Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2016 - Round 13

It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack. almost like Shark Week on the Discovery Channel Calgarypuck and the Summer Prospect Ranking has become an institution for rabid Calgary hockey fans.

2013 - Sean Monahan is the top prospect (2013)

2014 - Johnny Gaudreau takes his turn (2014)

2015 - Sam Bennett come on down! (2015)

The last three years have had a prospect named first, and then make an impact right away on the NHL team. Bennett had to have surgery and mop up the OHL first, but all three were big players for the Flames right away.

Will that be the case again this year?

As per usual the vote is up to you. Some see it as most likely to play, some see it as highest ceiling, others see it as a mix of both.

Happy voting!

Round 1 - Tkachuk 83% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=155575 )
Round 2 - Jankowski 42% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=155585)

went klimchuk... seems like most have cooled on him due the weak stat line after his first pro year (plus injuries), but he should have a redeeming year this season i think.

I keep picking Kilmchuk, not a good pro debut, but I think he will find his potential based on....well almost nothing other than he was a first rounder, LOL.

Went with Pollack. Klimchuk, McDonald, Parsons also had some consideration

Went with the Memorial Cup winning goalie who is on a 17 game winning streak.

Much tougher choices now.

At this moment I have little confidence that any of these remaining prospects will see significant NHL time or more importantly be impactful at NHL level.

I am going with 2016 draftees as priority over players in older drafts since higher ceilings.

Parsons for me as our earlier 2nd rounder the Flames scouts had very high in their rankings. He stepped up big time on the biggest stage he could be in.

Not clear that he is ahead of McDonald but McDonald just looked too shaky at WJC U20 tourney that I am very unsure about his potential. Lots of time to redeem himself in next 2-3 years however.

Klimchuk still has time to grow but clock is running out of time in Flames organization. Such a good shot but where was it last year in AHL.

Klimchuk, as the last of the guys who have some development history and are close to making it.

After this, it's wide open and time to look at the new recruits and the more speculative

^How would one say that Klimchuk is close to making it? He hasn't shown an ability to be productive at the AHL level.
I'm not writing him off, but if the evaluation is how close they are to being NHL ready - I don't see how Klimchuk applies.

I'm pretty shocked at the support Klimchuk is getting. If there wasn't an emotional attachment to that pick... I don't believe he'd be getting votes until the late teens. His offense seemed to stall in major junior after his draft year, he's had injury problems, and his offense was almost non-existant last year at the AHL level. I see Klimchuk's ceiling as being a Stephane Yelle type, which would be fantastic, but there are other players on the list with higher ceilings than a 3rd line shutdown winger.

Have we really soured so much on McDonald? I'm only 1 of 2 votes for him... maybe I'm crazy and should be ignored?!

I went with Klimchuk as well ...

I don't see an adjustment year in the AHL as the end of the road for him. ... too many positive comments coming out of Stockton last year about thinking the game, details, understanding, work ethic, pushing the coaching staff with questions on how he can improve.

He'll be an NHL player, I just think his ceiling has slid from 2nd line winger to third.

Historically there is likely two or three that are still left that will make their name known in Calgary ... but 7 or 8 of the top 12 already voted in that won't!

Well I went with Tuulola, but at this point it's hard to say as I haven't seen much playing time from any that are left. I did like what I saw from the prospect camp with him though.

Klimchuck won't be an impact NHLer. In fact I seriously doubt anyone taken 2014 or earlier that's left on this list ever becomes a useful player on the big team.

I went with Parsons not because I know anything about him, but because he was picked in the second round of 2016. If our scouting department thinks he's good enough to be picked there, then they must see something in him.

agreed. his ceiling seems to have been downgraded from 2nd line scoring winger, to 3rd line 2-way winger.... I still think it's a bit unfair after having a not so great 1st year pro offensively. I'd like to hold that judgement call until at least another year, especially given that it seems the organization isn't all doom and gloom about his play last year.

Still don't think Janko or Gillies will ever become a useful player on the big team?

if Fox and Parsons both make the US WJC team their stock on this list will rise considerably.

Even McDonald who many have cooled on deserves mention for making Canada's squad last year.

Far from a sure thing, but still an intriguing piece.
