This is a great trade for MIN.
It's also a really good trade for VAN, all things considered. And maybe Buium turns into a star. But Hughes might be the best player VAN has ever had, and he's 26.
A for MIN, and B for VAN, IMO

I think some of you are under estimatimg Hughes due to Vancouver being a tire fire...he is right there with Makar. Vancouver did fine under the circumstances but they did not win anything here. Best dman they have ever had by a mile.

Good deal for Vancouver given the circumstance. Whose next on their chopping block?

And to take this a bit further, he’s the best UFA Defensemen, teams looking for long term solutions for RHD have very few options

D man, sure. Player overall? Don't know if he's top 5. That's a fun debate to have.

Given that their hand was forced, I think Vancouver gets an A+. You can’t get a better haul than they got.

Bure probably better talent wise. The Sedins had more personal accolades and did more for the team, albeit over a much longer stretch of time.
You could make the case though. Definitely the best defence man ever.

I like it for both teams. Wild will be able to recoup some stuff if he doesn’t re-sign but good on them for a getting a star. They are Flames-esque and always grinding.

Minnesota has two years to go win a cup. They made this trade with that in mind. If he re-signs that's a cherry on top, but they aren't planning for year three right now.

Agree with the general consensus that the haul is solid, but that Minnesota clearly wins the trade, as long as they re-sign Hughes.
This is an embarrassing day for Vancouver fans and a stain on the franchise.
Worse, they'll probably flip the first rounder for a vet or something to try to look competitive.

Great deal for both sides, but Wild are taking a huge risk here.
Hopefully this injects some life into Vancouver too. I bet they flip that first round pick for another piece to help them now. I bet Vancouver digs out a little now, though I guess you can argue that losing Hughes will be a bigger hit in the locker room, and deflate that team. I guess we will see.
I like this for the Flames. I think Vancouver does get some energy out of this and climbs out of the basement. I also LOVE how much they got for Hughes, and how that's out of the way now. Best defencemen on the market right now is Andersson.

Ya, kinda surprising that the Canucks did not get more given how good of a player that Hughes is. Guess they were kinda backed into a corner which reduced the return, which kinda happens most of the time you are trading the best player.
What the Flames got back from Markstrom was better than Rossi and Ohgren.
And I suspect what the Flames end up getting back for Andersson will be close to the equivalent of the 29th overall pick and Beuim.
I like Rossi but if you are a Canucks fan you sure are hoping that some of those magic beans turn into something.

I think it is a great trade for Van, considering the circumstances.
I think they needed some depth up front immediately.
I also think that Buium will be an elite D in the league (I was super frustrated when the Flames took Parekh over him), and now it will really sting.
[As for why the Flames didn't take him, there was speculation on the board that he didn't want to be in Canada, but many in the media (& even our own Dissentower) had insight that this was not the case. I believe the Flames just saw a high profile American as a potential risk and decided to avoid it. ]
Two positives for the Flames:
1) I think the Canucks actually improve in the standings due to the additional depth
2) Rasmus is now the top D available

So I have no way of confirming this, but I'll rumour monger for you people. Pettersson had been asked if he has any interest in waiving but that went on the back burner with his injury and wife's miscarriage.
It looks like they may actually just burn this all to the ground.

I love this trade for the Canucks. Zeev Buium is a fantastic young defenceman. His numbers as a teenager, in the NCHC were incredible. My hot take is Buium will have a better career than Hughes. To get Buium and 3 other valuable pieces is absolutely outstanding.

lol you will be disappointed , Andersson is not going to fetch a Buium level prospect. Quinn Hughes is a 26 yrs old superstar.
Andersson is not close to him
