Team Idiot Box, after much deliberation, is proud to select in the category of Action/Adventure, Bones (http://www.fox.com/bones/). Another pick where there may be objections. I think it fits there, but if there are enough complaints I can move it around.

Anyways, Bones... Awesome show. Temperance Brennan, a brilliant forensix anthropologist, often called Bones, hence the title of the show. Agent Seeley Booth recruits her to help him solve crimes. His people/street smarts and her scientific mind are a great combo for solving crimes. I am not doing the show justice, in fact, I am making it sound kinda stupid, but it's a really great show.

I never used to like David Boreanez back in his Buffy/Angel days, but I love him on this show. He and Emily Deschanel are great together, it really makes the show enjoyable.

***Now, I have to point out I haven't watched past season two yet. I lost track of season three because of hockey and then the dvd only just recently came out and I have been told not to buy it because of Christmas so I gotta wait. So, if there is any discussion about anything post season two, maybe do the spoilers in white type dealie. I would appreciate that greatly.***

First off, I will move SNL from Comedy (Open) to the Pre-80 category.

The Don Lapre Appreciation Society selects in the COMEDY (open) category, the other Judd Apatow created cult TV series,
Undeclared (2001)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0273028/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0273028/)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undeclared

http://members.shaw.ca/windomurl/Undeclared.jpg

-from Wikipedia:
Undeclared is an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) television series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_series) that aired on Fox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Broadcasting_Company) during the 2001–2002 TV season. The half-hour comedy-drama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy-drama)/sitcom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitcom) was Judd Apatow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judd_Apatow)'s follow-up to the TV cult classic Freaks and Geeks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freaks_and_Geeks), which also lasted for one season. Undeclared centered on a group of college freshmen at the fictitious University of North Eastern California. Unlike Freaks, it was set in the current time of the early 2000s rather than the 1980s. It gave a humorous look at the highs and lows of college life, from young adult relationships to the dreaded freshman fifteen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freshman_fifteen). It takes its name from the status of an undergraduate who has not yet decided, or "declared", a specific major of study they wish to take. This half-hour comedy-drama likely would have done better ratings-wise if not for constant preemptions and juggling of the time slot. Surprise, surprise. We're talking Fox here.

Two members of the Freaks & Geeks cast were brought back as regular castmembers for this series---Seth Rogen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seth_Rogen) and Jason Segel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Segel) ("How I Met Your Mother" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460649/), "Knocked Up (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478311/)", "Forgetting Sarah Marshall (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800039/)").

Other members of the cast include Jay Baruchel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Baruchel) (as Steven Karp), Carla Gallo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carla_Gallo) (the porn actress in this season of Californication), Charlie Hunnam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Hunnam), Monica Keena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monica_Keena) ("Entourage"), Timm Sharp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timm_Sharp), and musician Loudon Wainwright III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudon_Wainwright_III) as
Steven's recently divorced dad Hal Karp.

Guest stars included Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Fred Willard, Ted Nugent, Ben Stiller, Jenna Fischer, and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D --- all favorites of mine.

The opening theme of the show is called "Solid" by The Dandy Warhols (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dandy_Warhols).

If you like the Apatow movies, this is well worth checking out.

Lots on Youtube. You could almost watch the whole series ;)

The Infomercial Kings are very proud to choose in the Action category Knight Rider

http://pplongstocking.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/knightrider.jpg

Aside from having one of the coolest cars in the history of TV, it also brought us the Hoff! I remember watching this show as a kid and thinking this is greatest thing ever and the Hoff is the coolest man on the face of the earth.

Self-made billionaire Wilton Knight rescues police detective Michael Long after a near fatal shot to the face, giving him a new identity (via plastic surgery) and a new name: Michael Knight. Wilton selects Michael to be the muscle in the pilot program of his Knight Foundation-funded public justice organization, the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG). The other half of this pilot program is the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT), a Pontiac Trans Am controlled by a computer with artificial intelligence. Michael and KITT are brought in during situations where "direct action might provide the only feasible solution."
Heading FLAG is Devon Miles, who provides Michael with directives and guidance. Dr. Bonnie Barstow is the chief engineer in charge of KITT's care, as well as technical assistant to Devon.

"Hi Bob."

Alright, I'm going to go off the board a bit here with my next pick. Let me preface this by saying that because I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, I don't watch a lot of medical shows, and the ones I do watch are usually comedies (Scrubs, Doogie Howser, etc.), and most of the ones I have watched have already been picked.

Then it occurred to me...If the main character of a show has the title of "Doctor" and he spends a significant percentage of the episodes at his office, with his patients, it should fall into the category of "Medical"...Right?

So, using that logic, and realizing that this show is somehow still available...Frozen TV Dinner is very pleased to select, in the Medical category, from MTM Enterprises, and the CBS Television network: The Bob Newhart Show.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c2/The_Bob_Newhart_Show.jpg/225px-The_Bob_Newhart_Show.jpg

The Bob Newhart Show aired on CBS from 1972 to 1978 and starred (obviously) Bob Newhart as Dr. Bob Hartley, a Chicago psychologist with an eclectic and erratic group of patients.

Hartley's office was in a Chicago medical center. He shared a floor and receptionist (played by the voice of Bart Simpson's teacher - Marcia Wallace) with orthodontist Jerry Robinson (Peter Bonerz).

Bob's home life revolved around his wife Emily (Suzanne Pleshette), and their neighbor Howard (Bill Daily).

Bob Newhart's comedic style has always been that of an everyman caught in situations with oddball characters and this show gave him the perfect showcase. Much of Newhart's early comedy was based around the concept of the audience hearing only Newhart's reaction to something that someone else was doing, often in the form of a telephone conversation where we can only hear Bob's side of the conversation. With the Bob Newhart Show, we finally got to see the people on the other side of the phone (or sitting on the psychologist's couch in this case).

Unfortunately, YouTube is greatly lacking in clips from the show. Entire episodes are available on Hulu.com, but unfortunately, they're not available in Canada.

http://i34.tinypic.com/291p30n.jpg proudly select from the Reality (Elimination)......a little off the board Canadian production on the OLN Network. A show i just can't get enough of http://forum.calgarypuck.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

"Mantracker"

http://i34.tinypic.com/35n4par.jpg

"Two people take off into the bush with a map, a compass and a head start. The tracker is on horseback, armed with a local guide and an arsenal of forensic skills. The prey have 36 hours to reach a finish line some 40 kilometers away without getting caught. How they escape is up to them.

This season covers terrain from the Maritimes to the prairie Badlands to the Coast Mountains of Northern BC and Mantracker is counting on his sidekicks to guide him through it. The prey may know each other going into the chase, but will the pressure of being hunted cement their bonds or destroy their relationships?
The prey are looking for glory. Mantracker is looking for them."

Bomus trivia: I played golf with Mantracker this past summer.

I picked this episode below as Dustin and Ian are one of the few to beat Mantracker. This is the other reality show that i watch religiously.

"Don't Panic!"

WTR? are happy to pick, in mini series for now, the 1981 BBC series:

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Not to be confused with the crappy film this was a pretty good adaptation of Adams superb novel.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b4/Hitchhikers_Guide_TV_Titles.jpg/240px-Hitchhikers_Guide_TV_Titles.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hitchhikers_Guide_TV_Titles.jpg)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_%28TV_serie s%29#cite_note-0) was a BBC television adaptation of Douglas Adams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Adams)'s The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy) broadcast in January and February 1981 on BBC Two (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Two). The adaptation followed the original radio series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_%28radio_se ries%29) in 1978 and 1980, the first novel and double LP, in 1979, and the stage shows (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy#Stage_shows ), in 1979 and 1980, making it the fifth version of the guide.

The series starred Simon Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Jones_%28actor%29) as Arthur Dent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Dent), David Dixon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Dixon) as Ford Prefect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Prefect_%28character%29), Mark Wing-Davey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Wing-Davey) as Zaphod Beeblebrox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaphod_Beeblebrox) and Sandra Dickinson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandra_Dickinson) as Trillian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trillian_%28character%29). The voice of the guide was by Peter Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Jones). Simon Jones, Peter Jones and Mark Wing-Davey all reprised their roles from the radio series. In addition, the series saw a number of notable cameo roles, including Adams himself on several occasions.

Vic Mackey and the Strike Team are proud to select, with the overwhelming approval of Shane Vendrell aka Cletus Van Damme, in the category of Action/Adventure The Dukes of Hazzard!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078607/

This show ran in a time period that was perfect for me to love it. I was 8 when it debuted. I loved fast cars and short shorts were starting to make an impact!

The show had a uniqueness to it despite it's generic story lines week after week. Criminals come to Hazzard (small town Georgia must be a really good target), Duke boys get into trouble, Duke boys sniff out criminals, Duke boys chase criminals while being chased by Roscoe. Duke boys catch and expose criminals everyone celebrates. It was almost Scooby Doo like in it's plotting, but it worked!

The characters were fun and well played. Bo and Luke Duke were definitely not the same guy and Wopat and Schneider did a good job of playing the characters differently enough to make that stick. The supporting characters were fun and well played led by Denver Pyle's Uncle Jesse. Roscoe P. Coltrane, Boss Hogg, Cooter the mechanic and Cousin Daisy did their part to keep things fun and interesting.

Clearly, the best things about the show were the car chases and Waylon Jennings' narration which always kept the viewer interested heading into the commercial break. Definitely one of my favorite childhood shows! The movie sure sucked!

Crap so many good picks lately,
Dukes - I was going between this and Knight Rider for my last pick but the Hoff won out.
Robot Chicken - Great show, thought it was lame at first but it has grown on me.
Mantracker - Great show again, I was going to use it as my Canadian pick but thought I was safe to let it go for at least a couple more rounds.
Hitchhikers Guide - Just plain classic, nuff said.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we welcome you to
Monday night RAW!!"

http://www.kupywrestlingwallpapers.info/wallpapers/wwe-raw-15th-anniversary-wallpaper-preview.jpg

With our 10th round choice, The Channel Surfers select WWE Raw in the Wildcard category.

I had originally thought of putting this in the Reality (Ongoing) category, but figured it would be less controversial and just easier to use it in the Wildcard slot.

I haven't really watched wrestling a lot in the last few months, but you really can't argue with RAW's longevity. It's going into it's 17th year on television, which isn't something many shows can attest to. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, RAW was really the place to see cutting-edge television; something that really pushed the envelope.

from wiki:
WWE Raw is a professional wrestling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_wrestling) television program (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_program) for World Wrestling Entertainment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Wrestling_Entertainment) (WWE) that currently airs on the USA Network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_Network) in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States). The show's name, which is trademarked by WWE as RAW,[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] is also used to refer to the Raw brand, in which WWE employees are assigned to work and perform on that program; the other programs and brands are Friday Night SmackDown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Friday_Night_SmackDown) and ECW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_Championship_Wrestling_%28WWE%29). It is the only television broadcast for the Raw brand. The show originally debuted in the United States on the USA television network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_network) on January 11, 1993. It remained there until 2000, when Raw was moved to TNN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_%28TV_channel%29), later known as Spike TV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_%28TV_channel%29). In 2005, the show was moved back to the USA Network. Since its launch in 1993, Raw continues to air on Monday nights. Raw is generally seen as the company's flagship program due to its longer history and emphasis on pay-per-views.

Throughout 1997, there were more and more controversial elements in Raw and WWF programming. Memorable moments included Bret Hart swearing at the crowd after losing a steel cage match, with commentators apologizing for his behavaior, and then entering a major brawl with Sid, The Undertaker, Steve Austin, and briefly Shawn Michaels. Some of the most notable moments included the profusely intense feud with The Hart Foundation versus Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin, which saw Raw develop a memorable episode in which Michaels and Austin beat The British Bulldog and Owen Hart for the Tag Team Championship, and whilst they post match attacked Michaels, Austin attacked a disabled Bret Hart to lure them away from Michaels. Other events saw the new black street gang Nation of Domination (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation_of_Domination) formed, and Shawn Michaels D-Generation X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-Generation_X) "racial graffiti" storyline designed to "implicate Bret Hart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bret_Hart)'s 'the Hart Foundation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hart_Foundation)'", and the "XXX Files" series.
On March 10, 1997, Monday Night Raw officially became Raw is War. The March 17, 1997 episode featured a heated Bret Hart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bret_Hart)/Vince McMahon ringside altercation (that unknowingly foreshadowed events in November (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Screwjob)) with profanity normally unheard on TV.

Interesting pick FGSJ!

Team Alternate Feed selects... In the comedy open category:

http://benedict.isomedia.com/homes/lobster/images2/mstlogo.jpg

http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/article/0,28804,1651341_1659192_1652619,00.html

The series features a man and his robot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot) sidekicks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidekick) who are trapped on a satellite in space by an evil scientist and forced to watch a selection of terrible movies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Films_considered_the_worst_ever), especially (but not initially limited to) science fiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fiction) B-movies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-movies). To keep sane, the man and his robots make a running commentary on the film, making fun of its flaws and wisecracking (or "riffing") their way through the film in the style of a movie theater peanut gallery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanut_gallery). Series creator Hodgson originally played the stranded man, Joel Robinson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Robinson), for five-and-a-half seasons. When he left in 1993, series head writer Michael J. Nelson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_J._Nelson) replaced him as new B-movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-movie) victim Mike Nelson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Nelson_(MST3K)), and continued in the role for the rest of the show's run.

The format proved to be popular. During its eleven years, 198 episodes and one feature film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Science_Theater_3000:_The_Movie), MST3K attained a loyal fan base and critical acclaim. The series won a Peabody Award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peabody_Award) in 1993, and was nominated for writing Emmys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmy) in 1994 and 1995.

Several of the movies used in the MST3K series have consistently made the Internet Movie Database list of the Bottom 100 movies (http://us.imdb.com/chart/bottom) over time, including Hobgoblins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobgoblins_(film)) (1987) (episode 907), Monster A Go-Go (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_A_Go-Go) (1965) (episode 421), Manos: The Hands of Fate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manos:_The_Hands_of_Fate) (1966) (episode 424), Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlin%27s_Shop_of_Mystical_Wonders) (1995) (episode 1003), The Incredible Melting Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Melting_Man) (1977) (episode 704), and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Claus_Conquers_the_Martians) (1964) (episode 321).

Same show :P

Arguement to why it's two different shows:
- Different networks.
- Now showing two seperate rosters, with some crossover, but WWE roster is split between Raw, Smackdown, ECW.
- Shows are filmed on seperate days. Different production crews.

I wouldn't argue with someone taking Smackdown, personally. You just wont see it on my roster, that's all.

Yeah, RAW and SmackDown! are two completely different brands, with different writers, entertainers, production crews, everything. I obviously wouldn't take it anyway, but I don't think it should be excluded as a choice for someone else.

I'm actually not even a wrestling fan. I stopped really following it after Stampede Wrestling, and then the glory years of WWF with Hogan, the Warrior, Andre, etc etc.

********************************

With our tenth selection in the 2008 Calgary Puck Television Draft, we here at the Patterson Corporation are pleased to select for our lineup on our new channel MQS-TV, a cartoon that helped bring anime to North America. A show that wasn’t afraid to reuse as much footage as possible, be as cheesy as possible, and be our right ridiculous. With all respect to the minute and a half intro, and two and a half minute closing credits, there probably was only a good solid 2-3 minutes of true story line per episode, yet I had to download each episode and rewatch over and over again for my viewing pleasure. With one of the greatest TV themes in history, and staring the vocal actors of Sonja Ball, Terrence Scammell, Rick Jones, and Dean Hagopian. For our Cartoon slot, we here at MQS-TV humbly select from Tatsunoko Productions, and Sotsu Agency in Japan, distributed to Youth Television in Canada by Saban, Samuri Pizza Cats.

The Pizza Cats are Samurais and I'd like to note.
Their antics take your breath away!
Like furballs in your throat.
We kittens are a special breed. We never call retreat
Whenever Big Cheese knocks us down
We land upon (blows a kiss) our feet!
So hail to thee, O Pizza Cat! Please ring your little bell! (Speedy rings his collar bell)
Although you may be pen and ink, we know you'll fight like...
PIZZA CATS!

How about just no AK?

I could keep up. Even if it's slow, it will keep moving. In my opinion, if we take a break, most people will still be somewhat active on CP. Might as well have a few draft picks made.

What about people sending their picks in advance to you, Girly? Same rule as when a GM is going to be away, they can send their anticipated pick plus one or two alternatives. Would that create too much work, though?

The Cleveland Indian Head Test Patterns choose in the Category of Mini-Series/TV Movie,

The Long Way Round

http://www.bikernet.com/news/images/PhotoID16639.jpg

From 14 April 2004 to 29 July 2004, McGregor, Boorman, motorcycle riding cameraman Claudio von Planta and their support crew travelled from London to New York, via Western and Central Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia and Canada, for a cumulative distance of 18,887 miles (30,396 km). The only sections of the trip not undertaken by motorcycle were 580 miles (930 km) by train in Siberia, a short impassable section towards the end of their Russian journey, which was undertaken by truck, and a 2,505-mile (4,031 km) flight from Magadan in eastern Russia to Anchorage, Alaska. Upon encountering numerous swollen rivers and a serious lack of functioning bridges while travelling along the Road of Bones to Magadan, the riders got their motorbikes through some fairly deep rivers. However, the summer run-off from the Siberian winter was in full flow and after a valiant effort, the bikes eventually had to be loaded into the trucks of passing drivers and ferried across some of the worst rivers.
The journey visited twelve countries, starting in the UK, then passing through France, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, USA and Canada, ending in New York. In early episodes of the series the narration claims that they will visit 13 countries, which is consistent with a map in the book version which shows they briefly entered Kyrgystan while travelling between the Kazakh cities of Shymkent and Almaty. However, the entry into Kyrgystan is not explicitly mentioned in the text of the book or TV series and the "13 countries" reference could possibly be a mistake, perhaps because they entered Russia more than once or counted Alaska or Siberia as a separate country.
The team mainly stayed in hotels while travelling in Europe, North America and populated parts of Russia but frequently had no option but to camp after reaching Kazakhstan and Mongolia. They took time to visit a variety of sights and landmarks while travelling, including the Church of Bones in the Czech Republic, the Mask of Sorrow monument in Magadan, Russia and Mount Rushmore in the USA. They ultimately arrived in New York on schedule and rode into the city accompanied by a phalanx of bikers, including McGregor's father Jim and the Orange County Choppers crew.

For our tenth round selection, Team Sequoia is proud to select in the Game Show category, hosted by Canada's own, Monty Hall, Let's Make A Deal!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5f/Let%27s_Make_A_Deal.gif

From Wikipedia:

Each episode of Let's Make a Deal (which was billed by Jay Stewart as "The Marketplace of America") consisted of several "deals" between the host and a member or members of the audience as contestants. Audience members were picked at the host's whim as the show went along, and couples were often selected to play as "one" contestant. The "deals" were mini-games within the show that took several formats.

In the simplest format, a contestant was given a prize, and the host offered them the opportunity to trade for another prize; however, the offered prize was unknown. It might be concealed on the stage behind one of three curtains, or behind "boxes" onstage (large panels painted to look like boxes), within smaller boxes brought out to the audience, or occasionally in other formats. The initial prize given to the contestant might also be concealed, such as in a box, wallet or purse; or the player might be initially given a box or curtain. The format varied widely.

Technically, contestants were supposed to bring something to trade in, but this rule was seldom enforced. On several occasions, a contestant would actually be asked to trade in an item such as his or her shoes or purse, only to receive the item back at the end of the deal as a "prize". On at least one occasion, the purse was taken backstage and a high-valued prize was placed inside of it.

Prizes generally were either a legitimate prize, cash, or a "zonk". Legitimate prizes ran the gamut of what was given away on game shows during the era (trips, fur coats, electronics, furniture, appliances and cars). Zonks were unwanted booby prizes which could be anything from animals to large amounts of food, or something outlandish like a giant article of clothing, a room full of junked furniture, or a junked car. Sometimes zonks were legitimate prizes but of a low value such as matchbox cars, wheelbarrows, T-shirts, small food or non-food grocery prizes, etc. On the original series, zonks were often demonstrated by the show's announcer, Jay Stewart, and legitimate prizes were modeled by Carol Merrill (although Merrill, too, helped model the zonks).

Though usually considered joke prizes, contestants legally won the zonks; however, after the taping of the show, any trader who had been zonked would be offered a consolation prize instead of having to take home the actual zonk. This is partly because some of the zonks were intrinsically impossible to take delivery of: for example, if a contestant won an animal, he or she could legally insist that it be awarded to them, but chances are that the contestant did not have the means to care for it. In fact, a disclaimer at the end of the credits of later 1970s episodes read "Some traders accept reasonable duplicates of zonk prizes."

In addition, as the end credits of the show rolled, it was typical for Hall to ask random members of the studio audience to participate in fast deals. The deals were usually in the form of offering cash to one person in the audience who had a certain item on them; either offering a small cash amount each for however many the person had, or offering them cash for each time a digit occurred in the number on a dollar bill, driver's license, etc., or offering to pay the last check in the person's checkbook (up to a certain limit, usually $500 or $1,000.) if they had one. At first, there was no limit on the number of items that could be traded in, until a rumored incident occurred in which Hall offered a woman $100 for every dime she had -- whereupon she produced a roll of dimes.

It began as a fairly realistic, albeit funny, show about the goings on in a typical New York court on the night shift and transformed into something much more - a zany slapstick comedy that, if it only gave us John Larroquette, did more than most shows.

Loved this show when I was little, when it was in reruns. I was too young to catch the show when it originally aired. I always loved all the little gadgets, loved the end credits where he walks through all the vaults, and I always wanted a friggin shoe phone.

I recently purchased the first season on DVD, you can really see how PC we've become when watching it. There are lots of things in this series that would probably be censored today with regards to race depictions, etc.

I just love this show, and I have learned so much from watching Bear.

In the show, Grylls both demonstrates and narrates techniques for wilderness survival in regions around the globe, from ice fields and mountain ranges to swamps and deserts. The general format of each episode is that Grylls is dropped into the region simulating a stranded explorer/tourist. The episode documents his efforts to survive and find a way back to civilization, usually requiring an overnight shelter of some kind. Bear also tells about successful and failed survivals in the particular area he is in.

I just spent the last hour or so watching clips from the show on YouTube, and I can't believe the bawdy nature of the show, and the fact that my mother actually let me watch it as a preschooler (obviously, most of the double-entendres went over my head at the time).

For those who don't remember the show (which has had numerous revivals over the years), the premise (for the 1970s' incarnation) was simple: Gene Rayburn (with a ridiculously long and skinny microphone) was the host, and every game had 2 contestants (usually a man and a woman, but not always) whose goal was to match the answers given by the panel of six celebrity guests (usually including Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, and future Family Feud host, Richard Dawson).

The questions were short riddles or limericks containing a "BLANK" which was filled in by the contestant and celebrities. The contestant received one point for every contestant whose answer matched the one given by the contestant. The clues usually had an obvious "dirty" answer and the humour came from watching the celebrities try to come up with a "clean" answer that was still funny. Being the 70s, the show was frequently sexist and occasionally racist by today's standards.

Team Alternate Feed selects in the TV Movie category:

Stephen King's
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/96/The_Stand_cover.jpg/200px-The_Stand_cover.jpg

The miniseries closely parallels the events of King's post apocalyptic novel by the same name. A superfli devastates the United States, leaving only a few survivors. These survivors gravitate towards either the side of good or evil, driven mainly by very vivid dreams in the aftermath of the plague. The climax is a final showdown between good and evil in Las Vegas.

David E. Kelley's Emmy Award-winning legal drama, The Practice, had eight amazing seasons, with promising, provocative, issue-related stories, coupled with the writer's trademark humor.

Set in Boston, The Practice centers on a firm of passionate attorneys to whom every case is important and every client worth a fight to the end. Legal maneuvering is the firm's modus operandi, and they have it down to a science, making even the most questionable arguments convincing. And while they can't — and don't — win every trial, the pursuit of justice remains the priority until the final verdict is announced … and sometimes afterwards. Pursuing justice, however, often confronts them with serious ethical and moral issues of conscience.

The end of last season saw Bobby Donnell quitting the firm and leaving Eugene Young (Steve Harris) in charge. In the final season, we find Eugene not only tackling his new role as head of the firm, but also the new dynamic with co-workers Ellenor Frutt (Camryn Manheim), a single mom known for her fervent commitment to clients and for refusing to take "no" for an answer; Jimmy Berluti (Michael Badalucco), a hard-working "good guy" with a winning record and unparalleled loyalty to the firm; and a budding relationship with Jamie Stringer (Jessica Capshaw), a young associate recently out of law school.

In addition to returning cast members Manheim, Harris, Badalucco and Capshaw, in the final season, Kelley injected the series with intriguing new characters, including acclaimed film actor James Spader, who will play Alan Shore, a complicated and ethically challenged lawyer, and Rhona Mitra, who will play Tara Wilson, a confident paralegal in her third year of law school who is also the firm's new tough-as-nails assistant.

The multiple Emmy Award-winning drama has also earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Series, a Peabody Award, a Viewers for Quality Television Award, an American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award and, most recently, a coveted Humanitas Award.

With my next pick I'd first like to thank Prototype for passing it over.

Team Jumped the Shark is happy to select one of my favorite Stephen King books and a really great TV movie:
http://i3.tinypic.com/wk2p6p.jpg

A 1990 Emmy-winning horror film based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

Starring:
Harry Anderson - Night Court, Dave's World
Dennis Christopher - The Profiler
Annette O'Toole - Smallville
Tim Reid - WKRP, Simon & Simon, Frank's Place
John Ritter - Three's Company, 8 Simple Rules
Richard Thomas - The Waltons
Tim Curry - The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Home Alone 2
Seth Green - Family Guy, Robot Chicken, The Italian Job
Emily Perkins - Ginger Snaps

IT aired as a two-part television mini-series on November 18, 1990 on ABC, and loosely follows the plot of the novel. The first half of the film, set in 1960 (in the novel, it was set in 1958), introduces a group of social misfits, the "Losers", as they meet and form a tight-knit group in the face of a cruel and intolerant world. They each individually come into contact with the child-killing monster, which they name "It", haunting their hometown of Derry, Maine. It usually appears as the thing the child victim mostly fears before taking the form Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Tim Curry).

The film opens with a young girl riding her bike singing Itsy Bitsy Spider. It is about to storm outside and her mother tells her to come on inside. The girl ignores her mother and tries to ride some more. But she hears children laughing in a distance. Then she hears a clown giggle. As she turns around the voice whispers "Hi". She sees a seemingly friendly clown, it is Pennywise luring her into his death trap. The film then flashes to her bike left unattended with her dead body beside it. She is found dead by her hysterical mother.

Great pick HD - I remember watching this while at school and my friends and I all being totally freaked out by Pennywise.....right up to the end when they cheaped on the special effects and ruined an otherwise excellent show!

Despite the poor ending, I can't stand clowns to this day and IT is partly responsible for that so it certainly did something right!

Thanks for bringing back 18 years of repressed memories HD! I saw this movie at a sleepover one night when I was in like Grade 4 and it gave me nightmares for 3 months I swear. I hate clowns to this day because of it. It probably didn't help that the girl's bedroom at whose house we were watching it was filled with clowns on top of it. I also don't know what kind of parent lets kids in Grade 4 watch a movie like "It" to begin with. Now excuse me while I go sit in a corner and cry.

Couldn't let this one fall any more and I'm surprised it is available at this point in the draft. Very, very funny show that kind of broke down some walls having two homosexual main characters on a prime time TV show. Obviously, America loved it as it ran strong for 8 seasons.

Eric McCormack, Debra Messing and Sean Hayes were great in their roles of Will, Grace and Jack respectively, but I really fell in love with Megan Mullally and her over the top performances of Karen Walker, Grace's independently wealthy assistant. Laugh after laugh after laugh. The show never failed to provide laughs! I counted 16 Emmy wins and a plethora of nominations during the shows run.

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/Image/Criminal-Minds/criminal-minds.jpg

from wiki:
Criminal Minds is a US crime drama series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_procedural) that premiered September 22, 2005 on CBS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS). It is produced by The Mark Gordon Company in association with ABC Studios (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABC_Studios) and CBS Paramount Network Television (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS_Paramount_Network_Television). The show follows the adventures of a team of profilers from the FBI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FBI)'s Behavioral Analysis Unit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioral_Analysis_Unit) (BAU) at Quantico, Virginia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantico,_Virginia). In the Action/Adventure category, Team Legen...wait for it...dary! selects Angel.

As mentioned above, I was a pretty hardcore fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it was on, so it was only fitting to also watch "Angel". Angel is a spin-off series about Buffy's Vampire boyfriend Angel, played by David Boreanaz. The show is about Angel moving away from Sunnydale to Los Angeles and fighting the forces of evil with Angel Investigations, his detective agency and battling the evil law firm of Wolfram & Hart, whose clients are of the demon variety. Angel was always kind of a drag when he was on Buffy, but he was given so much more personality on his own show. The show also featured Buffy Alums Cordelia Chase and Wesley Wyndam-Price, and has several cross-over episodes with Buffy. My favorite characters were Charles Gunn and Lorne, the lounge singer demon. After Buffy ended, James Marsters aka Spike joint the cast, which made me a very happy person because he was always my favorite.

IMDB page:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162065/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162065/)

Clips:

This doesn't really show much about Angel as a show, it just a good clip with Spike in it.

(I think I'm about the cheese some people off)

With our eleventh selection in the 2008 Calgary Puck Television Draft, we here at the Patterson Corporation are pleased to select for our lineup on our new channel MQS-TV, an open comedy that not only made us laugh, but in 2002 also helped to teach us about historical figures . Staring Will Forte, Phil Lord, Michael McDonald, Christa Miller, Chris Miller, Nicole Sullivan, Donald Faison, and Neil Flynn. In its only season this show attracted guest stars such as Andy Dick, Tom Green, Mandy Moore, John Stamos, Marilyn Manson, Michael J. Fox, Jack Black, Murray Miller, Judah Miller, Debra Wilson, Zach Braff, Joe Flaherty, and the apple of my eye, the love of my life, my be all end all of celebrities, my future wife Sarah Chalke. While not winning any major awards it does have a cult following, especially amongst twenty-somethings. Filling our Comedy (Open)* slot, we here at MQS-TV humbly select from the Teletoon and Music Television, Clone High.

OK.. with my next pick... in the Crime category:

Matlock!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4f/Matlock.png

Matlock was a long-running American television legal drama. The show ran from September 23, 1986 to May 8, 1992 on NBC, where it replaced the long-running series The A-Team to Friday nights, then on November 5, 1992 until May 7, 1995 on ABC.

The show centered on widower Benjamin L. "Ben" Matlock (Andy Griffith). Matlock is a renowned, folksy, popular yet cantankerous defense attorney, (based on attorney Bobby Lee Cook, from Summerville Georgia,) who is worth every penny of his $100,000 fee. As part of "The Thief (Part1)" Matlock bartered his services for several rare coins in the defense of a coin dealer. His remark was "Look at it this way Michael. You just got $100,000.00 in legal services for just $13.00."[citation needed][neutrality disputed] He has also solved and subsequently won at trial almost every case he has taken, especially murder cases where everyone else was sure his client was guilty, when at the end of the episode, the person who is sitting on the stand, is the actual killer. He studied law at Harvard, based his law practice in Atlanta, Georgia, and lived in a modest farmhouse in a neighboring suburb. He is known to visit the scene of the crime to discover clues otherwise overlooked and come up with viable, alternative theories of the crime in question (usually murder). Matlock also has conspicuously finicky fashion sense; he generally appeared in court wearing a trademark light gray suit and, over the nine seasons, was seen behind the wheel of three generations of the Ford Crown Victoria— always an all-gray model (Andy Griffith always drove Ford products in his 1960's show, The Andy Griffith Show, as with Matlock). Some Mayberry alumni had guest shots on the drama: Don Knotts, Aneta Corsaut, Betty Lynn and Arlene Golonka.

Matlock was noted for his thrift and a fondness for hot dogs. After the series ended, his penchant for hot dogs was explained in the episode Murder Two of the television show Diagnosis: Murder. In it, Matlock blames Dr. Mark Sloan for recommending a disastrous investment in 8-track cartridges. Matlock subsequently invested (and lost) his savings of $5000, while he survived by wearing cheap suits and living on hot dogs.

Matlock's thriftiness, liking for hot dogs, and the demands he placed upon his investigators were often points of comic relief in the series. Andy Griffith's prior career as a comic often showed through in things that Matlock did or said.

In the Educational category, Team Sequoia is proud to select, Beakman's World.

http://www.sonypictures.com/tv/kids/images/kids_beakmans_world.jpg

From Wikipedia:

The program starred Paul Zaloom as Beakman, an eccentric scientist who performed comical experiments and demonstrations in response to viewer mail, to illustrate various scientific concepts from density to electricity to flatulence. When his experiments were successful, he would often exclaim "Zaloom!", referring to his last name.

One segment of the show was the famed "Beakman Challenge". During this, Beakman would challenge Lester to do a basic scientific feat. During the first season, virtually every challenge related to either Air Pressure or Bernoulli's Principle. The show addressed this during the second season, by having Lester exclaim to Beakman (as he was explaining the science behind a trick) "AIR PRESSURE! IT'S ALWAYS AIR PRESSURE!"

At the beginning and end of the show, as well as before or after commercial breaks, the show featured short scenes portraying puppet penguins, Don (voiced by Bert Berdis) and Herb (Alan Barzman), at the South Pole watching Beakman’s World on television. The penguins were named after Don Herbert, who starred as Mr. Wizard in Watch Mr. Wizard. Mark Ritts (Lester) was also one of the puppeteers operating the penguins.

As of now, Beakman's World currently plays in weekend syndication in the United States and in several other countries. It is distributed by Sony Pictures Television in the U.S. and Sony Pictures Television International in other countries.

team Abe Vigoda chooses, under the medical category:

Trapper John, M.D.

http://mash.sipe.cz/serial/img/trapper-john-2.jpg

Trapper John, M.D. is an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) television medical drama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_drama) and spin-off (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spin-off) of the film MASH (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MASH_(film)), about a lovable doctor who became a mentor, father figure, who also owns a teaching hospital in San Francisco, California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco,_California). The show ran on CBS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS) from September 23, 1979, to September 4, 1986.

Trapper John, M.D. was a long-running medical show focused on Dr. Trapper John McIntyre (played by Bonanza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonanza_(TV_series)) alumnus Pernell Roberts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pernell_Roberts)) during the 28 years following his discharge from the 4077th M*A*S*H (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_army_surgical_hospital) unit in Korea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korea). In this time the character had mellowed considerably. He didn't just learn how to stop fighting the system but became a part of it, in a sense, as the Chief of Surgery at San Francisco Memorial Hospital. Trapper showed tremendous compassion towards his patients, often violating "established hospital procedures." Trapper's bookie, Arnold Slocum (Simon Scott (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Scott)), taught him how to appease hospital administration towards this end. Trapper's partner was an aspiring young professional named Dr. George Alonzo "Gonzo" Gates (played by actor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actor)/director (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_director) Gregory Harrison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_Harrison)). Gates also had a lot in common with Trapper John as he had served in a M*A*S*H (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M*A*S*H) unit during the Vietnam War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War). His childish, irresponsible behavior, and love of life also reflected elements of Trapper's younger days. In the show he resided in a motor home in the hospital parking lot. He worked himself up to becoming the Chief of Surgery, years before he had a stroke, just before he married Fran. Interestingly, Harrison was featured in a 1976 episode of M*A*S*H as Lt. Tony Baker: the husband of one of the nurses at the 4077th.

The series, which premiered on October 10 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_10), 1993 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993), was a stylized cooking competition featuring accomplished guest chefs challenging one of the show's resident "Iron Chefs" in a timed cooking battle built around a specific theme ingredient. The series ended on September 24 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_24), 1999 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999), although occasional specials were produced until 2002. The series aired over 300 episodes.

While always a success in Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan), Iron Chef became a surprise cult favorite in the United States [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Chef#cite_note-0) when it was picked up by the Food Network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_Network) and dubbed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubbing_(filmmaking)) in English. Much of the U.S. appeal was due to the dubbing, which gave the show a campy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_(style)) charm that evoked English-dubbed Chinese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_China) kung fu movies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kung_fu_movies) of the 1970s. Audiences also found amusing some of the over-the-top culinary concoctions regularly featured on the show.

Me too. Have never watched the American version...I'm quite sure it loses some entertainment value.

The American version certainly tries but really, it just can't capture the cute goofiness of the original - especially when you know the actual host/guests/chefs were taking things so seriously but the english dubbing was anything but.

Besides watching people eat some of those dishes was entertaining in and of itself - the American show isn't quite so gastronomically extreme, I find. (Or at least it's more appealing to my Western palate...I can envision actually eating some of their food, unlike the original.)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41D6zsynlnL._SS400_.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51BOzjAu86L._SS400_.jpg

The Infomercial Kings are proud to select in the Talk Show category, Off the Record with Michael Landsberg

This show has had so many great interviews on it and so many sports stars have said so many contriversal things on it that it has to be chosen.

http://www.podbean.com/image-logos/20464_logo.jpg

For over a decade, Off The Record has brought fans the best in sports jock talk. Never one to pull punches, host Michael Landsberg - who has been with TSN since the network launched in 1984 - is considered Canada's king of in-your-face debate and one of the best interviewers in the country.

As always, Landsberg is joined every show by some of the most famous and intriguing guests from the world of sports, with a strong focus on hockey. The list of guests who have recently appeared on the show includes NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin, NFL greats Terrell Owens and Tony Dungy, plus Yankees' All-Star Derek Jeter.

I am at work so I cannot post videos. I will post more on this later.

"I am vengeance! I am the night! I am BATMAN!"

For my next pick, team Frozen TV Dinner is proud to select in the Cartoon category, Batman: The Animated Series.

http://www.batmantas.com/img/harley1.jpg

Inspired by the film-noir style of the Tim Burton Batman films, and debuting the fall after the release of Batman Returns, Batman:TAS started airing on the Fox network's weekday afternoon "Fox Kids" schedule in September 1992.

The show was an instant critical and ratings success. Entertainment Weekly named it one of the 10 best shows of the year in 1992, and Fox even briefly re-ran episodes in prime time. The episode that told Robin's origin story also won a Prime Time Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program.

Although it aired on "Fox Kids" and later "Kids WB", Batman:TAS was not a childish show. You could argue that the depiction of Batman and his foes in the Animated Series was less cartoonish than the Schumacher-directed live-action films.

The series was not content simply using the standard Rogues gallery from the comic books, it actually introduced some characters who were later added to the "official" DC Universe canon, most notably, the Joker's stalker/sidekick Harley Quinn (a name she shares with comic book geek and film director Kevin Smith's daughter). Speaking of the Joker, his voice was brilliantly provided by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, who has gone on to become a very successful voice actor as a result of the praise he received for his work on the series.

Between two production companies, GI Joe ran for 188 episodes between 1983 and 1991. The success of the cartoon series fueled a successful action figure line, and a full length feature film. Due to the box office disapointments of the Transformers and My Little Pony movies, GI Joe: The Movie became a direct to video release, plus, it it an amazingly bizzare storyline.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is a half-hour American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) animated television series based on the successful toyline from Hasbro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasbro) and the comic book series from Marvel Comics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Comics). In Japan the series was called Chijô Saikyô no Expert Team G.I. Joe (地上最強のエキスパートチームG.I.ジョー). The cartoon had its beginnings with two five-part mini-series, then became a regular series that ran in syndication from 1985 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_in_television) to 1987 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_in_television).

GI Joe has also become an internet icon with the PSA spoofs that popped up on almost every viral video site.

With our next selection team Jumped the Shark is happy to select in the category of Gameshow:

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b187/HalifaxDrunk/MXC.jpg

MXC is a game show, hosted by Vic Romano and Kenny Blankenship, in which two or three teams of contestants compete in several turn-based and head-to-head challenges. While some matchups, such as Democrats vs. Republicans vs. Third Party, have a real life meaning, most of them, such as Inventors vs. Ex-Child Actors, and Malcontents vs. baked goods do not.

The contestants compete in a variety of challenges, usually four, but occasionally as many as six. The challenges are extremely hard (MXC's tagline is "the World's Most Toughest Competition in Town"), and a majority of the contestants fail them. Failed attempts which look especially painful or ridiculous are highlighted via the "MXC Impact Replay." Contestants who do complete a challenge earn one or two points for their respective team. The team with the most points at the end of the program wins the competition. At the end of each show, Kenny counts down the ten most "Painful Eliminations of the Day," which usually focus on the action from the show itself (especially from the Impact Replays) but sometimes include highlights from the various goings-on around the competition (some of them involving reporter Guy Le######, or even the hosts themselves).

* Vic Romano (named after a character from the Miami Vice episode "Streetwise" who was played by Bill Paxton) is the co-host and play-by-play commentator. He is level-headed, has a dark past of alcohol abuse, failed marriages, various addictions and generally treats MXC as a serious competition. Vic was once also a professional baseball player who became addicted to "everything", including every type of drug, alcohol, and easy women. He once was an airline pilot during his stint of alcohol abuse, but states, "Luckily, nobody noticed". Notable catch phrases include "Right you are Ken", "Indeed!", and "Good to know." He is played by the well-known Japanese actor Takeshi Kitano and voiced by Victor Wilson.

* Kenny Blankenship is the other co-host and color commentator. Blankenship is a light-hearted high-school dropout whose uncle owns the network. He thinks mostly about "chicks, pizza and beer." He is played by comedian Sonomanma Higashi and voiced by Christopher Darga.

* Captain Tenneal, whose name comes from the 1970s musical act Captain & Tennille, is the field marshal who conducts the contestants through each challenge with a sharp "Get it on!" Near the beginning of each MXC episode, he is seen addressing the contestants as a group, asking whether some broad assertion relating to one of the topics in the episode is true. After the contestants raise their hands to show agreement, the Captain declares "You're wrong!", because he is the Captain. After further explanation and give-and-take with individual contestants, he bellows "Let's go!" and leads the contestants forward to begin playing the games. Captain Tenneal is played by Hayato Tani and voiced by John Cervenka.

* Guy Le###### (pronounced "gi") is the field reporter. He is portrayed wearing a pith helmet, and his personality is that of a creepy French guy who hits on every contestant he interviews (both male and female). He has other family member interviewers who show the same behavior, such as "Lyndon" (which plays off wacky political figure Lyndon LaRouche), "Geek", "Giddy", "Gip," "Goon", and "Gawp", along with females named "Gay", "Grandma", "Gab", "Gin" , "Gidget" and "Gal". Guy is played by Shingo Yanagisawa and the family is voiced by John Cervenka (male) and Mary Scheer (female).

In an unexpected move, Vic Mackey and the Strike Team will use one of it's precious Wildcard slots to select Little House on the Prairie.

Seriously, how is this show still on the board? It had everything. Anyone who says they didn't/don't like Little House can't possibly be human.

9 seasons, 189 episodes all based on the books of Laura Ingalls-Wilder. Nominated for 17 emmys and winner of 5. This show made you laugh, it made you cry and it made you amazed when you looked on a map of Minnesota and found out that Sleepy Eye is REALLY the name of a town. Michael Landon treated the show as one of his children, and it really shows.

Sure, I doubt I'm going to be stealing his pick.

In the Information category, Team Legen...wait for it...dary! selects my favorite show on the Food Network, Unwrapped!

It's the "How It's Made" of the food world and I love watching it. I like it because it's really interesting to see how automation is used to make food and I have a massive sweet tooth so it's fun to see all the crap that goes into the food I eat!

I could only find one good clip on Youtube, making lollipops

And the show website at the Food Network has more clips.

I'll take.. In reality (ongoing).... MTV's The Real World

http://www.mm-agency.com/mtv-real-world/real-world-logo.jpg

The first reality TV show ever... MTV's The Real World is still going "strong" into it's 21st season, The Real World: Brooklyn.

This season has taken TRW casting into uncharted territory of ridiculousness: not only do we have the token gay character (JD), the token religious character (Chet - a mormon from Utah), the token juice-monkey (Scott), the token minority (Devyn), the token cute-white-girl (Baya), and the token wild-child (ex-lesbian Sarah).... This season producers have decided to throw an Iraq-vet (Ryan) and... a Transgendered female (Katelynn).

It's going to be a trainwreck week-in, week-out, and I can't wait!!!

Ok... for my Mini-Series pick...

V! (the original miniseries)

http://kennethjohnson.us/sitebuilder/images/V-OrigDVD-445x600.jpg

Aliens arrived on Earth in a fleet of 50 huge, saucer-shaped motherships, which hovered over major key cities. They revealed themselves on the roof of the United Nations building in New York City, and were human in appearance, but required special glasses to protect their eyes; they also had a distinctive low resonance to their voices. Simply referred to as the Visitors, they reached out in friendship, ostensibly seeking the help of humans to obtain chemicals needed to aid their ailing world. In return, the Visitors promised to share their advanced technology with humanity. The governments of Earth accepted the arrangement, and the Visitors, led by their leader John and his deputy Diana, began to gain considerable influence with human authorities.

However, strange things were soon noted. Scientists found themselves facing increasing media hostility, and government restrictions on their activities and movements. Others, particularly those keen on examining the Visitors more closely, began to disappear or were discredited. Noted scientists confessed to subversive activities; some exhibited other unusual behavior, such as suddenly demonstrating an opposite hand preference to the one they were known to have.

Journalist and TV cameraman Michael Donovan (Singer) covertly boarded one of the Visitors' motherships and discovered that beneath their human like facade, the aliens were reptilian in nature, and carnivorous - preferring to eat live food, like rodents and birds. Donovan recorded some of what transpired on tape, but just as the exposé was about to air, the broadcast was interrupted by a Visitor announcement suddenly making Donovan a fugitive, pursued by both the police and the Visitors.

Scientists around the world continued to be persecuted - both to discredit them (as the part of the human population most likely to discover the Visitors' secrets) and to distract the rest of the population with a scapegoat upon whom they could focus their fears. Key human individuals were subjected to Diana's special mind control process called "conversion", which turned them into the Visitors' pawns, leaving only subtle behavioral clues to this manipulation; others were subjects of biological experiments. Some other humans, on the other hand (including Mike Donovan's mother, Eleanor Dupres), willingly collaborated with the Visitors, seduced by their power. Daniel Bernstein, a grandson of a Holocaust survivor, joined the Visitor Youth and began to reveal the locations of traitors to the alien cause. One teenager, Robin Maxwell, the daughter of a prominent scientist who went into hiding, was seduced by a male Visitor named Brian, who impregnates her as one of Diana's "medical experiments."

A resistance movement was formed, determined to expose and oppose the Visitors as much as possible. The Los Angeles cell leader was Dr. Juliet "Julie" Parrish. Donovan was later assimilated into the group and, sneaking again into a mothership, he learned from a Visitor named Martin that the story about the needed chemicals was merely a diversion. The true purpose of the Visitors' trip to Earth was to conquer and subdue the planet, steal all of the Earth's water and harvest the human race as food, leaving only a few as slaves and soldiers/cannon fodder for the Visitors' wars with other alien races. Donovan also discovered there were dissidents among the Visitors (later known as the Fifth Column) who opposed their leader's plans. Martin promised to aid the Resistance, and gave Donovan access to an alien ship, which he quickly learned how to pilot.

Soon, the members of the Resistance struck their first blows against the Visitors, while procuring laboratory equipment and modern military weapons from National Guard armories to carry on the fight. The symbol of the resistance was blood-red letter V's spray-painted over posters promoting Visitor friendship among humans.

Not to nit pick here FI80, but I think you're pick is V... based on the success of the mini-series, and V: The Final Battle, NBC ran a full series based on the franchise. Almost the same as what they did with the new Night Rider.

So if you're doing the mini-series, it's just V.

With our 12th Round selection, Team Sequioa is proud to select, in the Canadian category, Are You Afraid of the Dark?

http://www.solosubtitulos.com/uploads/imagenes/6285_are_you_afraid_of_the_dark.jpg

From Wikipedia:
Both series of Are You Afraid of the Dark? revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as "The Midnight Society". Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one member would tell a scary story to the group. The actual story, rather than the telling, was displayed to the television viewer. The story was shown between the group's arrival at the site and their departure. Each storyteller would begin their story by saying "Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story..." at which point he or she would toss out a handful of potassium nitrate (which the characters referred to as "dust") from a leather pouch into a campfire to heighten the flames and produce an eerie white smoke. The storyteller would continue by announcing its title (The Tale of...).
The themes of the stories usually revolved around a variety of paranormal phenomena, such as ghosts, goblins, magic, haunted houses, magical curses, aliens, witches and the like coming into contact with normal teenagers. Usually, the episodes were either filmed in the woods, in abandoned houses, or in public places like schools or libraries.

At the end of every episode one character would throw a red bucket of water onto the fire, stating "I declare this meeting of the Midnight Society closed." And the group would leave the campsite, thus ending the story telling.

under educational, team Abe Vigoda chooses The Electric Company

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8b/Ec_logo_800.jpg/200px-Ec_logo_800.jpg

How can you go wrong with a cast that included Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby, Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, etc?

The Electric Company was an educational American children's television series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children%27s_television_series) that was produced by the Children's Television Workshop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sesame_Workshop) (now Sesame Workshop) for PBS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PBS) in the United States. PBS broadcast 780 episodes over the course of its six seasons, from 1971 to 1977. After it ceased production that year, the program continued in reruns until 1985. CTW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sesame_Workshop) produced the show at Reeves Teletape (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Reeves_Teletape&action=edit&redlink=1) Second Stage in Manhattan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan).
The Electric Company employed sketch comedy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sketch_comedy) and other devices to provide an entertaining program to help children of elementary-school (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elementary_school) age develop their reading skills. It was intended for children who had graduated from CTW's flagship program, Sesame Street (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sesame_Street). Appropriately enough, the humor was more mature than what was seen there.

The original cast included Morgan Freeman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Freeman), Rita Moreno (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rita_Moreno), Bill Cosby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cosby), Judy Graubart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judy_Graubart), Lee Chamberlin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Chamberlin), and Skip Hinnant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip_Hinnant). Most of the cast had done stage, repertory, and improv work, with Cosby and Moreno already well-known from film and television. Ken Roberts, who was best known as a soap-opera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soap_opera) announcer, was the narrator of some of the segments during the first season.
Jim Boyd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Boyd_(actor)), who was strictly an off-camera voice actor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_actor) and puppeteer in the first season, began appearing on-camera in season two, mostly in the role of J. Arthur Crank. Luis Avalos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luis_Avalos) also joined the cast at that time.
Bill Cosby was a regular in season one, and occasionally appeared in new segments during season two, but left afterward. Nevertheless, segments Cosby had taped in seasons one and two were repeatedly re-run in shows produced throughout the following four seasons, and Cosby was billed as a cast member throughout the show's entire run. Similarly, Lee Chamberlin also left after the second season, but many of her segments were also repeatedly reused. Consequently, Chamberlin was also billed as a cast member for the show’s entire run.
Added to the cast at the beginning of the third season was Hattie Winston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hattie_Winston), an actress and singer who later appeared on the show Becker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becker_(TV_series)). Beginning in the fourth season, Danny Seagren (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Danny_Seagren&action=edit&redlink=1) appeared in the role of Spider-Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man).

Team TV Guide calls to the podium one of the most excellent dramas to come out of HBO in the last few years, Rome.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v710/Tavie/rome.jpg

The setting was lush & realistic, the costumes glorious in their authenticity & the acting superb - in many ways, it reminded me of the Sopranos, just a few centuries before Tony Soprano was running things in Jersey. You can argue that the series was not as historically accurate as it could have been, it did feel authentic tho and according to producers that was their main goal.

http://www.wwedaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/americangladiators.jpg

In each episode, the contenders competed in a series of events. Six to eight events were played per show, varying from season to season. Most of the events tested the contenders' physical abilities against the superior size and strength of the Gladiators, who were mostly pro or amateur bodybuilders and former football players. In most events, the contenders were not directly pitted against each other, but against the Gladiators. In each event, the contenders earned points based on their performance.

For my next selection, Frozen TV Dinner is happy to select, from the UK's Channel 4, in the Miniseries category, 1989's Traffik.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51QJK1M07JL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

I was disappointed to not get the movie Traffic in the movie draft, so I am happy to make up for it now by choosing the inspiration for Steven Soderbergh's Oscar winning film.

Traffik was a 6 episode series produced in 1989 and follows the flow of heroin from the poppy fields of Pakistan, through traffickers in Germany, finally to the addicts in England. The story is told through 3 intertwined storylines that give the viewer a glimpse into the underlying motivations of the people involved in all sides of the drug trade.

If you have seen the movie, you'll recognize the basic plot: The government's minister in charge of the "war on drugs" (Bill Paterson) discovering that his daughter (Julia Ormond) is an addict herself. The head of a German trafficking ring (George Kukura) is arrested, and after his wife (Lindsay Duncan) gets over the initial shock of discovering where her husband's wealth came from, she takes over running the family business. Also, the source of the drugs is traced back the poppy fields of Pakistan, where extreme poverty leads desperate people to do desperate things.

Because the miniseries had more than double the running time, it was able to explore the lives of the characters more deeply than the movie was able to. As much as I enjoyed the movie (it's still one of my favourite films of this decade), the miniseries is probably superior to the film.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any clips of the miniseries on YouTube, but it is available on DVD, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the film.

Dion's Pick...

The Couch Potatoes select from the mini series category Nightmares and Dreamscapes...

http://i44.tinypic.com/rig708.gif

“Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King.” The series is an excellent reminder that what makes Mr. King’s visions so fascinating is not their uniqueness or their artistry, but exactly how much they’re like ordinary nightmares. Which are plenty scary. And good for him for writing them down.

These movies are based on Mr. King’s short stories, and five in this series come from his book “Nightmares and Dreamscapes.” Apparently nothing Mr. King writes is unfilmable. These elaborate, showoff productions, which star people like William H. Macy (http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/filmography.html?p_id=44480&inline=nyt-per) and William Hurt (http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/filmography.html?p_id=34104&inline=nyt-per), are proof that TNT, having had success with “Salem’s Lot” in 2004, is really getting into the moviemaking game, and setting out to lure serious actors.

Where's The Remote? are pleased to select in the Canadian category:

The Newsroom

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTQyNjE0Mzg1N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjk5MTYzMQ@@._ V1._SX89_SY140_.jpg

Before "The Office" came this Canadian gem, yes Canadian, by CBC no less. Bitingly dark satirical mockumentary of a Canadian Newsroom. The first season especially is brilliant stuff. Recommended.

The Newsroom is an award winning Canadian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada) television comedy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy) series which ran on CBC Television (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBC_Television) in the 1996-97, 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. A two-hour television movie, Escape from the Newsroom, also aired in 2002.
In the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States), The Newsroom airs on PBS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PBS) stations across the country.
Set in the newsroom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsroom) of a television station (never officially named, but clearly based on the CBC itself), the show — which was similar to such earlier series as the British Drop the Dead Donkey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_the_Dead_Donkey) and the Australian Frontline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontline_%28Australian_television_series%29) — mined a dark vein of comedy from the political machinations and the sheer incompetence of the people involved in producing the nightly news.
The original 13 episodes were meant as a short run, not a multiseason series, and became one of the most critically acclaimed programs on Canadian television in the 1990s. Following the end of The Newsroom, Finkleman produced three different short-run series for the CBC, More Tears (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_Tears), Foolish Heart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foolish_Heart) and Foreign Objects (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Objects), all of which included Findlay as a linking character. (A Findlay-like character with a different surname had also appeared in Finkleman's pre-Newsroom series Married Life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Married_Life).)
However, none of these subsequent series were as well-received by the public or by critics, and the CBC began to seek a new set of Newsroom episodes. Escape from the Newsroom, which included a fourth wall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_wall)-breaking plot digression in which the characters directly addressed the idea of reviving the series, was meant partly as a sarcastic response to that request. However, Finkleman ultimately agreed to produce 13 new episodes, which aired in the winter of 2004. The last four episodes of the second season were shot as a mockumentary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mockumentary).
A third season of The Newsroom, consisting of six episodes, aired on CBC beginning February 14, 2005. All three seasons and Escape from the Newsroom are available on DVD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD).

7420 episodes. Need I say more? OK...probably. The show ran for nearly 30 years and I remember it being distinctly different from the other soaps my step-mom and grandmother watched when I was 5 or so. It had an erie sort of mysterious feel to it.

With our lucky number 13th pick, The Channel Surfers select Beast Wars: Transformers in the Animated category.

wiki:
Beast Wars: Transformers (Beasties on YTV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YTV_%28TV_channel%29), due to YTV discomfort over the name[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_Wars#cite_note-0)) is a Transformers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers_%28toyline%29) toyline released by Hasbro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasbro) between 1995 and 1999, and a full-CG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_graphics) animated television series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animated_television_series) spawned by it that debuted in 1996. The Emmy Award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmy_Award)-winning series was set in the "original" Transformers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers:_Generation_1) universe as a sequel to the original series (which was later rebooted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reboot_%28continuity%29) by various limited comic book stories from several companies including Dreamwave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamwave_Productions) comics and IDW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDW_Publishing)).
The two main factions of robot Transformers are descendants of the two main factions in the original cartoon series: the Maximals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximal_%28Transformers%29) are the descendants of the Autobots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobot) and the Predacons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predacon_%28Transformers%29) are the descendants of the Decepticons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decepticon). The names were intended to stem from the terms Mammal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammal) and Predator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predator) but were not necessarily consistent with the alternate forms of the Transformers.(In Beast Machines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_Machines), the process during which Autobots and Decepticons became Maximals and Predacons is respectively referred to as the "The Great Upgrade".)

The leader of the Predacons team is Megatron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megatron_%28Beast_Wars_and_Beast_Machines%29). He and his forces are a splinter group on the hunt for powerful crystals known as Energon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energon), to be used in a ploy for power and dominance. They do this with the aid of artifacts known as the Golden Disk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Disk) and Megatron's stolen ship, the Darksyde (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darksyde_%28Transformers%29), which is equipped with a transwarp drive. A Maximal exploration ship, the Axalon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axalon), led by Optimus Primal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimus_Primal), is sent to stop them. Together the ships plunge through a time/space phenomenon created by the transwarp device during their battle in space, and land on a mysterious planet.

The planet is soon found to be rich in deposits of raw Energon, to the point that it proves to be poisonous to both factions' robot forms, forcing the factions to take on alternate organic forms for protection until their robot forms are needed. Thus the robots take on the beast forms of recognizable animals including mammals, birds, dinosaurs, arachnids, and insects. The Maximals

The Predacons
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/transformers/images/2/21/BW_Predacons.jpg

I really, really love this show and have since its beginning. The way that it evolved and changed over the course of its three seasons is really cool, and I greatly enjoyed the homages to the "G1" Transformers show, most notably the discovery of The Ark and Nemesis and the Beast Wars characters' interaction with Optimus Prime and the original Megatron. It's a shame that the series' successor failed to live up to the richness and depth of the writing in Beast Wars. Arguably the best display of the high quality of writing is the episode Code of Hero, the episode where one of the original Beast Wars characters dies.

I know it's not 15 hours yet, but I'm going to the game tonight and wanted to get this in before I leave work. Please do not judge me too harshly for this pick!

In the Reality (Elimination) Category, Team Legen...wait for it...dary! selects Beauty and the Geek.

One of the few things that Ashton Kutcher has forced upon this world that I semi-enjoyed. It was a horrible show full of every stereotype for smart but nerdy guys and pretty but stupid girls, but I really enjoyed watching it, even if I'm a little ashamed to admit it. The best season was season 4 where they brought in a male beauty and a female geek and the male beauty was the kid who played Spike in the movie, Little Giants (I know a lot of useless stuff). I don't watch a lot of reality tv and the ones I do watch have already been taken so please be nice.

Filling our the Mini-Series* slot, we here at MQS-TV humbly select from the Canadian Broadcasting Company, Made in Canada.

My next pick is...

In the Talk Show category...

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson!

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/40/LateLate_Ferguson.png

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson is an American late-night talk show hosted by Scottish-American comedian Craig Ferguson. Ferguson is the third regular host of The Late Late Show, which airs on CBS. The show's title is a variation of "Late Show with David Letterman", which precedes it in the CBS late-night lineup.

Show format

The show starts with a cold open introduction, followed by a commercial break, then the opening credits. Craig almost always begins the show (after the first commercial break) by saying "Welcome to Los Angeles, California. Welcome to The Late Late Show. I'm your host, TV's Craig Ferguson". He then says to the camera "Hey! Look at you! Come on in", then begs his audience to stop applauding. He then usually begins the monologue by saying, "It's a great day for America, everybody." On days when exceptionally bad news (such as a national tragedy) prevails, Ferguson will omit the line.

Craig's monologue is told in an informal, largely-improvised fashion[citation needed] and often spills over into his first segment following a commercial break. Ferguson reads and responds to viewer e-mail almost every night. Other segments include loosely-scripted comedy sketches which feature Ferguson in costume or performing in collaboration with any of a number of semi-regular guests including performers such as Dave Foley, Betty White, Tim Gunn, Jeffrey Tambor, Daniel McVicar, and Tim Meadows. Occasionally a guest will participate in a sketch, such as Ewan McGregor. Most shows include celebrity interviews and sometimes a musical guest and or stand-up comedy act. Musical performances are often taped before the rest of a show.

Ferguson has used many running gags that span multiple shows and have colorful animated graphics. These have included themed weeks such as "Crab Week" and "Shark Week" (though Craig admits that the show's budget makes the themes limited mostly to graphics), a sound effects machine installed at his desk, (which has been removed) and "Election Fever" during the run-up to the 2008 Presidential election. Another running gag is the "photo of Paul McCartney". When McCartney is mentioned in the monologue, Ferguson will call for a photo of McCartney, which is actually a photo of actress Angela Lansbury and vice versa. The show often uses variations of this gag featuring other pairs of look-alike celebrities.

The show ends with What Did We Learn on the Show Tonight, Craig? Where Craig summarizes the lessons of the evening.

Serious monologues

On a few occasions Ferguson's opening monologue has taken on a serious tone.

* On January 30, 2006, Ferguson eulogized his father, who had died the day before. Ferguson was nominated for his first Emmy Award for the episode.
* On February 19, 2007, Ferguson announced he would do "no Britney Spears jokes", saying "comedy should have a certain amount of joy in it" and that it shouldn't include "attacking the vulnerable." He references his 15 years of sobriety and the struggle he had with addiction, almost ending in suicide.
* On September 10, 2008, Ferguson described his excitement about voting in his first U.S. Presidential election and ranted against American voter fatigue, stating, "If you don't vote, you're a moron!"
* On December 8, 2008, Ferguson remembered his mother who passed away December 1, while his show was on break. Ferguson did not tell jokes during the monologue. Instead, he told stories about his mother and how he felt after he had returned back from his mother's funeral in Scotland. During the monologue, as he recounted his father's own death nearly three years prior and spoke of his parents being back together in death, he became very emotional to the verge of tears and cut to commercial. Prior to the break, Ferguson mentioned that his mom wanted the hymn called "Jesus Loves Me" sung at her funeral because that was the only hymn to which everyone knew the words. After the break, he showed a clip from a 2005 interview with his mother and a second clip with his mother and the RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan. Finally, he played his mom's favorite song to end the show, which was "Rivers of Babylon" by Boney M. Ferguson laughed saying, "It's an awful song, but it's her favorite."
* On January 15, 2009, Ferguson complimented the pilot of the US Airways Flight 1549 and congratulated everybody involved for their hard work and dedication. He also named the pilot as a real American hero.

I'm guessing it's my turn since it's been more than 24 hours.

With our 13th Round selection, Team Sequoia is proud to select, from the Reality Elimination category, The Rebel Billionaire: Branson's Quest for the Best.

http://www.ruggedelegantliving.com/a/images/msg.branson.rebel.billionai.jpg

[/URL]From Wikipedia:
The premise for the series was that billionaire Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Worldwide, challenges 16 contestants to tasks that will prove to him which is most qualified to take over as president of Virgin Worldwide. This format is strongly derivative of popular NBC reality show The Apprentice, though as well as business-related tasks it also incorporates many tough physical challenges, reflecting Branson's love of daredevil stunts. Each week also saw the contestants travel to a different country, whereas The Apprentice is just situated in one area. Shawn Nelson, founder and Chairman of LoveSac, was the winner of the first and, so far, only season.

The finale came down to [URL="http://www.lovesac.com/"]Shawn D. Nelson, founder of LoveSac (http://www.ruggedelegantliving.com/a/images/msg.branson.rebel.billionai.jpg), and Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx (http://www.spanx.com/home/index.jsp), with Nelson being crowned the winner.

I watched this while I was living in England, so I'm not sure what kind of reception it got over here. Like so many reality TV shows, Rebel Billionaire was a popularity contest, but still decent for an hour's worth of mindless entertainment.

Team Abe Vigoda is happy to select, in the Action/Adventure category,

The Six Million Dollar Man

http://i1.iofferphoto.com/img/1157698800/_i/14089354/1.jpg

Who didn't love this show as a kid? I even had the action figures. Too bad I don't still have them, I hear the Oscar Goldman one is worth a ton.

The Six Million Dollar Man is an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) television series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_series) about a fictional cyborg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyborg) working for the OSI (which was usually said to refer to the Office of Scientific Intelligence, but sometimes was called the Office of Scientific Investigation as well as the Office of Strategic Intelligence[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Six_Million_Dollar_Man#cite_note-0)). The show was based on the novel Cyborg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyborg_(novel)) by Martin Caidin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Caidin), and aired on the ABC network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Broadcasting_Company) as a regular series from 1974 to 1978, after following three television movies aired in 1973. The title role of Steve Austin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Austin_(fictional_character)) was played by Lee Majors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Majors), who subsequently became a pop culture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_culture) icon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_icon) of the 1970s. A spin-off of the show was produced called The Bionic Woman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bionic_Woman).

The background story of the original novel and the later series is the crash of former astronaut (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronaut) Steve Austin in a “lifting body (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifting_body)” craft, shown in the opening credits of the show (the lifting body craft mostly shown was a Northrop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop) M2-F2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2-F2), however in the episode "The Deadly Replay", a Northrop HL-10 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_HL-10), identified as such in dialog, was used). Austin is severely injured in the crash and is “rebuilt” in a title-giving operation that costs six million dollars. His right arm, both legs and the left eye are replaced by "bionic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionic)" implants that enhance his strength, speed and vision far above human norms: he can run at speeds of 60 miles per hour (100 km/h), and his eye has a 20:1 zoom lens and infrared capabilities. He uses his enhanced abilities to work for the OSI (Office of Scientific Intelligence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Scientific_Intelligence)) as a secret agent (and as a guinea pig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinea_pig) for bionics).
Caidin’s novel was a best-seller when it was published in 1972 and was followed by three sequels, Cyborg II: Operation Nuke, Cyborg III: High Crystal, and Cyborg IV (with no subtitle), respectively about a black market in nuclear weapons, a Chariots of the Gods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chariots_of_the_Gods) scenario, and fusing Austin's bionics to a space plane.
In the spring of 1973, Cyborg was loosely adapted as a made-for-TV movie starring Majors as Austin (although usually referred to by the title The Six Million Dollar Man, and that is the precise wording used on the original ABC broadcast, this film is sometimes cited by the longer title Cyborg: Six Million Dollar Man). The adaptation was done by writer Howard Rodman working under the pseudonym of Henri Simoun. The film, which was nominated for a Hugo Award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Award), modified Caidin's plot, and notably made Austin a civilian astronaut, rather than an Air Force officer. Absent were some of the standard features of the later series: the electronic sound effects, the slow motion running, and the character of Oscar Goldman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Goldman) (instead, another character named Oliver Spencer, played by Darren McGavin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_McGavin), was Austin's supervisor, of an organization here called the OSO). The lead scientist involved in making Austin bionic, Dr. Rudy Wells, was played in the pilot by Martin Balsam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Balsam), then on an occasional basis in the series by Alan Oppenheimer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Oppenheimer), and, finally, as a series regular, by Martin E. Brooks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_E._Brooks). Austin does not use the enhanced capabilities of his bionic eye at any time during the film.
The first film was a major ratings success and was followed by two more made-for-TV films that fall — Wine, Women and War and Solid Gold Kidnapping (the former bearing strong resemblances to Caidin's second Cyborg novel, Operation Nuke; the latter was an original story), followed by the debut, in January 1974, of The Six Million Dollar Man as a weekly hour-long series. The last two movies, produced by Glen A. Larson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glen_A._Larson), notably introduced a James Bond flavor to the series and reinstated Austin's status from the novels as an Air Force colonel; the hour-long series, produced by Harve Bennett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harve_Bennett), dispensed with the James Bond-gloss of the movies, and portrayed a more down-to-earth Austin.
The show was very popular during its run and introduced many pop culture elements of the 1970s, such as the show’s opening catch-phrase ("We can rebuild him — we have the technology."), the slow-motion action sequences, and the accompanying “electronic” sound effects. The slow-motion action sequences were originally referred to as "Kung Fu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kung_Fu_(TV_series)) slow motion" in popular culture (due to its usage in the 1970s martial arts television series), but it became far more noteworthy in The Six Million Dollar Man. (Early episodes, as well as the TV movies, were not consistent in how the bionics effects were presented; such consistency did not begin until the second season.)
In 1975, a two-part episode entitled "The Bionic Woman" introduced the character of Jaime Sommers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaime_Sommers_(The_Bionic_Woman)), a professional tennis player who rekindled an old romance with Austin, only to experience a parachuting accident that resulted in her being given bionic parts similar to Austin. Ultimately, however, her bionics failed and she died. The character was very popular, however, and the following season she was revived (having been cryogenically (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryogenics) frozen) and was given her own spin-off series, The Bionic Woman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bionic_Woman), which lasted until 1978 when both it and The Six Million Dollar Man were simultaneously cancelled.
Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers returned in three subsequent made-for-television movies: The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (1987), Bionic Showdown (1989) — which featured Sandra Bullock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandra_Bullock) in an early role as a new bionic woman; and Bionic Ever After? (1994) in which Austin and Sommers finally marry. Majors reprised the role of Steve Austin in all three productions, which also featured Richard Anderson and Martin E. Brooks. The reunion films addressed Jaime Sommers' amnesia she suffered during the original series, and featured Lee Majors son as a new OSI agent. The first two movies were written in the anticipation of creating new bionic characters in their own series, but nothing further was seen of these new characters.
