Good goalies make hard saves look easy. Markstrom makes every shot look like a snipe because he can't play his angles properly.

I don't care what the advanced metrics say. I'm talking about this game and this game alone.
None of the goals he let in were bad goals. The first one was a deflection and the last two were good shots. Atleast the second goal on Martin was bad. Markstrom made some big saves in the third that helped get the game to OT.

I know it's hignsight but not signing him and trading him at the deadline was the move.
This team is done for years.

Huberdeau is probably one of, if not the most unmovable players in the league right now.

Flames are 7 points and have 7 teams between them and a bottom 5 spot.
So unless they miss the playoffs and get extremely lucky and win a lottery, you just lost $100.
0.5% chance they fall down the standings that much.

We simply aren’t skilled enough in an era where skill rules the game.
|
People are hoping a repeat of the Kings where you sneak into eight and then go on a run. Of course we don’t have a Kopitar, Doughty or Quick but don’t let that get in the way of a good narrative. My biggest issue with this (other than this really just doesn’t happen enough to bank on it) is I get no sign here that the team has bought into Sutter.

Unquestionably true. But being the biggest underachievers in the nhl this year provides little solace.

Not sure why you wouldn’t start auditioning Zary and Pelletier if there’s a way to cycle them through the lineup.
Not sure what you have to lose at this point.

“Lost” $100. You say that like they’re not totally gonna Welch on that bet to “charity”.

So what you’re saying is you’ll stay optimistic despite the evidence showing we’re not good? I’m genuinely curious how you can REALISTICALLY be optimistic. What are the signs that we can be good?

We have talent but the mix of forwards feels off. Too many players that are more likely to miss the net than score a timely goal.

For years? I love this place.
Not even 30 games in, waking up a point out of a playoff spot tomorrow morning and they're "done for years".

Yep. Hard to win when your top guys aren't scoring.
The answers have to come from within that locker room.

The optimist's case is Hubredeau finding chemistry with someone and a legitimate first line pops out of no where. In that case the team's strengths (center and defensive depth) will make them a very competitive team. Right now you're really relying on two lines to score 5 on 5 and hoping that Hubredeau contributes on the powerplay.

It’s almost as if he’s predicting our future. Almost as if he knows who will be signed for the next few years with large cap hits. Like contracts or something.

The sad thing is I’m really worried about our future, both short term and long.
Those contracts Tre signed are unconscionable. See Blacks Law Dictionary.
