mormons, then aren't we disrespecting or belittling their beliefs by acting rude to them when they ring our doorbells?
According to Hoot, it's OK to be rude because they are annoying, and missdpuck feels it's justified in order to save time. Any other opinions?
I guess that, since I do go to church on Sunday, I would be a hypocrite to be rude to JW's and Mormons since Jesus did say to love your neighbour and to forgive others, etc. No common sense in my stupid religion. Why should I treat people with respect? After all, there IS no proof that God exists...

Anyways, one of my really good friends is a Wiccan. She's really down to earth and it's fun talking to her about her faith. I read the wiki on it and it sounds interesting.

Well for one I have NO problem with them spreading the word of their religion that is great, my beef is when they consistently come to my door every Saturday at 9am week after week. All this after telling them I am not interested and if I was I would ask my uncle or one of my best friends.
They should not need to put on the hard sell for their religion like they do IMO. Or maybe they should take notes on what houses they have asked them never to come back, the ones that seemed semi interested and then the ones that are interested. But no instead they give their religion a bad name by bugging people until they want to snap.
If I saw them once a year or maybe even 6 months I would not have any complaints, it is the constant battle of telling them to go away week after week after week!
As to your point about respecting their religion, I could give a flying fata about their religion or what kind of respect they want. It is my property, it is my doorbell, it is my time they are wasting. It is my right to be rude when they are coming over to my house unannounced and ruining my sleep or time with my family/friends.
I am curious what God has to do with respect?

Read through this thread again. If you still don't get it, then I'll explain by using small words and typing really slow so you understand what I was refering to.

Seriously they come to your door every Saturday? That's nuts. Can you put up a sign?
Or maybe find the nearest Mormon church or stake in the phonebook and call 'em up and ask them to call off their dogs.

Yes they came 4 out of 5 weekends once time. I honestly think it was because I was being to nice in telling them I wasn't interested.
I actually think the killer was me mentioning my uncle and friend were Mormon and if I had interest I would speak to them. They may have taken this as, he is kinda interested, so they continued to come.
Every time I got a little ruder before I finally snapped because I had gotten home from a late night, around 5am, and they come around at 9am knocking away.
They have not been by since waking the bear so things are all good. I just have a hard time feeling sorry for them when people are rude when they don't listen the first time. It was very frustrating!
I have no problem with what they are doing, just how they are doing it. But I feel a little sorry for the next two that come to my door

I put a "no soliciting" sign up and it was useless. The only thing that worked was the cult deprogrammer spiel. I was actually involved with something like that, but in a sense it was sort of a cult in itself. So I wasnt being rude, contrary to what another poster thinks. What are you supposed to do? There is tolerance and there is masochism, FGS. It's worse than being pursued by someone you don't want to date...sometimes you've just got to let the axe fall . They actually ended up putting my address on some kind of blacklist.

I think that anyone who believes in some other force than their own force is a sign of weakness. Come on....? Why does most of the humans start to go to church just when they are near 70-80? Only because they think that there is some kind of "wonderland" waiting them after they have lived all their wasted years, They are just afraid of the dark.
Sorry if I have again messed up with the "great" English language, but my message is: If you rely your few years on this planet on someone else hands than yourself, you are just weak. Just like I feel when I am having a hangover, whether is first, second or third day in it, I feel like " I wish there would be some greater force leading my path to the right way, away from alcohol and towards some hot-ass chick" - but there isn't I have to do it all by myself, like everything else in this world.

Well I'd have to fly to Alberta too as I am in South Florida..I'll have to PM you about what happened with him and the Florida Panthers. I felt so bad for him. A lot of people did not renew their season tickets due to his departure..we are Olli cultists and Olli was God. He is much loved by the large Finnish community around here..in fact there is a Suomi Talo not 5 minutes from my house
