As of last week Friedman reported Hughes wasn’t available.
Maybe we don’t know everything we pretend to know about what goes on behind the scenes all the time.

I'm saying if there was a lottery protected 1st offered for Andersson, he'd be traded.
That's what I'm saying.

Why are we so scared to put vet players on the market? It is so frustrating. This also completely destroys the myth that good returns only happen at the trade deadline.

Sigh...you think they are comparable at all?

I know for a fact that is incorrect.

In retrospective I agree
I don’t think it would have approached this haul though
Likely Necas, a first and a dman

They do have contract options available to Hughes that other teams can not offer. Money talks. If there is no progress on contract talks in the summer, they can still recoup some assets back, or maybe just go all in again next year. If I was a Wild fan I would be happy.

I think it's a huge trade for MIN - they just elevated their core from decent to great. And pretty young too
Kaprisov 28
Boldy 24
EE 28
Hughes 26
Faber 23
Wallstedt 23
I also think VAN did as well as they could have hoped, so it's a great trade.

Hughes is the best dman in franchise history, probably #2 in the entire league and in his prime. Its not comparable at all.

No way Andersson returns an Iggy or Desnoyers, although his trade value is high.
You don't get an elite prospect without trading an elite piece with multiple years left.

You guys were here a few years back when we did the Tkachuk to Florida sign and trade, right? Is there a reason we can't do the same with Andersson (provided he agrees to the destination, etc etc etc etc etc)?

It's not comparable in the sense of the return you'd expect.
But if this was the Flames I'd almost guarantee they wouldn't have acted as quick. They would have spent the rest of the season trying to convince Hughes to stay, then maybe traded him in the offseason.

I think you are right. I couldn’t remember the dman.
And likely a second tier prospect of some sort
According to Lebrun these were the teams on this list (from the athletic)
“The Flames investigated the market for Tkachuk, based on the list of teams they got from the player’s reps at Newport Sports, which included the Blues, Avalanche, Lightning, Golden Knights, Hurricanes and, of course, Panthers.
The Stanley Cup finalists, Tampa Bay and Colorado, were never logical options for cap and roster reasons.
So the list got cut down in a hurry.”

Hughes / Andersson are absolutely not comparable.
But Hughes has been traded, and he doesn't matter anymore... because Andersson is now the #1 available defenceman on the market.

Andersson is no Hughes but he has to get a 1st and A level prospect at this point easily if they can do a sign and trade. No shot it’s less than that. Top pair point producing RHD don’t grow on trees. Teams that missed out on Hughes can rejig their packages. He’s better than Carlo. I don’t see how it could be less.
