It is incredible that TB has a +2 goal differential. How is that team as low in the standings as they are...

Another big night for the "Drive for 30th"
NY Islanders vs Philadelphia
Ottawa vs Washington
NY Rangers vs Carolina
Tampa Bay vs Boston
Pittsburgh vs New Jersey
Toronto vs Florida
Nashville vs Detroit
Montréal vs Winnipeg
Calgary vs St. Louis
Columbus vs Dallas
Anaheim vs Vancouver
If the BOLD teams win it will help improve the Flames first round pick.
If the ITALIC teams win it will help improve the Blues first round pick.

As long as we get a loss tonight we lock up 7th place. That gets us one of the players we want. I don't think their is much difference between 5 through 7 other than you get the choice of your guy rather than the leftover guy but I'm not sure if scouts can do better than a coin flip on guys who are ranked close.

Florida can't catch up to the Flames so a win from them doesn't help, only hurts the Blues pick.

That's true. I bolded Florida out of habit but with them no longer being reachable there is no point to track them. Good thing they are so good at tanking, the Leafs will have to work hard to get above the Blues in the standings.
That's the closest I have ever come to "cheering" for the leafs.

I wonder if they might be in a similar position to EDM, whereby their pick is in play for some immediate help???

I've harped on it a few times in this thread, it's as close to pure bad luck as exists in hockey: a catastrophically bad record in one-goal games. They have like a .250 winning percentage in one-goal games. The last place team in the NHL usually finishes slightly better than .333 in close games.
We're close to .600 this year: 9-8. If TB had our luck in one-goal games they'd be a playoff team.

I saw it posted in a thread last week, but Tampa Bay are like 5-16 in one goal games this year. So basically when they win they win big, and when they lose (and they do lose a lot) they often lose close games.
Edit: Yeah... what he said ^

It's going to be amazing when they end up with 2 points from the last 25% of the season. Nice work Edmonton Something Specials

Carolina got a point. I'm not even sure what the tiebreaker is. We have the same ROW and the same GP...

Carolina picks up a point just need one more to pass us. Tampa can no longer pass us.

Dont we have 19 row and they have 18. The tie break is goal differential.

I think carolina holds the tiebreaker actually. They have the same ROW, Same GP, and we didn't play eachother, so it's goal differential
so as long as the flames lose by more than 2, the flames drop a spot.
EDIT: GGG is right. I read wins as ROW. My bad.

If Tampa wins one more and we lose the rest, they are tied with us and goal differential gives them the advantage, no?
edit: nm, shootout wins are the tiebreaker I take it

Teams that no longer can pass us: Florida, Colorado, Tampa Bay
Potntial:
Nashville (@ CBJ), 1 point behind, doesn't look good
Edmonton (@ Min, vs Van) 1 point behind, they suck
Carolina (@ Pit) Ties, we hold tie-breaker, not good
Right now we're 7th, If we lose the last game and these other teams can pickup a win then we mov to 4th. Not happening imo.
Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Nurse, Monahan and Lindholm. Will take one of them.

I'd be happy landing in 5th Guaranteeing one of Lindholm/Monahan or even Barkov if someone goes away from the TSN list.
