Alright! Nice to come home to see the boys with the W! Last time I was able to check in, it was 2-2! Way to go, Flames!

Hanifin and Tanev increasing their trade value tonight. Lindholm, not so much.

Honeslty I was right in front of it in section 114 and thought it was a hand pass live. It hits Backlund after he gloves but by the new rules that doesn't matter if it deflects off a player, they have to play it to deem it not a handpass (I think the old rule was shared here before).
Quote:
A player shall be permitted to stop or “bat” a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the on-ice officials, he has directed the puck to a teammate, or has allowed his team to gain an advantage, and subsequently possession and control of the puck is obtained by a player of the offending team, either directly or deflected off any player or official.
|
So it deflecting off of Backlund wouldn't negate him playing it with his hand, they clarified that in the rulebook.
Now the Nashville goal shouldn't t have counted last week either but I think they did get it right.

Keep cheering for Hubey, he's starting to get it turned around. 3 more goals by the backend tonight, and Weegar is starting to put up some offence now.

This is the hockey Canada rule:
Play will be stopped but a Minor penalty will NOT be assessed for a player who commits a “hand pass” violation.
A hand pass occurs when a player stops, knocks down, or pushes the puck with their open hand, thereby directing the puck to a teammate in the neutral or attacking zone. This includes where the puck deflects off any person or object prior to the teammate gaining possession and control of the puck.
No goal may be scored as a result of a hand pass.

More time for our actually good top 4 d men and sheltering the other 2.
And look what happens. Goals from Weegar, Hanifin and Tanev.

I'll give a ton of credit to Zary tonight.
His 3 highlight reel plays in the first period really got the crowd into the game, and then that energy really carried through the rest of the game.

With a game in hand too. I bet Zadorov will do something stupid trying to show up his old team costing them a goal.

He's the one guy I'd re-sign
This team doesn't have a lot of money tied up in dmen, and they don't really have any high end prospects. He's still young enough thaf he's going to be effective for most of the contract too.
No issues at all if they were to sign him.

One benefit of trading Zadorov early is that the team should be able to get a good look at Solovyov and hopefully Poirier before the deadline. If either of those two look like they can step into a top 4 role, then that will give management some measure of confidence to move Hanifin and Tanev and go into next season with only Weegar and Andersson signed as veteran defencemen.
If it is clear that neither or both of them are ready and the team is playing well, then maybe they circle back with those two D men for contract extensions and focus on getting value for Lindholm before he bolts.

Markstrom with a .813 save% that doesn’t do him justice at all. No chance on the two goals, and a penalty shot is a tough proposition. He saved the game at the end.

Watching Zary close up handling puck at the game was a real treat.
