I don’t like that Bennett was scratched and that his value is deteriorating but the agent got this ball rolling.
He has no obligation to comment just because the media asks. In fact, his first obligation is to not comment until he clears it with his client; that’s suppose to be how these relationships work. So did he clear it first, then approach Friedman to induce a question so he can make a comment?

Not necessarily - each player/agent relationship is different, but a few things are generally true:
- the relationship is built on implicit trust
- the player trusts the agent to act & advise in their best interest, even if sometimes that means doing it in a way the player may not love, or telling them something they don't want to hear.
One can presume that Bennet's top priorities are some order/weighting of:
- life/family happiness
- being the best hockey player he can be
- financial security
- being a good teammate
- loyalty to an organization/management
This is a critical crossroads in his career. Playing out the season as a plug in the hopes of boosting his value with more playoff magic is probably the worst possible path for him...it's not even guaranteed this team makes the playoffs.

In my opinion agents like Ferris *should* be embarrassed if they use the media instead of meeting management straight up behind closed doors.
In my opinion, Ward's odd decisions adding fuel to the story show a lack of understanding and poor judgement, which makes Treliving look bad too. (I haven't heard from Tre on any of this)
Obviously it would be far-fetched to say the organization has it's tail between its legs because Ryan is injured and Sam is gonna play two days after the Flames made him stand in the corner.

Bennett may well be. But it's also in his best interest.
Ferris [probably has nothing to be embarassed about. It strains credulity to imagine that Tre & co. didn't know exactly where Bennett's thoughts are. No different than any other pending UFA or RFA.
Ferris may have done the Flames a favour. It's an ugly trade market right now...more exposure/interest is probably better than not.
