Too bad you couldn't build inside the road to the sun and back and forth and back and forth and down. The living space and commerce space is completely untapped!
I've abandoned the game completely until at the very least Cheetah speed gets re-enabled. I kinda think this game might be perma-broken though. The fact that it's been out for a month and still has disabled features seems quite ridiculous to me. Plus it sounds like it's still unstable if cities are STILL being lost.

i doubt EA is going to fund any more significant development in SimCity. the PR battle is lost, there is far too much that's broken in the game to fix, and even if they did it likely wouldn't result in any more sales since word of mouth is so bad
they'll pocket the money already made from gullible buyers (me included) and hope that people eventually just forget all about it, ala Gearbox with Aliens: Colonial Marines
Its well on the way to matching ET for the atari as one of the worst games of all time.
Haven't heard of that game? That's cause it was rumored that every copy was rounded up and buried in the same desert as the Star Wars Christmas special.
The thing to do if they had any integrity would be to recall the game and offer refunds and start development from day one.
I mean to be honest, how many people will run out and buy the next version of this game if there is a next version, especially if its released by the same studio.

If they do a good job, tons. They just won't be pre-ordering. Whereas, if V was awesome, the best VI could do is more of the same.
I tried playing again over the long weekend, and I just can't do it. the game is a complete mess and beyond repair, IMO.
My biggest problem with this whole gong show is that I honestly believe EA/Maxis knew about all of these problems and chose to ignore or even hide them. I am talking malicious intent here. That HAD to be the reason that the beta was only an hour long - because the game is a lot of fun in the first hour. The list of major issues with this game is huge; does the developer expect us to believe that none of these issues were raised by their internal QA department?
Sigh..I had such high hopes for this game and it's a complete fail. I would love to see some sort of class action lawsuit that forces EA to give everyone refunds, because that's the only way EA feels any sort of pain over this disaster.
I went digging through old boxes and found a few oldies, didn't even know I had SimCity 4, is it any good?
Also found NHL 2004, SWEET! Bringing back the memories of modding that game into perfection.
SimCity 4 with all the add-ons is a great game. If you just have the standard package, you may want to consider getting the Deluxe version off of Steam (and NOT Origin). There's regional play, Good RCI balancing (which shouldn't be something to brag about... but after V...), logical transit planning and high capacity roadway systems (i.e. highways and interchange), and apparently a great modding community, which I've never dabbled in.
Playing SC4 takes a bit of the foul taste out of your mouth that SC5 leaves.

Absolutely they limited the beta to an hour for this reason - it occurred to me the other day actually, how nobody who has participated in this thread, that had beta access, had any complaints about the game, and thought it odd - until I realized they hadn't been exposed to many of the issues that emerge after longer gameplay sessions.
Personally, I feel like a lot of the vitriol needs to be directed at Maxis more so than EA. I realize they have to tow the corporate line, but those developers with their pretty blogs and videos and screenshots were basically sacrificing their professional reputation on the altar of sales - I'm not sure why anyone would have any interest in their future work (well, or their current work, after other dismal releases like Spore) after misrepresenting their work so much.

Wow. Someone built a city with 1.8 million people without water, power, sewage treatment or garbage collection. There's no crime, no fires, no surrounding industrial or commercial area. All he had to do was put the tax rate to 0%.

Well said, and I agree with your point about Maxis. Maybe EA could be blamed for all the crap at launch day with Origin, but those issues are/were fixable. The current issues with the game have been there since inception and prove that Glassbox has been a complete and utter failure...which has nothing to do with EA.
Personally, I feel as though I was purposely deceived by Maxis. They had to know how horrible the game was but chose to push it out the door anyways.

Ahhh... I got beta access and mentioned how I wasn't impressed with the game. I thought the graphics looked terrible given the incredibly small map sizes. I found it terribly boring/constricting as well which is probably why I only played for the one hour.
Last I checked he hadn't logged into Simcity in weeks, so I'm guessing he's given up on the game too. I hope he don't feel like he needs to hide. Nobody was more excited about the game than him, and we all got sucked in to the slick sales job that he did. I can only imagine how disappointed he is.
As for who's to blame, at this point I don't think there's any need to separate the criticism of EA and Maxis. It's obviously that the cancerous corporate culture of the former has spread to the latter, and we've probably seen the last great game from them.
