That's highway robbery by the Canucks. Even if Hughes stays the Wild paid too much.

Term a big factor here. Just two years of Hughes, while the guys coming back are all young and locked-in for a while.

Maybe Canucks will give him a boatload of ice time and that may change his mind.

If that’s the case Vancouver will probably flip him

Meanwhile all the Flames have to do is trade a 2nd round pick for negotiation rights to Makar.

Massive haul for 18 months of control. If he walks this will look terrible for the wild. I think the nucks are actually close to better now as well too with how badly they needed a decent center.

Hopefully bodes well for the d market and potential price for andersson even though Hughes is obviously more dynamic and has a longer deal

All this meanwhile you have a goof like Conroy and co hanging on to Andersson like he’s a better player than Hughes. Hilarity.

I dont think you can rip the flames for holding andersson in this context as its not the exact same market.

But it does give you a rough look at what the return for tkachuk could have been if they went for younger players instead of veterans

It wasn’t a Canada thing. His agent just had certain teams he didn’t want his client in. Vancouver is a lot closer to his San Diego home and a lot nicer than Minneapolis

Gotta respect a GM understanding that his core is as good as it's going to get and pushing his chips into the middle to give them a shot. Who knows if this is enough to get by some of the killers in the division but that back end is looking nice.

Hughes - Faber
Brodin - Spurgeon
Middleton/Hunt - Bogosian

Gustavsson
Wallstedt

Need to go find themselves a centre somehow now.

This will not end well for the Wild as I don’t think he extends there even for Kaprizov money.

Solid return for Van
