Does it matter for people in real life? Like do you care if your office is brand new or if your office is 20 years old? Does it matter that you work in one of the older skyscrapers in west downtown compared to the Bow building or Brookefield?
Have people made work decisions in their lives based purely on the age of the building?
|
Exactly. It's about the people and organization not the building. Fans can't see past the shinny building but coaches certainly can and will.

I get the same feeling and it’s so depressing, yet so utterly familiar as a fan of this franchise.

Yes. The building and the office space you work in makes a huge difference. This is why top companies spend a lot of money on design and planning of their space. Top companies compete for top talent and financial compensation is only one aspect of trying to sell your company to candidates. Often times, companies pay the same salaries, so its the other factors that can make or break attracting top talent. I spend almost as much time at work as I do at home; why wouldnt I want to work in a modern building with modern amenities?

It may be a factor. But if we're talking about a coach making a decision between Calgary or Edmonton, which we are then there is a good deal to consider before you concern yourself with the carpets and drapes. We have an entire thread dedicated to that.

Edmonton is certainly a circus at times, but lets not act like the Flames organization is some shiny model of high standard in the league. The Flames have had issues with execs meddling in hockey ops (ken king), employ a very opinionated Brian Burke and an ownership group that has set the standard of mediocrity throughout.
Like I said before, it isn't the deciding factor. Organizational structure and value plays a much bigger role in any potential coaches decisions, but the arena does play a factor (how large or how small none of us know). Having the opportunity to work with a generational talent in McDavid is the main reason why I see AV going to Edmonton over Calgary, if both opps become available.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I would assume most coaches look to the people directly above them to see whether or not they can work within that structure.
So, yeah....

I dont think I can take another year of this.
This was the least I have cared about the Calgary Flames that I can remember and we signed Jaromir Jagr and had calgaryboy come to town.
I mean....the stars are aligning here and still....

And Calgary managed to turn the whole Jagr thing into a complete fiasco. such a sad way to see a guy of his calibre and status leave the NHL, and he'll forever linked to the Calgary Flames organization for such.

If you were to hire a team to go into a franchise and decimate it from the inside, you couldn't have done a better job than this team of coaches this year.

Another year of GG will pretty much cement my Flames GAF level to that of the Stampeders - as in IDGAF. I didn't even watch the last 10 games this year, and I'm not tuning in next year to see more of GG's backward passes and Brouwerplays.

When AV signs elsewhere it won’t matter if Tre offered him $10m a season, there’s gonna be a meltdown. Sounds like some people are out for blood and nothing is gonna change that.

For the people mentioning that AV likes to play vets, and can be stubborn with his player utilization...
Virtually every coach favours vets (more than fans do). And every fan is going to be unhappy with some player usage because we all have different players that we like and others that we don't.
That is part of being a fan.
There is a HUGE difference between that and the coaching staff completely losing control of the team, and making a mess of the roster, and fans not being able to reconcile anything that is going on.
Also, winning is better than not winning.
We need a coaching change, and AV is an acceptable choice IMO.

Just GG blood, and his cohorts. Let us have them and we won’t burn down your village.

Every team has vets. Stajan will be gone. Versteeg probably isn't back. We'll see on Brouwer.
Are you worried about Backlund? Frolik? Giordano?
Brodie and Hamonic are vets. Gaudreau will be a 25 year old vet next year.
I have no idea what your point is.

Jagr has never said a single bad word about his treatment by the Flames. He came to camp not ready and got injured and it snowballed. Flames worked with him to rehabilitate and it didn’t work.
This is from yesterday and it doesn’t sound like a man with a grudge. He is still injured back home.

I am not happy with GG and the players but lets not make stuff up to support a narrative.

The knock against AV is that he favours vets.
My point is that this team mostly vets now (the core at least)
Therefore how is that a problem?
