Indeed. Time will tell if this draft I'd as deep as 2003. But if it is players like Parise were going later in the first. Anaheim had two mid/late first rounder. They converted those to Getzlaf and Perry and won a cup two seasons later.

I am not saying it is as deep, or that we will win a cup in a couple of seasons, but the Flames have to take advantage of three picks in the first round of a deep draft.

Right now we're 7th, If we lose the last game and these other teams can pickup a win then we mov to 4th. Not happening imo.

Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Nurse, Monahan and Lindholm. Will take one of them.
Nashville could look to spoil CBJ chance at the playoffs..HOPE

Edmonton...same thing with Minny..will probably lose ... NO HOPE

Carolina could be facing a Pitts team resting their stars.. the rest of them..HOPE

Lindholm it is!

After all that we have just seen, and with the Flames I don't know why we would dismiss it. I think it is looking like we draft in 7th which already takes care of your first unlikelihood.

The mathematical fact is that it is possible, however improbable or unlikely.

There is entirely a chance that it happens.

We could also win the draft lottery.

I wrote my signature when we were at our lowest and I feared the worst; now I would be happy to get it.

It is a deep draft, however if the team is targeting a true franchise, number one center and they end in the 8th spot, they could move up to ensure they get one of the.elite centers.

Lots of possibilities on draft day including a trade. Out of my mind would be me giving scenarios where the Flames win the lottery.

If we lose the lottery, I am taking solace in the fact that if we are shooting for a franchise forward, the top half of the first round in 2003's draft has yet to have a player with more than one ppg season. The bottom half has three: Parise @ 17th, Getzlaf @ 19th, and Richards @ 24th. Also, Perry @ 28th won the Rocket Richard.

Oh well! Drafting is still uncertain, and we still have 3 picks in the first round!

I don't disagree with the spirit of your post, but Eric Staal has 3 PPG seasons (although 2 of those are exactly 1 PPG), and will finish over PPG this year as well.

Vanek looking at putting up his second PPG season this year as well, although some may discredit that due to the shortened season.

That means the Oilers are due right?

Kevin Gibson@TSNResearch1m

Wild looking to clinch a playoff spot tonight. 19-1-0 past 20 at home vs EDM

Wow, that looks very similar to the Flames record when playing against the Ducks in Anaheim... Doesn't look good for their chances to pull out a win tonight. Hopefully they do it anyway. Otherwise they need to beat the Canucks tomorrow at home.

Having been actively cheering on Oiler wins for the past 2 weeks, I now feel the pain Oiler fans go through. That team is god awful. As bad as the Flames have ever been lately and even through the Young Gun days, I don't remember having this little faith in any team pulling off a win as I do with the Oilers.

To improve the Blues pick

Toronto beats Montreal to give the Leafs 59 pts
San Jose beats LA in OT/SO to give the Sharks 59 pts, and the Kings 58 pts with 24 ROW
Blues lose to the Blackhawks in regulation - Blues finish with 58 pts and 23 ROW

They seem to have checked out physically, emotionally & mentally. Totally unacceptable, no effort. If they lose fine, but show some fight or push back, show some pride as a professional.

Except we are probably looking at a Penguins/Blues final and someone above us winning the lottery.....

....just being a smart arse, I am actually pretty excited about this off season, of course I'm an easy mark.

I didn't say it is impossible we drop to 8. I just said it is unlikely.

There is a 12.3% chance a team 8 through 14 wins the lottery. Plus there is still a chance we move up to anywhere from 4 to 7. Plus, chances are that someone drafts Nischushkin, Zadarov, Domi or someone like that in the top 7 leaving one of those 7 players available to us at 8th.

When you combine all that the chances of the Flames not having access to one of Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Nurse, Monahan, or Lindholm it is very remote.

Please please Edmonton win a game. I'm not comfortable sitting 7th.

We could see:
1. Florida: McKinnon/Jones
2. Colorado: McKinnon/Jones
3. Tampa: Drouin
4. Nashville: Barkov
5. Edmonton: Lindholm
6. Carolina: Monohan
7. Calgary: If Edm/Car take Lindholm/Monohan we're left only with a choice between Nurse and Nichushkin. Drop to 8th due to the lottery and the choice is made for us.

If Edmonton wins and Calgary loses than it's guaranteed the Flames pick lower than the Oilers.

If everything happens perfectly, the Flames could pick 3rd or 4th. (not sure how tie breaker works with TB)

However,
Carolina plays Pittsburgh
Tampa Bay plays Florida
Nashville plays a hungry CBJ

They would pick higher wouldn't they? They will finish lower in the standings.
