I scored 27 goals and 21 assists in only 14 games in my ball hockey league. Flames should draft me! My stats are even better than Mackinnen and Druoin!

Flames will be drafting around the top 5 spot this year and the same next year. It's imperative that they draft a top line center in one of the 2 next drafts.
I have not followed the 2014 prospect pool at all. I went to 3 sites and it looked like in each of them they only had 2 centers going in the top 9 ( they had 3 but all sites said the player really played RW). Granted these sites are nowhere official and things can change.
Flames really need to look at one of the centers in the top 7 this year. I don't want it to come down to next year where the only center worth getting in the top 5 is Reinhart. If they lose out on him, they will have to reach quite a bit to draft the next best center prospect.
One of MacKinnon, Barkov, Lindholm and Monahan is a must. The only player i would take over those 4 would be Jones. Sorry but Drouin, Nurse and Nichuskin are out for me.

I'm talking about Lindholm and Nischukin. You were making it sound like their totals being lower than guys in the CHL made them less offensively talented prospects.

That's one reason why I shy away from them. Bascially they're an unknown to me. In the absence of knowing, I like many of you, read everything I can about them. Sorry but I don't get "I want these guys" feel. I'll stick with Nurse.

I crafted a response but it's already been said... You're completely disregarding leagues, competition, playing time, etc.

Assuming we have the fifth or sixth pick and no lower, do you think the #2 or #3 pick would exchange picks along with BOTH St. Louis and Pittsburgh picks?
I seriously don't know if that's an over payment or not enough.
From my line of thinking, wouldn't getting MacKinnon or Drouin alone make the draft a success? It doesn't really matter who else we draft after selecting one of them.

For me I'd do it, but I'm not sure if it'd be the right move. I really want one of the top 3 but the 5th or 6th pick could also be really good. Might be possible to get someone to bite in this years draft.

Yes, the 5th or 6th might be really good as well so it would be an over payment but I don't think a team in the Top 3 would trade down any lower than #5 or maybe #6.
If we're 7th or 8th, I don't think all three first-round picks gets us into the Top 3.
The question you have to ask is if:
MacKinnon | Drouin > [insert your triplet of second-tier prospects here]

I wouldn't do it. There is a chance Mackinnon/Drouin > triplet, but you have the greater chance of having 3 good players. Depth is key I believe. Look at Boston, they won on depth. I wouldn't say they had a franchise centre when they won. Just depth through out the line-up. Unless it's a Crosby type prospect, wouldn't take the chance.

At 5th or 6th you still have a good shot at a potentially great center. You can then draft two more players to hedge that bet. I'd roll the dice on Barkov/Lindholm and then support them with Gauthier and Mantha. That is potentially a full first line! Crazy opportunity.

I meant for my post to show that top centers aren't only available with top picks. They can be found all over the draft.

Extremely flawed thinking. Some of the guys in your list aren't even top flight centers. Dubinsky? There's maybe 3-5 elite centers per draft, maybe even less. Hoping to find one out of the top 5 or 10 requires luck.

That'd be nice. You could end up like Edmonton in 2007 though. Gagner, Plante and Nash. That was a horrible way to use 3 picks.

In order to end up like Edmonton, you have to be Edmonton.
They've found a way to mess up picking 1st overall multiple times. So let's not compare - they are the exception to pretty much any rule that exists.

81% chance of drafting top 6, 92% of drafting top 7.
1. Jones
2. MacKinnon
3. Drouin
4. Barkov
5. Lindholm
6. Monohan
81% chance one of those six players is a Flame in two months.
(Unless Flames list is off the board)

I just want my #28 Lindholm jersey.
Is 5th overall too much to ask for Hockey Gods?
