The one year I got the flu shot I came down with the flu. First time I had the flu in decades. Stopped getting the flu shot and haven’t had the flu since.
Probably what the edmonton elks players are thinking.
Well this is a first that I've seen. Not only did he do the research, he completed a scientific study! With a sample size of 1, his results are 100%. Time to go home folks, flu vaccine science has been settled. If only we could all do science with such rigor.

Why is it that if YOU have your jab, and are fully vaccinated, MY not having it is putting you at risk? Isn't it me who should be worried? Why so much fear of secret unvaxxed great unwashed types in the Dome that has you guys so afraid to go unless you get a sweeping ban to validate the decision that YOU made? If the thing works, shouldn't it not matter?
I don't want to get into an argument about the policy of enforcing vaccinations (for the record I believe private business can do what they want, but I think Gov't mandates could be an overreach), however this line of thinking is extremely common among those refusing the vaccination. It shows a complete lack of understanding of this pandemic - and at this point that seems inexcusable. The main reason to get vaccinated is to slow or stop the spread of this virus so that our healthcare system is not under constant danger of collapse. In simpler terms, I care if you get vaccinated because if I or someone I love needs an ICU bed and can't get one because they are full of unvaccinated COVID patients, then it does affect me.

Exactly but unfortunately that’s not how many people on both sides of this debate on this forum think.
I am just here for hockey but I find this thread hilarious and sad sometimes.

Just wanted to thank the Mods for allowing this absolute 100% train wreck of a thread continue to roll forward. Was able to kill a couple hours during this work day reading this epic mess!
I've quite enjoyed it too, as mad as some of the posts made me.
My only problem with making everyone have a vaccine to enter the sporting event is the fact the players don't have to be vaccinated to participate in the sporting event.
The CFL and CFLPA should get off their asses and make it mandatory to have the vaccine, or to have a negative rapid test every morning (at the players own cost)
there. problem solved and you're not forcing vaccines on the players. they have a choice.

It isn’t government over reach either.
It is actually governing 101 doing what private businesses can not.
That being… Establishing consistent, standardized, organized, and transparent proof of vaccination across a jurisdiction so it’s not a random sporadic mess.
But this is only if a person wants somewhat competent governance that has the political fortitude to do what is right and keep children safe.
First off I am NOT anti-vax. I wanted to get the AZ the second I was eligible. BUT!! I also have an immune-compromised system (thanks Chrons/UC) and was told by my doctor to not get the shots until he lets me know to do so. I talk with him every week and harass him can I go now? To date the answer is still no. SO I am unvaccinated. I also very rarely leave home now as I do not want to be a part of the issue going forward.
All that being said I fully support this move by CSEC and the NHL in general. DO I want to see the Flames at the Dome? Of course I do. Am I willing to stay home to not cause any further spreads as I am a vector for such until such time as my GI doc says I can get vaccinated? Also yes. It sucks major Donkey Choade for me, but such is the way of life when you put the health and well fare of others ahead of being a self centered entitled POS.
Also I would like for everyone to stop lumping those of us who can not have the vaccine with the Anti Vax idiots. If I could I already would have, believe you me. Not everyone is doing that, but I have seen enough people assuming that unvaxed = Antivax and that simply isn't true.
I’m not sure what you are referring to as UC, or what else you have related to Chrons, but who is your Dr.?
The Chrons and Colitis Society of Canada is recommending vaccines. I get that it’s a personal decision, but I imagine they are recommending vaccination because consequences of Covid are so much worse.

My daughter has UC and was told by her doctor to get the vaccine as soon as possible. Is there a reason for yours saying to wait?
cross posting from the Covid thread, just in case people here might miss it.
A must read from an ER doc, for anyone still, somehow, on the fence about getting vaccinated.
Quote:
My patient died nine days later from a fatal stroke. We, the care team, reconciled this loss by telling ourselves: He made a personal choice not to get vaccinated, not to protect himself or his family. We did everything we could with what we had to save him. This year, this tragedy, this unnecessary, entirely preventable loss, was on him.
The burden of this pandemic now rests on the shoulders of the unvaccinated. On those who are eligible to get vaccinated, but choose not to, a decision they defend by declaring, “vaccination is a deeply personal choice.” But perhaps never in history has anyone’s personal choice impacted the world as a whole as it does right now. When hundreds and thousands of people continue to die, when the most vulnerable members of society, our children, cannot be vaccinated — the luxury of choice ceases to exist.
If you believe the pandemic is almost over and you can ride it out, without getting vaccinated, you could not be more wrong. This virus will find you.

Yeah I have more than just Colitis, and I also have had to deal with blood clots a few times. I'm not going to divulge my full medical history but yeah I REALLY want the vaccine, but only when my doc says I am good to go. No need to put me into the hospital when so many others will need those beds.

I don't think that is governing 101, there are some obvious flaws in that logic (private business can't send dissidents to the Gulag, for example). I struggle with allowing the government to mandate something like this, even though I agree with the premise that everyone should be vaccinated. The fact is, mRNA vaccine technology is new, the long term effects are unknown and can't be known at this time. People have different risk tolerances and if I were to put myself in the shoes of someone who is hesitant to take this particular vaccine because they are unsure of the technology, I would definitely feel like my rights were being violated... I guess I don't see the argument as simply idiot anti-vaxxers on one side (trust me, I know there are plenty of those) vs. Righteous vaxxers on the other... lots of valid opinions out there.

Two things are true:
(1) No vaccine has ever had side effects emerge beyond 3 months following a shot
(2) The long term effects are also unknown (but also starting to come out as quite dangerous) for those who have had Covid
What it is, is mitigating risk, protecting others around you and putting an end to this pandemic.

But neither of these statements are facts. mRNA technology has been around for decades. The vaccine is the first approved, but to say it is new technology completely ignores the work that has been done since the 1980s to get us to this point. As for long term side effects, we can also confidently say that any that would emerge, have emerged. Historically, long-term side effects show up within the first couple of months and there is nothing special about mRNA vaccines that would make them any different. People have had the vaccine for well over a year now. If it were to occur, even in rare circumstances, we would know about it.
Sorry, I disagree that there are “valid opinions on both sides.” There aren’t. Even suggesting people who refuse to get the vaccine have valid opinions is stupid, and you ought to know better. There is no valid reason for those who can get the vaccine, not to. It’s as simple as that. And the more you baby these people the longer they believe they’re special and valid.

Should the government still be required to financially support the non vaxxed people? Im sure many many of these people gladly opened their arms to accept free $$, and now wont take the next step to ensuring a fully reopened economy and functioning society because... freedom?
Always makes me laugh the people who want to government to stay out of their business unless they need help. It's like a spoiled child who only comes home begging mommy and daddy for money every 12 months but other then that hates them and doesnt want them in their lives.
Anyone not getting vaxxed who is eligible should be forced to return every penny to the taxpayers they received in COVID relief and immediately have any COVID government benefits stopped.
If you can financially support yourself and want the government to F off with mandates, You'll still be an idiot - But at least a non hypocritical idiot - and I can at least respect that.
And every private business should have the right to refuse service. If private businesses want to be anti-vax friendly they should have the right, but I wouldn't expect many too be.

Straw man. "Less popular" is not the same as "deliberately false and misleading". You are legitimizing these lies by providing a platform for their dissemination, and you are not encouraging debate, you are just allowing it to be poisoned.
Then leave.
Honestly I've had it.
I'm sticking up for my moderating team because people like yourself put them in a tough position of having to fact check everything. This idea, and honestly I see it in every topic on this site, that any one person gets to know what is right and wrong or fact or false information and that others have to act exactly as they wish is getting insane.
I personally think everyone did a great job of proving that a lot of the stuff wasn't true with links that they already had, saving a volunteer from spending hours of their free time reading and searching in order to come to the same conclusion.
We have a great moderation team. Always have. They react quickly to things that are clearly over the line and always will. But expecting swift action in a grey area is not what this site is about.
Honestly a little tired of getting the web site and my character questioned.
