Really?
Any team can beat any team in that game (its all the persons skill)
I always play with crappy young teams phoenix, islanders, Columbus
(before patch), its just the style you play, all I really do is snipe from the circle wait till the d lines up with your stick....than bang it off the post into the net, works every time!

I agree, one time in NHL 08 I beat a guy playing as the eastern all-stars with team Japan!! Granted, that wasn't easy, but there isn't enough of a difference between the best and worst NHL teams in NHL 09 to make it much of an advantage.

Anyone have any tips for playing on all-star difficulty? I find pro way too easy, but when I up the difficulty to all-star I get annihilated.
On offence, I'm rarely able to get a pass into the slot because I just get checked down before the pass makes it there. If try to pass back to the point and take a shot from there, it almost always gets blocked before it makes it to the net. And if I try to take a shot from the perimeter the goalie always saves it. On pro, it's easy just to pass cross crease and one time it in or let the point shot go and try and bang in a rebound, but these plays don't seem to work for me on all-star.
I also find it a lot harder to win the faceoffs. How do you time it right?
I'm really finding the difficulty increase between pro and all-star annoying. I wish there was something between the two. Any advice?

Yea on the all-star difficulty you have to move the puck faster, and about passing back to the point, you can try pressing x or...A ( on the xbox?) to protect the puck from the players.
When you shoot the puck from the point, move laterally to get an open lane and try a low wrist shot or slap shot and look for rebounds.
In all-star you have to be more patient. What i like to do is those on the fly plays (overload, crash net, umbrella, shooting) alternate between two of them while in the offensive zone. SO if you have the puck on the point and change from 'crash the net' to 'overload' you can easily swing it down low and find the guy in front of the net for an easy tap in. You just really have to experiment.

Ok, I have been having major problems lately. What do you guys have for your defensive strategies? I find people can easily get in my zone, and I have a real hard time entering their zone. I used to be the opposite, but I don't know what happened with me. It is frustrating to lose to people when I know I can beat them and the only goals they score are either A) weak ones B) I hit him and the puck goes off his stick and in the net, WHY DOESN'T KIPPER EVER STOP THESE??!!! C) They will do a glitch goal (they still semi-exist). The only 2 wins I have in my last 7 games, are of me playing Goalie with Montreal Centenials.

Although, I'm having problems scoring, I seem to be pretty good at keeping the puck out of my net, even on All-Star. I think the most important thing is to stick to your defensive strategy; just pick one player on defence and play his role. Don't run around and chase guys. Odds are an AI will be chasing the same guy leaving an opposing player wide open for a one-timer. I also try and stick to the same player. Even though its tempting, don't constantly switch players so you're always in on the action; trust your AI players to do their job. If you keep switching, it becomes confusing fast and costs time to reorient yourself.
When the guy your covering gets the puck I find the most effective thing you can do is the stick lift. If he's going for the one timer he'll miss and if he's try to receive the pass often you'll steal the puck away from him. I find the poke check to be more effective when skating backwards and the stick lift when not moving much (defensive coverage in the slot, fighting in the corners, etc).
I also like to lay a hit when the opponent is trying to gain the zone at the blue line around the boards. If you're lucky it'll put him offside, but often he'll lose the puck or at worst dump it into your zone and a teammate can go retreive it before any damage is not. But of couse be sure to time your hits right. When your the last man back, that's not a good time for a hit. It can cost your big time.
Lastly, if everything goes to hell, just do what real NHL players do. Ice the puck. This will give you a chance to get setup over again if you lose the faceoff or a chance to break out of the zone if you win it.
Hope that helps. Works fairly well for me.

Ever since this new patch, I keep getting the disc is unreadable error. I have to clear the cache each time the error comes up as I'm trying to play.

Same thing happened to me but I've turned it aroundTry gaining the zone through the middle of the ice and don't be afraid to dump it in if you are about to get run over. The less skilled of player the more dumping you should be doing. Use 3-2 forecheck and be really aggressive. Being passive in this game is a death sentence.
That said, the good online players will just be good at defense and tough to get scoring chances against so work on your special teams. Gotta be able to score on the PP against some of these guys.

Ever since I downloaded this patch, I've been playing in some high scoring games. In my dynasty in the second round against the Avs with the Flames, I lost the first game 8-3, and the second game 7-3. Kipper was in net by the way. Even in the first round I would lose games 6-4, 5-3, though I did win one game 7-4.

I've been doing the BAP online and never had any problems with glitch goals or anything then today teams get 2 on 1s go behind the net pass it out and it would go in 100% of the time. We lay down to block it makes it through to the other guy. We block it it goes in off the dman. We played 6 games today and had about 50 goals against. Anyone having this kind of issue?

How do you even get videos uploaded? I have gone through the steps in the game, but then I can never find the video on the website.

An iggy dangle from last night. Not close to some of the nifty goals I can score, but I can only do a long video if I score in the final 20 seconds or so because I only play online. Finally had one somewhat worthy.
