I agree. Bennett (Darren Ferris) created drama letting this out to reporters without talking to the team. That too is total bush league and everything I read on Ferris suggests that is how he operates. Is it a coincidence that Victor Mete is in a similar (public) situation?
I am a biased fan, but does anyone really see Bennett as someone looking for this attention? He has always been low profile.

No, it is not a coincidence that during/(or before) a game between the Canadiens and the Flames, Elliott Friedman (in his own words) reached out to Darren Ferris and asked about the satisfaction level of players who would be playing (or sitting in the press box) during that game, who he represents, who both obviously need a change of scenery.
The agent didn't reach out to Friedman nor did he go on a twitter diatribe.
So much context keeps getting omitted.

The full 8 min pre game interview (Feb 1) is on the Flames website. First 3 mins are other topics.
Then the Bennett question from Wes Gilbertson was "did/will you discuss with Sam that the situation won't be a distraction". The first half of his answer was a perfect and professional response. Then he goes a different direction all on his own.
There was nothing asked about playing Sam at centre/wing or anything like that. Ward put that out there to ward off any criticism of his deployment of Bennett.
Seems defensive and insecure from the Head Coach. If nothing else this feeds a media story and thus increases the noise surrounding the team.
Then the healthy scratch and separation from the regular group sending s the media in a complete tailspin and creates all kinds of drama.

I honestly think the drama is just on here

Maybe let's not omit the fact that Ferris knew damn well he hadn't contacted Treliving about the issue and that he's creating a s--- storm by giving Friedman the juicy goods before management.
Unless you think management is lying and thus creating more controversy?
Either way it is a complete gongshow

The agent could say nothing.
When you say your player needs a change, you’ve disadvantaged the team.
Now opposing GMs know the player wants out.
I don’t like that Bennett was scratched and that his value is deteriorating but the agent got this ball rolling.
He has no obligation to comment just because the media asks. In fact, his first obligation is to not comment until he clears it with his client; that’s suppose to be how these relationships work. So did he clear it first, then approach Friedman to induce a question so he can make a comment?

No, it's all over the nhl news cycle in other Canadian markets. It's almost embarrassing.
I don't have high expectations of player agents, but I expect the organization to handle it better.
To me it's another example of how Ward makes very odd choices in high pressure situations.

Ye old Eklund has the Flames and Leafs in "2nd phase" talks over Sam Bennett.
If I'm the Flames I'm chasing Yegor Korshkov, Liljigren, Der-Argunsitev. With some salary coming back.

No it’s not. There’s more drama here than anywhere. I don’t think anyone in Carolina or Florida cares about this story at all.

Sorry if this sounds disrespectful, but how is your reply even an argument?
Of course there is more drama here than anywhere. It's a Flames Message Board and the thread is clearly about the Sam Bennett and the repercussions coming out of the Healthy Scratch.
Carolina and Florida don't care? Give me a break with that argument.
I can't speak for other posters, but I am not littering other threads with this topic.
It's gonna take a few days for this topic to run its course, but people who want to drive by and insult people that are discussing it just make the thread worse intentionally.

This has happened more than once so I am sure management is annoyed. This isn't the first time Sam asked for more ice time and his agent spoke up. This is likely why we are seeing some push back.
If Sam is not happy with his ice time he has to either express it in a big way to the coach, or show some strong healthy disappointment and step up on the ice. Everyone was very happy with Sam Bennett's playoff performance so where is that effort now?? If h wants ice-time he has to get mad take the reins and show some leadership. It is all there he has to take unintuitive.
Not a big fan of Wards handling of the situation. He gave Sam options but those were limited options, when Sam probably thought he would be rewarded more ice time after his playoff performance.

They don’t even care about hockey.

I haven’t insulted anybody. I’m just saying this story isn’t embarrassing. Stuff like this happens quite often in hockey. Of course it will hit closer to home for us Flames fans but I doubt anyone outside of Calgary or this site is really dissecting it or thinking about it too much.

I'll bet Bennett is a bit embarrassed about how this has played out.
In my opinion agents like Ferris *should* be embarrassed if they use the media instead of meeting management straight up behind closed doors.
In my opinion, Ward's odd decisions adding fuel to the story show a lack of understanding and poor judgement, which makes Treliving look bad too. (I haven't heard from Tre on any of this)
Obviously it would be far-fetched to say the organization has it's tail between its legs because Ryan is injured and Sam is gonna play two days after the Flames made him stand in the corner.
