Default NHL 09 1.02 Patch Released on PS3 & Xbox 360

The patch is out on the PS3 as well should be on the Xbox 360 by tonight (March 2nd overnight).

http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread....93498&tstart=0

Here are the release notes contained in the link:

Exploit fixes:

-Prevent players from entering games with attributes that are raised beyond the level they can reach with the card they are entitled to have. Players who have elevated their attributes this way should reset their character by changing the type and reassigning their points.
-Limit the size of human goalies in OTP/EASHL games to 6'4" (NOTE: it will still allow them to be set larger, but the actual height in game will not go above the new limit).
-Fixed some problems that could cause the game to hang or go out of sync when pausing.
- Prevent use of LB to get up instantly after being knocked over.
-Reduce accuracy of shooting while using vision control to skate backwards.
-Prevent high, accurate slap shots from in close to the net.

Other changes:

-Reduced the ease of beating the goalie on the short side.
-Decrease the tendency of the goalies to use a desperation save unnecessarily.
-Strict calling of interference, though you can still clear players directly in front of the net without getting called for interference.
-Added stick lift to Classic controls using LB+X(XBox) /L1+Square(PS3). It is also on R3 (press Right Stick).
-Fixed shot targeting using the Always Up control when skating down ice.
-Added new NHL rule to locate face- offs in the attacking zone to start a powerplay.
- Prevent CPU players from getting delay of game penalties frequently while clearing the puck from their zone.
- Prevent puck from being poke checked away from the goalie when he has it covered under his glove.
-Reduced the amount of time it takes to get control of the last man back, holding RT(Xbox)/R2(PS3)
-Reduced the amount of time it takes to get control of the goalie, holding LB+A(Xbox)/L1+X(PS3)
-Reduce the range of heights on randomly generated CPU players, including goalies.
-Eliminate the ability to accelerate and maintain high speed while stick lifting.
-More penalties for high sticking when stick lifts are done from behind the opponent.
-Made the colours of the OTP/EASHL indicators more distinct (yellow and orange).
-Made face-off outcomes slightly more random and slightly less dependent on attributes.
-Added assistance to prevent one-timer and shot attempts from leading to accidental hits and interference penalties.
-Goalie tuning to increase goal-scoring a bit to compensate for taking away the easy short-side high goals.
-Improve hit stat tracking to not count all of the small bumps in front of the net.
-Increased injuries caused by CPU teams.
-Prevent puck from being launched with very high speed following a hit.
-AI tuning for superstar. The Aggression slider now affects how intense the CPU team is on that difficulty level.

There's points in there that cover basically every problem I have with this game, nice tune-up! Does the XBox patch have similar changes to this?

So does this mean that juicers can still "max out" their stats to the ceiling of whatever archtype of player they are? For example, can a PWF have a maxed out slap shot (not 99, but whatever the ceiling is for having a maxed out slap shot as a PWF,) and max out the rest of their stats to their respective ceilings along with it?

Can any of you PS3 folks verify that? I'm on Xbox 360, so I can't. If it's really just going to be more of the same, but with level-capped stats, then I'll probably just trade in NHL 09 and wait for 10.

When you have the legend card, you are given 25 points to use for each category of ratings. I assume that you can still max out a rating if it can be maxed out within 25 rating. But if you use more then 25 points in a category, the game will prevent you from playing.

Yeah, thats what I was wondering. The way they worded it, it sounded like there was a set ceiling for any of the stats, like you could level every stat up to 25 points (assuming you had your Legend card,) above the default for the archtype.

Otherwise, good!

Cheese goals were bad enough, but Juicers totally spoiled my appetite for playing OTP/League games. Hopefully Microsoft accepts the patch for 360 soon!

Thanks Jobo! I've commented on certain issues (bolded):

-Prevent high, accurate slap shots from in close to the net.
That is very nice to see ... that always irked me.

-Decrease the tendency of the goalies to use a desperation save unnecessarily.
Huge improvement there ... that was one of those things that jumped out on day one as an odd behaviour.

-Strict calling of interference, though you can still clear players directly in front of the net without getting called for interference.
Finally! I had given up all hope on this one.

-Fixed shot targeting using the Always Up control when skating down ice.
Thank you thank you thank you. This one was nothing but perplexing to me. I started a dynasty and had to manually change the camera to "always up" or "always down" depending on whether I was the home or away team.

- Prevent puck from being poke checked away from the goalie when he has it covered under his glove.
Dammit ... this is the only way I can score since I jacked up the difficulty.

-Made the colours of the OTP/EASHL indicators more distinct (yellow and orange).
I can't tell you how many interference calls I've taken thinking I had the puck and going for a slap shot, only to have the guy i was actually controlling level somebody behind the play.

-Added assistance to prevent one-timer and shot attempts from leading to accidental hits and interference penalties.
The last update helped this, but it still wasn't perfect. Hopefully this fixes the issue. I'd still like to see the option to add a modifier button to throw a check. This will do for now though.

I've been very impressed this year with how the team will actually update the game. Great job EA.

nice, although i wish it would create accurate scoring rates for players in Dynasty mode. Some players are getting like 5 points a game...

haha, MY offense? Look at the guy who made this thread, he's never going to score again!!

Seriously though, I love how EA is paying a lot of attention to how the game is played and fixing any problems that arise.

I'm also really happy about the LB after you're hit thing. I've noticed that a lot of people had started to do it, and it was really annoying. A player would be coming at me and I would hit him sending him flying, only to have him instantly pop back up and pick up the puck again.

Sweet, sounds like it addressed all of my issues, even the issue of having two yellow indicators on the same team

I'll be giving it a shot once it's up for Xbox. I haven't played the game for like a month.

games go on much longer now because of the increase in penalties. goons need to adjust their game instead of hitting everything. (im typing this while i sit in the box for interference)
