Robertson is one of those players who looks unassuming at times but can do elite stuff when he gets the puck in the right spots

Well deserved game. Dallas and refs can suck it.

My stream cut out (again!) during the hand pass review but if it touched Backlund's body before Huberdeau picked it up would take off the hand pass. Ridiculous call, if that was the case.

Yeah, I really didn't notice a big difference in our third pairing with big Z gone.

GOAT!

I wanna see a side by side gif of the handpass against us from behind the net the other day and this one tonight. I know there was a change of possession in the first one, but someone put that gif together and then we can all try and figure out which one had the most impact on the resulting goal.

Even if it didn't, apparently the rule is you have to be intentionally sending the puck to a teammate for it to be considered a hand pass.
No one even knew where the puck was after Backlund batted it.

The determination of this group is overpowering many good teams late in games and it’s so exciting to watch! Weegar is proving to be a game breaking stud and is being rewarded for putting pucks on net instead of passively waiting for a ‘perfect’ play to develop. Up next: beat big Z on his new team Saturday!

The Forsberg one? I think he was trying to set himself up to bat it in from back there and then Weegar played it.

Hand pass. Come on. Yet a player can throw the puck from behind our net, bounce off our players stick and they can now score with no repercussions.
The NHL has dumb rules and dumber refs
|
This.
Why can't they watch the Nashville play and think, "holy ####, you can't throw the puck from behind the net to the front of the net, no goal." and conversely, "holy ####, the puck clear rolled down his arm to the ice with zero intent to play it with his hand, good goal?". Like this isn't that difficult.
It's mind boggling.

Which would make it inconclusive if they couldn't see the puck the whole time. Frustrating.

So if Backlund had intentionally hit the puck with his leg, like a soccer style play, then it wouldnt have been a hand pass?

Nobody knows anymore. They just make it up game to game.

Video review should only ever be used to determine if the puck crossed the line. That’s it.
Can’t even get excited about a goal anymore because what if your team went offside 30 seconds ago?
Brutal stuff. Ruins the entertainment value. Integrity of the game be damned, we got along just fine without it for years.
|
I don't remember a single time that I was mad when an opposing team scored because they were offside. It's just such nitpicky bs. Now everytime after a goal they zoom in on the opposing coach and we get to figure out whether we should actually be happy or just hold our breath for a replay based on millimeters. I don’t care, stop reviewing offside and just don't show that part of the replay on TV it will make the game a lot more enjoyable.

It's fun to watch this team play hockey again. Didn't think I'd be saying that this year during that loss streak.

Stolen from Hockeyanswered.com:
79.1 Hand Pass – A player shall be permitted to stop or “bat” a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the Referee, he has directed the puck to a teammate.
A player shall be permitted to catch the puck out of the air but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. If he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent, a minor penalty shall be assessed for “closing his hand on the puck” under Rule 67 – Handling Puck.
So NHL, did his hand direct the puck to his teammate or did it hit his leg on the way down and bounce to his teammate?
Or did they determine that Backlund has another hand on his thigh that the rest of us can't see and that hand directed it to Huberdeau?
