True. I am assuming that Monahan is ready. If not, then I guess there is no big need to trade Cammy right now as he will plan center and we will have room for another forward (guess that's where Raymond will slot in).

Is it just me, or does it feel like we are bringing in another Blake Comeau ?

Blech, hope this news isn't true. Macey is not a good player. Great wheels, yes, but he's soft, gets knocked on his ass constantly, is wildly inconsistent, and only plays well against the Flames. New whipping boy, guaranteed.
4/10 would not bang sign.

So whats the rumored amount if the Flames sign Raymond 3.25-3.5m per 3-4 years.

If my last name is Glencross, I would be floored if Raymond gets 3.5 mil a year.

Scary part of this rumoured signing (and the Galliardi): some of the posters on Oilfans are praising Feaster for his approach. Not sure what to think of that

If he is signed I hope it's for a 'reclamation' contract. 1 or 2 years for a couple million or less. I would not be happy with 3 years at 3-4 mil for a guy like Raymond. But that is probably what he gets in a market like this.

But if Feaster's got a deal in principle to make a 2 or 3 for 1/picks move, then I suppose it's a decent pickup. This is a roster that needs space for youngsters, as they should be the #1 focus from this point on.
Perhaps though Feaster wants to fill the defense ranks with kids like Wotherspoon, Breen or Cundari. I've just found it odd that he's put all this emphasis on making the forward lines tougher and faster when our D could use the same treatment.
|
While I agree with everything you say here, fact is 3-4 defencemen are much thinner on the ground than 3rd and 4th line forwards. It's gonna take a lot more (in assets or cap space) to fill that position than what it cost to bulk up the forward ranks.

I don't think I've made this any secret, but I see Horak as more of a long term answer then Baertschi. He's got tons of potential, more durability then Baertschi and impressing the Flames management with keeping a good attitude about his position with the Flames and doing what they ask to get better.
As for the warm body to move back and forth, he's only got one year left as that. He's an RFA after this year and I believe would lose that free waiver status after the next contract. I can't see why his next contract wouldn't be rather cheap as well and it makes him a cheap, defensively minded centre that the Flames can mould into whatever they want. I would love to keep a player like that on the team. Maybe develop a player like this for once instead of trading them and watching their career take off elsewhere and wondering why we did that again.

At this rate, LW'ers on this team will have to play RW, C, D and G too.

How exactly are you determining which player is more durable at this point? Hardly close to enough sample size with Sven at the pro level to even have a clue about this yet.

If your last name is Glencross you also shovel horse manure for fun in the offseason. Different players, different people, different priorities.

Do people forget that Galiardi can play RW as well. Cammy won't be on the team

He scored 10 goals. Something only 4 players on our team managed to do last year. Based on that he should fit in just well

Usually, if you're a winger, you can play both LW and RW, although certain game situations can dictate which wing you play (based on which way you shoot, etc.)... Everyone's freaking out about so many LW's, but really, most of these guys are probably just as good at RW.
Relax.

That's actually most of my point. In 2 years, Sven has missed good chunks of time wth the WJC Team, Abbotsford and Calgary due to injury. He's had a Concussion (almost entire tournament), Hip Injury (11 games), Neck Injury (5 weeks, 13 games).
Horak, in the same two years, has missed 2 games with a groin pull in Abbotsford and one game with an undisclosed injury with the Flames.

I like Raymond, its worth taking a chance on him at the right price. He does remind me a bit of a Matthew Lombardi however, one of those guys you see some great speeed and skill but you wonder if they'll ever put it all together to be a real effective top 6 player.

Think a lot of Flames fans saw this coming. The guy practices in Calgary, and not too many teams really care for the guy. Flames are just stocking up on fillers. We can also count on him scoring vs the Kings every time while playing against Regher.
