Isn't it out today (Friday)? Am I not supposed to waste my weekend killing KILL KILL KILL the zombies?

The reviews and previews make it look pretty good. I think I might have to "go to a customer meeting" tomorrow afternoon so I can fill y'all in on whether or not it's worth the cash.

What else can I say but I agree 100%. Awful awful game because of this. I am not playing a PS2, I want a revised game, with revised controls. I don't care if the previous ones have used it, it is the one thing that always sucked with those games and I thought they would eventually learn. Well I guess not.

Going in a menu to pick a weapon is ok if it is done right, like hold left bumper and move your right thumbstick to the weapon (Saints Row 2), but not being able to shoot while moving is ######ed. Seems like an arcade game, like Duck Hunter.

So very disappointed when I played the demo, because visually I think it looks awesome.

Hmm, I don't think standing still while shooting is a big deal - shooting while on the move is rather unrealistic (as opposed to the realism of destroying hundreds of zombies haha), and it makes it harder and more tactical, which I don't mind. To each their own of course.

I'll probably be getting it but I can't say I was a big fan of the demo. One of the complaints surfacing from a few reviews I read before playing it was that it's not really a survival horror type game anymore, it's more action based. The demo pretty much confirmed that for me.

Still, looks great and will be fun. The online co-op play has loads of potential.

Lots of negative reviews on this game, and lots of racism talks. I guess killing black zombies is deemed racist by a lot of people, but not the game developers.... Google it for a laugh and you'll see.

Apparently RE4 was one of the greatest games ever made but I couldn't look past the controls at all.

I don't understand the racism talk. The setting is in Africa. It's not terribly shocking that the infected people happen to be black.

You could see the racism claims coming from a mile away.

And yeah, if you didn't like the last 8 Resident Evil games and their controls, you likely won't start liking 'em now.

That's my issue. I used to love the atmosphere of the old RE games. Now its just shooting and explosions everywhere. I don't find it nearly as interesting.

I never had an issue with the controls. RE1 is still the best game ever made.

I really never liked Resident Evil until they turned it into a balls to the wall action game in RE4.

That said, RE5 is the best one yet, in my opinion. Fantastic visuals, great story, exciting action, and co-op puts it on a whole new level. If you liked RE4, it's a no-brainer.

Complaining about the controls? Come on, suck it up, not everything has to be a Gears of War clone. They work quite well, and you should really be used to them within fifteen minutes... less if you played RE4.

So far it's pretty sweet - got it right after work and have spooled it up for the last 7 hours. Reminds me quite a bit of RE4, although I REALLY like the AI companion you get - she's actually useful and without her I think you'd have a pretty tough time with the levels where dudes are coming from all sides.

As has been said, the visuals are fantastic. I can see why they didn't try to port it to the Wii, although I'm still disappointed with the difference between trying to shoot with the stick and the incredible ease of shooting with the Wiimote.

umm what? Maybe the demo and retail are different but I can for sure use the dpad to select weapons and such without bringing up the menu.

I guess I remembered wrong.

Doesn't matter, controls are rubbish and always have been. Speaking of Gears of War 2, me and my brother just spent the last 7 hours beating the campaign. That is how it should have been, it isn't run and gun, you just move slowly when your shooting.

No one should "suck it up" for controls. Developers should just realize not to make them crap controls. Controls is something that can't be screwed up, because obviously your always using them. Obviously if someone likes the controls good for them.

I was a little bothered by the controls at first, but after playing for 30 minutes you get used to them.

It's actually a decent game and I'm enjoying playing through it. It's even more fun co-op.

For those that are thinking about getting the game it's $59.99 at Superstore. Seems like it's $69.99 everywhere else. Go and use those SuperBucks!!

I played RE4 a long time ago but I don't remember the controls. You still had to stop and shoot in that iteration too?

Also, which version have most of you folks been purchasing? I've been looking into getting the 360 version because from the comparisons I've seen it looks to be the better of the two. I'll probably play the demo later today and see what I think.

And for those that have done some research into the game, any idea how long it takes to complete the story in the game? Hopefully it's in the range of 10-12 hours to make the $59.99 price tag justifiable.

I'm 8 hours in with a friend on co-op, right at the end of chapter five of six. 10 hours seems a reasonable estimate.

Hey OutoftheCube,

My brother and I started playing, played til end of chapter 2 then quit.

Later when we loaded it up only Chris's items saved and Sheva has nothing, any idea why?

We are playing on one console split screen in offline mode, and he signs in as his gamer profile both times. His character still has everything, just Sheva is empty even when I log in.

Anything special you do? Or do we have to trade all items back to Chris at the end of every game?

Thanks,
Qwerty

Hmm, I couldn't help you out, I've been doing the whole thing with online co-op.

My buddy (who's been playing as Sheva) went on single player and was playing as Chris and had to move all his items over to Sheva before he joined my game. Maybe have your brother start up a single player game, move everything over to Sheva, save and then leave and go into the game with you.

Guys help me with something. I just got a PS3, I haven't played video games in years. This game came in the bundle. I want a combat game for sure but this doesn't sound like a good choice for someone who will have very limited skills. Any ideas on a combat game I can trade it in for?

Also will a place like EB give me more for a new game that's still sealed?

It sounds like the people in this thread bashing the game have never played a Resident Evil (or survival-horror) game before. This isn't an action game, it's not an FPS and it's not GOW. It doesn't let you shoot and run because it takes most of the challenge out of the game and if you could shoot and run it would become a run-of-the-mill modern action shooter. You are supposed to be put in tight spots and tight situations that you may not come out of, with limited ammo.

How easy would games like this be if you could shoot and run? You may never take damage if that was the case.

And in response to the guy saying that it is getting a lot of negative reviews, it's holding above 85% review average on game rankings.com.

If you are an xbox player that isn't well versed in this kind of game and are looking for yet another action shooter, this game probably isn't for you. If you know what to expect and have played Resident Evils and survival horror games before, this is your weekend.
