Pardon me. They play Oregon this Thursday. I was looking at Oregon's website when I posted that. Well, take it easy on us in December (1st).

I thought a conference championship was for conferences with 12 teams and two divisions? I guess you could have it - the top 2 teams play a game a week after the regular season. It would help declare a champion, give more credibility and shorten the gap between the last game (early December) and the Bowl championship series (early January).

I'd love to see BYU, BSU, Hawaii or anyone else who thinks they should be a NC join the PAC10. Expands the coverage of the conference and more mid majors get to taste tier one ball.

I think Boise State is the long shot because they are a pretty one dimensional school (football... for about 3 years). Hawaii and BYU would be interesting (especially BYU).

I wonder if either school has any interest in joining the Pac-10 or if the Pac-10 is interested in becoming the Pac-12 (not like the Big 10 with 11 teams ).

well, it wouldn't be unprecidented for the pac 10 to expend by allowing in teams from the WAC. i do believe that's how both or your teams joined the old pac-8.

I'd like to see BYU and Utah the more I think about it. Builds in a natural rivalry. Only problem is that going to PAC10 bowl games would become a little more boring. They travel well, but the bowls aren't as fun because they all go to bed at 9pm.

I went to a bowl game with Utah and Pitt, which was one of the worst ever, because Pitt doesn't travel and Utah fans don't drink.

After looking at the rankings I think Oregon is screwed. I think whoever wins the BigXII game will bump them.

I'm not a huge BCS honk, I do think an "and 1" is the way to go, because no matter someone is going to get screwed here, and my guess is it's going to be Oregon, which isn't fair since they beat most teams handily while LSU squeaked out a few wins (The bcs doesn't factor in margin of victory as far as I know).

Oregon may very well get bumped, but that's the deal. Win out and you can expect to play in the championship, lose a game and you roll the dice.

Nope, it doesn't, but it's interesting you bring it up. Jeff Sagarin's site uses two ranking systems. One is his ELO-Chess, which he describes as "politically correct" in that it doesn't consider margin of victory. This is one of the six rankings used in the BCS. Sagarin has a second ranking system, which is pure-points, in which only the margin matters. Sagarin himself describes this pure-points system as the single most accurate indicator of future games. Using the politically correct system, Sagarin ranks them Kansas, LSU, then Oregon. Using pure-points, they're ranked Oregon, LSU, Kansas, with Oregon ahead by a wide margin.

So while the BCS doesn't factor in margin of victory, the computer system that one of their own rankers labels as being more accurate is purely based on margin, and that one favours Oregon. I'd like to see the BCS modified to include both ranking methodologies.

It used to, in fact the ranking system has had quite a few tweaks to it, all dumb but done to appease the masses who don't understand the model.

Over time it has evolved to reduce then remove margin of victory, it has monkeyed around with how the strength of schedule works, and it has taken less consideration of the models and more consideration of the polls.

Well, anything less than a miracle comeback now is going to end Oregon's chances...

It's as if the whole world is unfolding, simply for the benefit of the University of Kansas ... Football team.

It will be interesting, I think Missori, Oklahoma and Kansas will all knock each other out. Then what? If LSU wins out they are #1 but then who?

That's impossible.

One of those 3 teams will end up in the discussion.

Missouri or Kansas will lose in 2 weeks. The winner plays OU (assuming OU wins the South). The winner of that game will have not lost a game between now and then.

KU will not lose to Iowa State and Missouri will not lose to Kansas State.

Unless LSU loses to Arkansas or in the SEC championship game which is still very possible.

LSU has had some games already this year that they were lucky to win so they are certainly not a lock yet.

I would have said that Michigan and Minnesota losing to Div II teams is impossible

I would have said Navy beating ND is impossible

I would have said that 5 #2's losing to unranked teams is impossible

I would have said that Stanford team without its QB beating USC is impossible

And I would have said that Kentucky beating LSU is impossible ... in football anyway.

This is one year I would think twice about calling anything impossible.

All we need is Oklahoma to lose to either TTech or it's rival OK state, then win the Big XII to cancel out the entire conference from NC consideration.

And actually, that's much more likely to happen than either Kansas or Missouri crapping the bed before that game. Good point. Tech and OSU are worlds better than ISU and KSU.
