Things are moving too fast.... Galiardi ...... yikes signing Raymond would be as bad a deal as signing Sarich to a 2 year deal last and Babchuck the year before..... but at least that sort of fit with plan...
Maybe the Flames are just pumping his tires so some other team will overspend???!!!

Ugh thinking about this more I hate this move if true.
Raymond plays with 0 heart. Doesn't do anything other than skate at the NHL level. Please don't be true. We don't need players like him we need defensive forwards who care.

It's not like either scenario puts our team over the top, but at least in this case we gain assets.

Baertschi and Horak are long term answers that will have to get shunted aside Is Raymond?

I'd be happy if it was a 1 or 2 year deal.
If he can be a 3rd liner that PKs and maybe reaches 35 points, I'll be okay.

I just don't see a fit for him here with who we currently have under contract. A soft skilled 2nd or 3rd line LW is not who the Flames should be targeting on the free agent market.

The only question that Horak is the long-term answer to is: Who's a warm body with a cheap contract we can move easily between Abbotsford and Calgary?

Maybe the Flames are packaging up guys like Backlund, Baertschi etc for Seguin and guys like Raymond are to fill in for depth...

I used to really like him ignoring the fact that he stunk like Canuck, and wished he was a Flame. But, when I thought he was going to keep getting better, he regressed. It's like he has been in decline for years. Now that he may become a Flame, I hope it was all because of being depressed from being surrounded by a bunch of diving wankers, and he could actually be vary good again.

Why can't we just play the young guys that we have already. If they do well, great. If not, we get another top pick in 2014. We have gritty players already, no need for Raymond who only skates. Slotting in a vet or two for every line is good enough for me. Then roll all four lines without a bonafied top line.
Hudler-Backlund-Baertchi
Glencross-Knight-Jones
Stempniak-Stajan-Horak
Galiardi-Monahan-Bouma
Jackman/McGratton - pressbox guys
Cammy - trade
Raymond - we don't sign
I know I missed others.

at worst he's an average 3rd liner who is a great pk'er but there's a chance that a 20-25 goal scorer is still in there
if it's between 2-3m I think it's a no risk deal for a team in the Flames case
|
He made 2.275M on his last contract, so it's highly unlikely his next contract falls in your prescribed range.

Very fast, pretty solid defensively (at least in the neutral zone)... terrible in the playoffs.

If Monahan isn't ready for 1st or 2nd line, there is no need to burn a year of his ELC.

What we really, really need is a legitimate top 4 defenseman who is defensively reliable to play on the second pairing with Wideman. Also to make sure Butler stays on the bottom pairing where he needs to be. We need this much more than another winger. But if Feaster's got a deal in principle to make a 2 or 3 for 1/picks move, then I suppose it's a decent pickup. This is a roster that needs space for youngsters, as they should be the #1 focus from this point on.
Perhaps though Feaster wants to fill the defense ranks with kids like Wotherspoon, Breen or Cundari. I've just found it odd that he's put all this emphasis on making the forward lines tougher and faster when our D could use the same treatment.

His last contract was a decrease from his previous one that had an AAV of $2.55M. I could definitely see this contract falling in the $2-3M range.

I actually thought Raymond had an OK playoffs this year.
But that's compared to the rest of the players on Vancouver.
