For those interested in voting in the liberal leadership race it is free to enter. You just have to check the following

Quote:
I support the purposes of the Liberal Party of Canada, am not a member of any other federal political party, and further declare that I am eligible to be a Registered Liberal and agree to abide by the Constitution of the Liberal Party of Canada.
If you signed up with the NDP to vote for Nenshi that would have expired in December.

Deadline in the 27th, and no poll tax.

Thanks but what would that have to do with Nenshi and the provincial NDP?

Yup.

Delusional thinking.

End of the day economic mobility allows people who are searching for a better job / life to move to those places where this is available.

Jurisdictions should not be penalized for being better at creating jobs.

There's a lot of truth here and we have to strike a balance.
The modern world makes it too easy for wealthy to move and not sacrifice their businesses, as so many businesses are online and can be operated anywhere.

Norway has faced a big issue with this.

You are describing a problem for which the best fix is capitalism and free markets. This is because the answer to your question is, of course, create more jobs.

Equalization is a much worse way to solve the problem you describe.
By your logic equalization payments wouldn’t have a negative impact on job creation, it would just move where those jobs end up. And since you’re such a proponent of people just packing up and moving to wherever the jobs are I’m not sure why you would take issue with that.

Fact of the matter is that with or without equalization capitalism can’t and doesn’t guarantee equality to everyone if it doesn’t produce enough jobs for everyone. You can’t sit here and pretend as if it does because frankly it never has. That doesn’t mean capitalism in itself is a bad thing, it’s just that it isn’t the be all end all flawless solution to all of our problems that you’re trying to make it out to be.

It's not outright stated but implied that it is politically motivated.
Meh, I've ridden in a lot of Teslas and they don't have a great fit and finish. They feel tinnie

It is a wee bit ironic that the posters arguing that we should prioritize unfettered mobility (at the expense of all other things) so that people will move to the most productive places have both chosen not to move to a place that is: (a) more productive; (b) less broken; and (c) less full of people they consider to be total losers; than Canada.

I mean its amazing that we've actually come so far as a country that nobody has a clue what to do about divesting ourselves from the US other than 'turn off the oil & power.'

And yet for years every single time any project, including a pipeline, came up that would accomplish this, it was met with a million reasons why it can't happen.

Even selling clean hydro from province to province and securing clean energy for all Canadians. No, instead we'll sign 30 year contracts with the US.

What a mess.

To me its amusing that the people who have been perfectly okay and supportive (by voting for the turds that do it) of gutting our middle class and restricting our ability to develop our natural resources are now sitting on their high horse telling the only province that actually HAS done that that they should pay MORE to provinces who have actively restricting natural resource development because of some far fetched dumb fairy tale idea that we need more equality.

Well, I'm glad that we're both amused. Its a good reminder that the best things in life (like a bit of amusement on a Friday morning) are free!

Hey, we might get lucky and Energy East or some other comparable project will get some serious consideration before Feb 1.

But, in reality we'll continue to bicker about it, and spend another 10-15 years studying the long-term affects of building a deep water port in Churchill that can export all our natural resources, and once the study is done tell everyone its not possible. Fun times in Canada!

Signing up for the provincial NDP also means you signed up for the Federal NDP.

I say we strike first! Lets invade American Samoa and make it Canadian Samoa!

The Samoans probably wouldn't care either way and the Americans would never see it coming!

Go Fighting Land-Crabs!!

When you joined the NDP to vote for Nenshi you joined the federal party as the provincial NDP is a section of the federal NDP per their constitution. So if you are a federal NDP member you can’t be a federal liberal member.

So if you joined like many did to push the NDP to the middle you would need to ensure you didn’t renew if joining the liberals to vote for what you consider the best option. I don’t know if they ever check but I always make sure I follow the party rules when I join to vote in leadership contests.

I think it’s important to join parties to push them all towards the middle otherwise it’s strong partisans that dictate the general election choices.
