A trade like this certainly emphasizes the mistakes the Flames made that summer.

Canucks making a huge commitment to a rebuild when they had a guy like Hughes on the roster. Hard to imagine the Flames making a commitment like that in a similar scenario.

Isn't he from San Diego? Vancouver is 500 km closer. Only thing his family has to worry about now is going through customs.

It's not often you see the second best dman in the league dealt midseason. Ridiculous that this actually happened. Wow

Even a broken clock is right…

If the Wild don’t resign him, it’s an absolute fleecing.

Better return than I expected for VAN, so I'll give them that.

But at the end of the day, the best player is Hughes. This is a huge trade for MIN, and their D core now is insane. Add that to Kaprisov and Boldy up front and Wallstedt in net.

What. A. Core.

Maybe Buium becomes a star. Rossi is good, but not elite. A late 1st and a throw in. As I said, more than I expected VAN to get because Buium is a good piece, but they still lose the trade, as they were going to do, no matter what.

You’re right. I forgot to mention how they’re clinging on to fading vets and letting these vets dictate them on how they should proceed with millions of dollars of assets.

The Flames are a family business after all right?

This also makes Minnesota more legit this year and next, another team that can keep Edmonton down.

With this trade, the 3 best teams in the league are, IMO:

COL
MIN
DAL

How does WPG feel right now?

So the Canucks can trade one of the best dmen in the league with no hesitation and get an amazing return to kick start a rebuild.

Why are we so scared to put vet players on the market? It is so frustrating. This also completely destroys the myth that good returns only happen at the trade deadline.

That’s an insanely good haul for the Canucks.

Having said that, I am disheartened to see another American star leave a Canadian team.

This isn't remotely true, it wasn't the first time it was claimed and it isn't now 10,000 times later.

Apples and oranges, One is 26 and second best Dman in league. If you put him on market expect alot of phone calls.

Quinn Hughes is the 2nd or 3rd best defenseman in the league, and probably top 10 or 15 players overall. Players like that simply don't become available. And when they do, everything else is going to get put on hold until it's dealt with.

Try to understand context, instead of just trying to make out to be a negative for the Flames

If this particular Canadian team hadn't been a back room tire fire for the last 12 months, I don't think he would have left.

Buium + 3 other assets for a rental Hughes?

Iggy or Desnoyers to us for Andersson rental next, please. (and whatever pieces need to be included on either side to get it done).

Wow the central is stacked. 4 Norris trophy winners and 8 of the last 12 nominees. Doesn’t even count Heiskanen who is probably a top 5 defender.

Hughes has been in trade rumors for months, just like Flames players. And just like Conroy, Allvin waited until an offer blew him away. You have no idea what conversations are ongoing or have happened. There was also zero speculation of Hughes to the Wild until it was announced, so again you're creating a false narrative just to be frustrated, its insanity.

Yeah, this isn't an 'American leaving a Cdn team' thing, it's a 'I'm in the prime of my career, and VAN has turned into a tire fire and is starting another rebuild' thing
